Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) are among the most promising groups of two-dimensional (2D) materials for applications in electronics, optoelectronics, electrocatalysis, energy storage, and spintronics. This dissertation looks at several examples of early modern pastoral in order to examine how physical movement into and out of the pastoral setting informs the degree of realism implied by that setting. While the pastoral stops short of articulating the actual social, political, and material concerns of those who literally live in the countryside, it does regularly call to mind a literal rural world. Historically variable in its terminology, “vibrato” was not used until the nineteenth century. Coaches and teachers recognize it as a signature of healthy, expressive singing, except in some stylistically appropriate contexts. However, it continues to raise questions. Little data has been reported on vibrato outside of general characteristics. Only a few sources exist examining the knowledge and skillset of teachers of singing. This survey aimed to gain information on what instructors and coaches are told about vibrato in comparison to what they experience in the voice studio. Academic makerspaces have become integral hubs of innovation on university campuses, providing students with access to industrial-grade operational technology (OT) such as 3D printers and CNC machines. However, the security posture for these spaces has overwhelmingly focused on physical safety, creating a significant cybersecurity gap. This oversight leaves networked OT vulnerable to cyberattacks, which threaten student intellectual property, expensive equipment, and the integrity of the broader institutional network. Exploring The Bank Lending Channel: How Bank Characteristics Shape Monetary Policy Effectiveness, Filip Świtała

Journal of Banking and Financial Economics

This paper examines how individual bank characteristics influence the transmission of monetary policy through the bank lending channel. Using panel data and a Fixed Effects model validated by the Hausman test, the author analyses how bank size, capitalization, profitability and asset quality affect responses to monetary tightening. The study highlights the importance of inter-bank differences in shaping monetary policy effectiveness and offers insights for regulatory frameworks and macroprudential policies aimed at strengthening financial stability.

For this Doctor of Nursing Practice project in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), the focus was on enhancing education for acute care nurses about the benefits of inpatient rehabilitation for appropriate patients. The practice problem was the underutilization of inpatient rehabilitation despite its proven benefits in improving patient outcomes and reducing readmissions. With this project, I aimed to educate nurses on identifying suitable candidates for inpatient rehabilitation, thereby improving patient care transitions and outcomes. We report a 62-year-old male who had a Heartware left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation and subsequently developed a persistent driveline infection, culminating in an abscess along the driveline site despite 18 months of antibiotic treatment. His situation was further complicated post-transplant by the onset of mediastinitis, linked to a previously undervalued Stenotrophomonas maltophilia infection. This report highlights the potential risks of heart transplantation in patients with unresolved LVAD driveline infections, particularly mediastinitis. The presence of existing driveline infections, combined with the immunosuppressed status of patients, necessitates aggressive surgical measures. Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is the most common protozoal skin infection worldwide. Multiple treatments for CL have been developed to address issues related to resistance, availability, and safety. Topical treatments have shown promise by reducing unnecessary systemic exposure and providing a viable local therapeutic option. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted of all literature published before 28 February 2025 through PubMed/MEDLINE, the Cochrane Library, and EBSCO, comparing topical paromomycin–gentamicin (PG) with topical paromomycin alone (PR). Endometriosis is a gynecological pathology prevalent in reproductive age women in which the inner uterine wall (endometrium) grows outside as ectopic lesions. The inflammation resulting from these growing implants closely associates with disease severity, causing chronic pain and infertility. Emerging studies have found altered bacterial communities in endometriosis and a causal role for gut bacteria in endometriosis. However, the role of the gut mycobiome, i.e., the fungal component of the microbiome in endometriosis is a current knowledge gap that needs to be addressed. Overlapping clinical symptoms between people with multiple sclerosis (PwMS) and those with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (PwNMOSD) can result in misdiagnosis. Large language models, such as ChatGPT, offer accessible tools for preliminary health guidance. We assessed the accuracy of open-access (GPT-3.5) and subscription-based (GPT-4) models in diagnosing MS and NMOSD, and the influences of key diagnostic inflection points (initial MRI findings and aquaporin-4 (AQP4) antibody testing) and subject demographics on model performance. PwMS and PwNMOSD were retrospectively identified within a single academic center, and structured clinical timelines were processed through GPT-3.5 and GPT-4. Senolytic drugs, of the class of polyphenolic flavonoids, have attracted attention for a wide variety of medical applications for which they may be delivered topically, orally, and/or intravenously. However, due to their hydrophobicity and sensitivity to light and oxygen, they have been proven difficult to package and deliver. Here we report a synthesis method for encapsulated fisetin using lecithin-chitosan ionic gelation with a recently reported surfactant that is an alternative to polyethylene glycol (PEG)-containing compounds. In this study, a novel approach was proposed for predicting the interfacial gap in copper overlap joints by using deep learning and multi-sensor fusion. In this method, an image sensor, a spectrometer, and optical sensors tomography (OCT) sensors were used to develop and validate deep learning models under various gap conditions. The results revealed that the variation in melt pool dimensions, changes in keyhole behavior, intensity variations at specific wavelengths, and keyhole depth derived from the OCT data could be used to accurately predict the interfacial gap. Amyloid proteins are linked to various diseases; however, their functional roles in immunity and cancer remain unclear. Here, we establish a direct link between oligomeric cystatin C-a cysteine cathepsin inhibitor and a well-characterized amyloidogenic protein-within the tumor microenvironment and the immune inhibitory receptors LILRB2 and LILRB5 on myeloid cells. We demonstrated that human LILRB2 and LILRB5, along with their murine counterpart PIRB, serve as functional receptors for cystatin C oligomers. Engagement of these inhibitory receptors by oligomeric cystatin C enhances the immunosuppressive activity of myeloid cells, leading to T-cell suppression and tumor progression. Vitamin D supplementation is linked to many beneficial health outcomes in the geriatric population, such as decreased mortality, epigenetic aging, and fracture risk. Conversely, type 2 diabetes is strongly linked to vitamin D deficiency in older adults. However, there is a discrepancy between clinical trials in adults on the efficacy of vitamin D treatment in prediabetes and diabetes. In addition, human data indicates there may be sexual dimorphism in the effect of vitamin D deficiency on dysglycemia that is more pronounced in men. The impact of this ancient culture, which has continuously been encouraged from generation to generation to date, has been devastating for widows. The purpose of this generic qualitative study was to investigate the effects of widowhood practices on the well-being of young widows in southeastern Nigeria. Feminist theory was the conceptual framework.
