Patents Granted

A rice cultivar designated ‘Ozark’ is disclosed herein. The present invention provides seeds, plants, and plant parts derived from rice cultivar Ozark. Further, it provides methods for producing a rice plant by crossing Ozark with itself or another rice variety. The invention also encompasses any rice seeds, plants, and plant parts produced by the methods disclosed herein, including those in which additional traits have been transferred into Ozark through the introduction of a transgene or by breeding Ozark with another rice cultivar.

The mitotic kinesin EG5 is essential for spindle bipolarity and accurate chromosome segregation during cell division, making it a validated anti-cancer target. Unlike conventional microtubule-targeting agents, EG5 inhibitors offer mitosis-specific action, reducing neurotoxicity. Although inhibitors targeting EG5’s allosteric site-I have been extensively studied, mechanistic insights into inhibition at site-II, and their combined effects, remain underexplored. This thesis systematically investigates the structural and dynamic mechanisms underlying EG5 function and its inhibition using an integrative computational approach.

Conformational analysis, coarse-grained dynamics, all-atom molecular dynamics simulations, and protein network analysis were performed on EG5 motor domain structures and EG5-microtubule complexes. Results show that …

Taguchi’s on-line quality control methods attach importance to the reduction of variation of a quality characteristic about an engineering target. The quality characteristic can be nominal-the-best, higher-the-better, or lower-the-better. He introduced the concept of the loss function. The loss incurred to society is impacted by the variation or deviation from the target. The optimal sampling interval advocated by Taguchi in this context is important. However, Taguchi didn’t consider certain parameters like the rate of production, loss incurred due to false alarms, loss incurred due to non-detection of process abnormalities. Surfactant-enhanced spontaneous imbibition is a proven method of enhancing oil recovery from shale reservoirs. However, a significant knowledge gap concerning the impact of clay minerals on surfactant-enhanced imbibition in shale reservoirs remains. Therefore, this study first analyzed the mineral composition and pore structure of the shale reservoirs. Subsequently, three surfactants were selected for spontaneous imbibition experiments. The influence of various clay minerals on the surfactant imbibition was assessed by considering various properties of the imbibition system. The results showed that the shale pores primarily consisted of macropores (44.03%) and mesopores (43.94%). Surfactants enhance the imbibition recovery by altering the wettability …

Introduction: Considering the importance of differentiating between benign and malignant thyroid nodules, this study explores the individual predictors of malignancy. Recent research has focused on individual predictors of isolation, but a comprehensive assessment of these predictors is essential to improve diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.

Methods: This comprehensive systematic review included seven articles after a rigorous screening of PubMed, PubMed Central, and MEDLINE databases and thus analyzed 1419 patients with indeterminate thyroid nodules using different determinants, such as genetic, biochemical, clinical, radiological, and cytological.

Online sensing plays an important role in advancing modern manufacturing. The real-time sensor signals, which can be stored as high-resolution time series data, contain rich information about the operation status. One of its popular usages is online process monitoring, which can be achieved by effective anomaly detection from the sensor signals. However, most existing approaches either heavily rely on labeled data for training supervised models, or are designed to detect only extreme outliers, thus are ineffective at identifying subtle semantic off-track anomalies to capture where new regimes or unexpected routines start. BACKGROUND: Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a serious complication that necessitates a complex treatment strategy. Single-stage exchange arthroplasty, combined with intravenous and intra-articular antibiotic infusions, has shown high efficacy in treating complex PJIs. However, the impact of this approach on hematologic parameters remains underexplored. This study aims to evaluate the postoperative trends in blood platelet count, white blood cell (WBC) count, and neutrophil count in patients undergoing single-stage exchange arthroplasty.

METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 313 patients who underwent single-stage revision for PJI between June 2010 and October 2022. Hematologic parameters were monitored for the first seven postoperative …

This essay is an exploration of the play The Glass Menagerie, by Tennessee Williams, through a feminist lens that offers a new interpretation of the famous play, supported by evidence from Williams’s own personal history, feminist interpretations of Williams’s work, and the discussion of what a protagonist really is. I argue that Tom, who is traditionally considered the protagonist, operates as an unreliable narrator and, therefore, the antagonist to Amanda and his sister Laura, impeding their happiness and sense of well-being. A method for achieving a target joint preload can include applying a tightening torque to the second fastener element and measuring that torque as a trial tightening torque. The method can further include applying a loosening torque to the second fastener element and measuring that torque as a trial removal torque. Additionally, the method can include calculating a required tightening torque that is required to be applied to the second fastener element to achieve the target joint preload using only the thread pitch, the trial tightening torque, the trial removal torque, and the target joint preload.

A mathematical task rooted in social and/or political contexts has the potential to engage students in exploring their own real-ities and learning about the realities of others while building their mathematical knowledge. While there are planning and in-structional practices recommended for these types of tasks, no single practice can fully capture the nuances and challenges thatteachers might encounter. Studies show that inconsistencies in teaching and evaluating skills proficiency in nursing programs can lead to student failure, delayed progression, and decreased faculty satisfaction. The purpose and aim of this quality improvement project was to determine whether the use of an evidence-based, standardized tool for teaching and evaluating Foley catheter insertion improved faculty satisfaction and teaching confidence compared to faculty-created checklists. The project utilized a quasi-experimental design guided by the Iowa Model of Evidence-Based Practice and Kotter’s 8-Step Change Model.
