Resource Assessment Reports

The Gascoyne Demersal Scalefish Resource (GDSR) comprises over 80 species inhabiting inshore (20-250 m deep) and offshore ( > 250 m deep) waters in the Gascoyne Coast Bioregion (GCB; south of Onslow to north of Kalbarri). The GDSR is primarily targeted by commercial, charter and recreational boat-based line fishers. Snapper and Goldband Snapper are the indicator species selected for monitoring and assessing the status of the inshore suite of the GDSR, while Ruby Snapper and Greybanded Grouper are the indicators for the offshore suite.

Periodic assessments of GDSR indicator species demonstrated that historical fishing of Snapper led to stocks being below …

The West Coast Demersal Scalefish Resource (WCDSR) comprises over 100 species inhabiting inshore (20-250 m deep) and offshore ( > 250 m deep) waters of the West Coast Bioregion (WCB; north of Kalbarri to east of Augusta). The WCDSR is primarily targeted by commercial, charter and recreational boat-based line fishers, including the commercial West Coast Demersal Scalefish (Interim) Managed Fishery (WCDSIMF). Indicator species selected for monitoring and assessing the status of the inshore suite of the WCDSR include Snapper, WA Dhufish and Baldchin Groper, while indicators for the offshore suite include Hapuku, Bass Groper and Blue-eye Trevalla.

Law & Economics Working Papers

Financial crises have occurred around the world for over two centuries. These crises have been so costly and frequent that one wonders why governments cannot prevent them from recurring despite repeated, wide-ranging attempts at legislation, regulation, supervision, and enforcement.

In this article, we argue that lawmakers repeatedly act in two ways that may appear to be intuitive but are actually detrimental to system-wide stability. First, lawmakers fail to understand that “banks”—both traditional banks and shadow banks—produce runnable short-term debt, unlike other firms in the economy. To produce short-term debt, banks operate with opacity. Yet a regulatory framework based on secrecy …

A 73-year-old woman with a remote history of successfully treated primary hyperparathyroidism was referred to our office because of multiple skeletal fractures and proximal muscle weakness. Prior laboratory evaluation demonstrated hypocalcemia, vitamin D deficiency, elevated PTH, and elevated alkaline phosphatase. Updated evaluation in our clinic additionally showed hypophosphatemia prompting measurement of serum fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23). FGF23 proved to be markedly elevated prompting consideration of tumor-induced osteomalacia. Positron emission tomography with Cu-64 oxodotreotide revealed an enhancing focus in the left thoracic spine that was confirmed on magnetic resonance imaging to be a 1.5-cm extradural mass. Since Dobbs, advocacy for reproductive justice in the United States has increasingly focused on the “virtuous victims” of state abortion bans—women who wanted to give birth but suddenly required emergency abortion care to preserve their lives or health. These cases now play a prominent role in strategic litigation but may inadvertently promote stereotypical views of women’s role in society. The political fallout may also lead Republicans to propose compromise legislation, with a wider range of compassionate exceptions but increased restrictions on abortion pills. This could have devastating impacts on women who are currently obtaining abortion pills for self-managed abortions. The …

This article explores various understandings of anti-discrimination law and how different national apex courts, regional human rights tribunals and international human rights treaty bodies have applied them in abortion decisions, particularly in the Global South. Recent jurisprudential and theoretical innovations in anti-discrimination law range from direct discriminatory treatment against individuals to indirect discrimination resulting in disparate impact on groups to systemic forms of discrimination that address underlying gender hierarchies and prejudicial constructions of women, girls and pregnant persons. The increasing digitalisation of the tourism industry has introduced new expectations for workforce competencies, particularly in developing economies like Malaysia. The present study investigates how three core digital competencies, i.e. digital literacy, platform/tool awareness, and technology readiness, influence employability readiness among two key groups including final-year tourism students and in-service professionals. Drawing on Human Capital Theory and the Technology Readiness Index, the research applies Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) to examine 350 responses collected through purposive sampling. Uncertainty now defines professional and personal life, particularly for Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X. Despite being highly educated and digitally connected, these generations face growing decision paralysis, burnout, and confidence gaps when navigating careers. HSBC’s Seizing Uncertainty (2024) reports that over half of younger professionals regret missed opportunities, while Gen X struggles to adapt to new realities and lead younger teams. Traditional feedback models—hierarchical, infrequent, and retrospective—no longer meet the demands of today’s fast-changing workplace. Elenis give businesses open to the public a constitutional right to refuse to provide expressive services for interracial couples’ weddings, interfaith couples’ weddings, or for couples’ weddings in which one or both partners are disabled? Raimondo, the case that overturned Chevron deference. First, what did Loper Bright change about review of agency action? Second, how should lower courts implement the decision? This Article engages in a first-of-its-kind, exhaustive review of the major circuit court decisions citing Loper Bright and analyzes how influential judges, scholars, and justices have characterized the impact of the decision. On December 23, 2024, President Joseph R. Biden signed into law the Stop Campus Hazing Act (the “SCHA”). The SCHA amends the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, 20 U.S.C. § 1092(f), a subsection of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (the “Clery Act”). The SCHA defines “hazing” and “student organization,” expands the current Annual Security Reporting requirements, calls for a new form of reporting, and requires policies relating to hazing. It also requires each covered institution of higher education to publish a policy statement regarding hazing awareness and prevention programs that includes a …

Asylum eligibility requires applicants to satisfy a three-pronged set of requirements in order to be granted admission into the United States. In a July 2024 decision, the Second Circuit court issued a decision that challenged a line of precedent established by the Fourth Circuit—specifically examining whether death threats rise to the persecution threshold set by the Immigration and Nationality Act (“INA”). The Second Circuit now holds that the receipt of death threats alone is insufficient to establish persecution, thereby making alien petitioners who have received such threats ineligible for asylum or related forms of relief from removal. The Communications Decency Act (“CDA”), enacted in 1996, was designed to support the rapid growth of the Internet, advancing access to political information, educational resources, culture, entertainment, and news. However, Section 230 of the CDA includes a key provision that grants nearly absolute immunity to online platforms such as Facebook, X, and TikTok.
