The Hierarchical Construction Of A Universal Qualitative Belief Space, Satoshi Fukuda

This paper constructs a canonical representation of players’ belief hierarchies—players’ beliefs over some exogenously given values such as their action profiles or payoff functions, their beliefs about their beliefs about exogenously given values, and so on ad infinitum—in the context of non-probabilistic beliefs, including knowledge. This paper demonstrates that the idea that any “possible” belief hierarchy of a player can be captured as the player’s type holds true regardless of whether players’ beliefs are probabilistic or qualitative. Using Excel’s =LAMBDA and =MAKEARRAY functions allows for the creation of user-defined functions for generating waterfall calculations for a private equity deal, without needing VBA or macro programming.

The three primary waterfall functions determine the waterfall distributions and related performance metrics, including internal rates of return (IRRs) and multiples of invested capital (MOICs), both with and without carried interest.

Copying the cell that uses a waterfall function from the source file to a new file automatically transfers the function and its related intermediate functions. As a result, these functions can be used immediately in other models.

This report investigates and estimates racial disparities in prosecutorial decision-making in the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office (WCPO) from 2017 to 2022. The analysis relies on currently available data resources at the WCPO and examines decision-making at four different junctures in the prosecutorial process: 1) case approval (i.e., warrant authorization) and charge selection, 2) habitual-offender designation (under Michigan law), 3) plea bargaining, and 4) diversion and deferral opportunities. Racial disparities appear most visibly at the earliest stages of the criminal justice process, with People of Color substantially overrepresented in the warrant requests the WCPO receives from law enforcement. A major contributor to the overall nursing shortage is the lack of adequately prepared faculty. This is especially prevalent among novice educators who struggle with transitioning from clinical expert to novice educator. Novice educators report challenges with role confidence and limited knowledge of mentorship, contributing to retention and faculty development concerns. The purpose of this quality improvement project was to evaluate the impact of a targeted six-week educational intervention on novice nurse educators’ role confidence and knowledge of mentorship. Guided by the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) change framework, the project employed a repetitive cycle for improvement: identify the problem, plan and implement …

The 2024 Indonesian presidential election marked a striking realignment as Prabowo Subianto—a former opposition leader—secured victory with the tacit endorsement of outgoing President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). This study investigates how the enduring popularity and policy achievements of Jokowi shaped voter preferences in favor of Prabowo, effectively positioning the election as a referendum on political continuity. Building on theories of economic voting and retrospective performance evaluation, the analysis explores the impact of district-level economic indicators, social media penetration, ideological orientation, social assistance distribution, and sociocultural characteristics on electoral outcomes. Cyclic diguanylate monophosphate (c-di-GMP) is a second messenger that is responsible for attachment and motility in many prokaryotic systems and controls the signaling pathway for the motile to sessile transition in many bacteria. Many c-di-GMP-metabolizing proteins are diguanylate cyclases (DGCs), responsible for the synthesis of c-di-GMP and characterized by a c-di-GMP synthesizing domain, e.g., GGDEF domain. Other c-di-GMP-metabolizing proteins contain c-di-GMP degradative domains, e.g., EAL, characterized by phosphodiesterase activity (PDE). In Agrobacterium tumefaciens, out of 31 predicted proteins regulating the c-di-GMP level, this project focuses on the predicted dual-function DGC/PDE, DcpB. One of the best-known results in panel data econometrics, due to Mundlak (1978), is the equality of the random-effects and fixed-effects estimators when the individual effects are correlated with the means over time of the regressors. Chamberlain (1980) showed that the same result holds when the individual effects are correlated with the regressors for all moments in time separately. In this chapter, we review basic elements of the Mundlak and Chamberlain projections. Introduction: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a major risk factor for developing tuberculosis (TB). However, understanding the role of defective T cell responses in T2D and TB has been difficult, largely due to inconsistencies across studies. These discrepancies often stem from T cell subset classification primarily relying on cytokine expression profiles, which may not fully capture the complexity of T cell maturation, differentiation, and function in TB patients with T2D.

Microbial dysbiosis has been linked to environmental enteropathy (EE) and alterations in nutrient absorption; however, compositional modifications following exposure to supplementary nutrients are poorly understood. Here, we report the effect of amino acid and micronutrient supplementation on the gut microbiome of adults with EE. In the AMAZE trial, adults with EE were randomized to amino acids (AA) and/or micronutrients (MM) for 16 weeks in a 2 × 2 factorial design against placebo. Endoscopy was performed before and after intervention, during which duodenal aspirates were collected as well as fecal samples. 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing was performed on both these samples, …

Dinah Between Rape And Seduction: Maarten Van Heemskerck And Renaissance Attitudes Towards Gender And Conflict, Péter Bokody

Marteen van Heemskerck’s Old Testament print series about Dinah, daughter of Jacob, was engraved by Herman Jansz. Muller and published by Gerard de Jode in Antwerp in 1569. In these images Heemskerck reinterprets the Old Testament narrative from a highly misogynistic standpoint, disputing the biblical claim that Shechem raped Dinah. The paper traces the sporadic representations of the episode in print and painting and examines visual strategies that emphasize male vulnerability over the suffering the female victim. Heemskerck’s artistic choices are evaluated in the context of exegetical differences between Martin Luther and John Calvin.

A non-indigenous species (NIS) of benthic foraminifera was first identified in a core collected in 1993 in San Francisco Bay, California, USA, and subsequently identified as Trochammina hadai Uchio, 1962. Archived samples and literature reviews were used to determine that the species, which is native to Asia, arrived in San Francisco Bay between the early 1960s and 1983. Through molecular analyses of specimens, archived samples and literature reviews from 1930-1983, and site surveys of harbors and estuaries along the western North American seaboard in 1994-2024, in total more than 2500 samples, we documented the presence of T. hadai at 73 …

BACKGROUND: Unsupervised cognitive assessments are becoming commonly used in studies of aging and neurodegenerative diseases. As assessments are completed in everyday environments and without a proctor, there are concerns about how common distractions may impact performance and whether these distractions may differentially impact those experiencing the earliest symptoms of dementia.

OBJECTIVE: We examined the impact of self-reported interruptions, testing location, and social context during testing on remote cognitive assessments in older adults.

Objectives: Anthracyclines are widely used in the treatment of breast cancer. One of the known adverse effects of anthracyclines is anthracycline-induced cardiomyopathy. Studies done worldwide showed that the prevalence of chemotherapy-induced cardiomyopathy is approximately 9%. However, studies evaluating this complication prevalence, risk factors and cumulative dose are lacking in Oman. This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of anthracycline-induced cardiomyopathy among breast cancer patients in Oman. These non-terrestrial broadcast platforms perform in a non-interactive manner (i.e. the platform picks the tracks for the consumer to listen to) as opposed to in an interactive manner (i.e. listener picks the track) by a platform such as Spotify or Apple Music.
