Canada has exhibited lower productivity growth since 1990, resulting in substantially reduced gains in citizens’ standards of living despite the importance of sustainable productivity to economic prosperity. Understanding the primary factors that influence productivity growth is a critical concern for Canadian government leaders, as it is a key indicator of the nation’s economic vitality, competitiveness, and citizens’ quality of life. Menstrual cycle tracking apps and their accompanying wearables, collectively known as FemTech, promise women health insights in a healthcare system that often fails to treat problems that primarily affect women. FemTech lets users map their cycles, recognize symptoms, experience non-hormonal birth control, and contribute to long-overdue research on conditions like endometriosis, PCOS, and perimenopause. But after Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, the same datasets that empower users have also become valuable in criminalizing abortion-related crimes. Because most FemTech privacy policies fall outside HIPAA, intimate logs of bleeding, sex, mood, and biometric signals can now be criminal evidence in …

The Algorithmic Collusion Problem: A Judicial Framework For Analyzing Algorithms Under § 1 Of The Sherman Act, Rix Ryskamp

Courts are increasingly seeing Sherman Act Section 1 claims that involve AI and other software algorithms at the center of alleged conspiracies to unreasonably restrain trade—often called algorithmic collusion claims. Adjudicating these claims can involve complex analyses of how algorithms interact with alleged conspiracies. However, most of the Section 1 case law stems from traditional agreements and can be hard to apply to algorithmic collusion scenarios. This Article provides a framework that judges and other adjudicators might use to analyze the role of an algorithm in an alleged conspiracy without becoming bogged down in technical details early in the case. …

Generative artificial intelligence has infiltrated jury selection right under our noses. What began as a passive data mining experiment has evolved into AI-powered jury selection tools that profile potential jurors by scoring, ranking, and recommending which citizens to exclude from jury service. Although these tools promise objectivity, they risk encoding the same racial and gender biases that Batson v. Kentucky sought to eliminate. Courtroom AI is here to stay. But when lawyers delegate peremptory strikes to statistical models trained on biased data, Batson becomes obsolete. No court can detect algorithmic bias that lacks discernible intent. U.S. consumers participate in the exchange of less data privacy for the benefit of cheaper pricing, innovative services, and the illusion of choice. However, consumer choice at the expense of minimal data privacy has encouraged data broker markets to thrive on pure profit incentives. Seniors participating in Medicare enrollment feel the impact of these profit motives acutely. The Medicare enrollment process is littered with Third Party Marketing Organizations (TPMOs) who use lead generators to target seniors. COVID-19 changed the methods in which therapy was traditionally delivered. Mental health therapists switched from in-person to virtual sessions during the pandemic. There was a gap in research related to stress levels of mental health therapists in the telehealth field. Adaptations were made by mental health therapists to provide services and as a result virtual platforms were used to connect with the community served. This qualitative research study was an exploration of mental health therapists perceived responses to stress or burnout in relation to a global pandemic. Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences

The Syrian elephant (Elephas maximus asurus Deraniyagala, 1951) constitutes the extinct westernmost population of the Asian elephant and occupied parts of the Near East until the early first millennium BCE. Although historical, iconographic, and dental evidence for this population has been discussed extensively, its postcranial anatomy remains poorly documented. We present a revised osteological and morphometric study of cranial and postcranial remains recovered from the Late Bronze Age Gavur Lake Swamp assemblage (ca. 1650–1400 cal BCE) in Kahramanmaraş, southeastern Türkiye, during rescue excavations conducted in 2021 and 2022. Becoming Beyond Ready: Determining Staffing Levels For The 4-H Program To Achieve Opportunity For All Youth, Jeremy Elliott-Engel

4-H seeks to expand opportunity and access for all youth, yet little guidance exists regarding the staffing levels required to achieve that goal. In this commentary, I examine staffing ratios as a measure of organizational capacity and propose discussion of a framework based on the ratio of 4-H professionals to potential youth participants rather than current enrollment. I argue that staffing decisions should move beyond historical staffing patterns and budget constraints and should account for population size, density, and community characteristics. Effective management of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite networks depends on data pipelines capable of predicting link-layer quality metrics (e.g., round-trip time (RTT), throughput (TP), and jitter etc.) at timescales suitable for real-time distributed data routing, handover, and congestion management. This study systematically benchmarks sixteen deep learning (DL) architectures representing four inductive-bias families to evaluate two formally stated hypotheses using 30 days of real Starlink telemetry comprising 417 million observations. The Doctor of Nursing Practice project was conducted to develop and assess a clinical practice guideline (CPG) to enhance medication adherence among adult patients with chronic illnesses in an outpatient setting. Persistent gender disparities continue to limit women’s representation in senior science technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) leadership roles within the United States federal government, particularly at the GS‑13, GS‑14, GS‑15, and subject matter expert/senior executive service (SME/SES) levels. The purpose of this qualitative descriptive phenomenological study was to explore how women in senior STEM leadership experience and interpret gender disparities as they pursue and attain leadership positions. Several widespread mechanisms enable cellular communication and coordinate the behavior of bacterial populations. The modules responsible for cellular communication are often found in matching pairs: an enzyme that synthesizes a signal molecule and a specific receptor that decodes it. A notable exception is Escherichia coli SdiA, a homolog of known N-acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL) receptors, for which no corresponding AHL synthase exists. SdiA is an orphan receptor that enables cross-talk by sensing AHLs from other bacterial species. While beef quality audits have been conducted on a national level in the United States every 5 years since 1991, state-level audits are uncommon. Our team believed that Ohio beef producers would benefit from a state-level audit, so in 2021 we developed and conducted an Ohio Beef Quality Audit, evaluating Ohio meat processing facilities and assessing Ohio meat processors' needs and views on factors that influence meat quality. This paper details the results of that audit, which demonstrated that Ohio beef quality was similar to national beef quality; our audit also highlighted the need to increase fundamental meat science education …

Cooperative Extension System educators empower their communities to meet the challenges they face by translating research-based work for the general public and then bringing that work to those who can put knowledge into practice. However, the assets and needs of communities are broader than those addressed by Extension. Often, the university can offer more resources when it has a mechanism to understand the community's assets and needs. This article details how Nebraska Extension has activated its Engagement Zone Coordinators and community network to provide more opportunities for faculty, staff, postdocs, and students to engage in community-based work.

The desire to support military veterans has led to a variety of targeted Extension programs, but the types and availability of these programs vary substantially. After reviewing the size and diversity of the U.S. veteran population, we examine one of the main USDA programs targeting veterans: the Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development program. We then use matrix analysis to categorize veteran support programs across other program areas. Finally, we compare these programs with veterans' needs, as described in recently conducted veteran focus groups, and conclude by highlighting gaps and opportunities for improving Extension programming for veterans, including substantially improving program …
