BACKGROUND: Complementary therapies are being increasingly used by cancer survivors. As a channel for customers to share their feelings, outcomes, and perceived knowledge about the products purchased from e-commerce platforms, Amazon consumer reviews are a valuable real-world data source for understanding cancer survivorship care needs.
OBJECTIVE: In this study, we aimed to highlight the potential of using Amazon consumer reviews as a novel source for identifying cancer survivorship care needs, particularly related to symptom self-management. This paper investigates the thermal performance of an office floor within the Faculty of Engineering at the British University in Egypt (BUE), located in Cairo, a city characterized by a hot arid climate. The study focuses on understanding the building’s thermal behavior by comparing two identical office rooms: Room 212 (north-facing) and Room 201 (south facing). Upon antigenic stimulation, CD4+T cells undergo clonal expansion elevating their bioenergetic demands and utilization of nutrients like glucose and glutamine. The nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is a well-known regulator of oxidative stress, but its involvement in modulating the metabolism of CD4+T cells remains unexplored. We report that Nrf2 protein levels are temporally regulated in activated CD4+T cells, with elevated expression during early activation followed by a decline. T cell-specific constitutive activation of Nrf2, by deletion of its negative regulator Keap1, enhances early activation and interleukin-2 (IL-2) expression, upregulates T cell receptor (TCR) signaling, and increases activation-driven expansion of …

UNLABELLED: Few studies provide insights on how to incorporate community members' perspectives of genomic research during the early phases of study development. Engaging with community members early and consistently throughout the research lifecycle could help identify and mitigate barriers to genomic research participation, particularly among groups with rare and understudied cancers.
METHODS: The Washington University Participant Engagement and Cancer Genome Sequencing (WU-PE-CGS) study formed a Participant Engagement Advisory Board (PEAB) consisting of patients, patient advocates, and patient advocacy organizations who represented the three understudied cancer populations: cholangiocarcinoma, early-onset colorectal cancer in Black Americans, and multiple myeloma in Black Americans. Murine and human immune systems differ significantly, particularly within the myeloid lineage. Infections with nontuberculous mycobacterium (NTM) are on the rise. Here, we investigated an uncommon NTM infection, by M. haemophilum (Mh, n = 4), from a shared geographic location in the United States. All patients had underlying immunosuppressive conditions or treatments. We identified that all these individuals had a nonsynonymous mutation in GATA2 gene, which was absent in healthy controls (HCs, n = 4) from the same geographic area (Missouri, USA). Whole blood from these individuals had attenuated cytokine responses to Mh stimulation for IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, MIP-1α and MIP-1β, but not to phytohemagglutinin (PHA) or another NTM, M. abscessus. This study examines the spatial variability of shallow groundwater on Dhigelaabadhoo Island using Electromagnetic Induction surveys, groundwater monitoring, and sediment analyses. The research reveals how variations in island morphology—such as differences in elevation, reef flat width, and sediment composition—affect the spatial distribution of groundwater lenses and the overall aquifer dynamics. Dataset description: the dataset consists of five zip files. Each contains raw data for each sensor used in the study and a readme.txt file describing the data.

Adenylosuccinate lyase deficiency (ADSLd) is a rare autosomal recessive purine metabolism disorder with several clinical manifestations. While toxic substrate accumulation is a known hallmark, no additional molecular mechanisms have been established. Here, we show that ADSLd is associated with mitochondrial dysfunction, including increased fragmentation, impaired respiration, and reduced ATP production. The severity of mitochondrial impairment correlates with ADSLd pathology, especially in mitochondria-dependent tissues. We also identify defects in mitochondrial dynamics and transport linked to ERK2 and AKT suppression. Notably, overexpressing constitutively active ERK2 or supplementing purine intermediates partially rescues the mitochondrial phenotype. These findings suggest an alternative disease mechanism and …

Snow accumulation on photovoltaic (PV) panels can cause significant energy losses in cold climates. While drone-based monitoring offers a scalable solution, real-world challenges like varying illumination can hinder accurate snow detection. We previously developed a YOLO-based drone system for snow coverage detection using a Fixed Thresholding segmentation method to discriminate snow from the solar panel; however, it struggled in challenging lighting conditions. This work addresses those limitations by presenting a reliable drone-based system to accurately estimate the Snow Coverage Percentage (SCP) over PV panels. Electrical faults in power transmission systems can severely affect grid stability, equipment safety, and operational reliability. Traditional protection schemes, particularly distance relays, depend on apparent impedance computation that changes with error, creating a risk of misclassification. The results from relay overreach, underreach, or complete maloperation due to CT/PT saturation lead to developing problems in high impedance situations. These limitations highlight the need for adaptive, data-driven alternatives. This paper proposes an intelligent fault detection and classification model based on supervised machine learning techniques that overcome these challenges. TDP43 is an RNA/DNA-binding protein increasingly recognized for its role in neurodegenerative conditions, including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). As characterized by its aberrant nuclear export and cytoplasmic aggregation, TDP43 proteinopathy is a hallmark feature in over 95% of ALS/FTD cases, leading to detrimental cytosolic aggregates and a reduction in nuclear functionality in neurons. Building on our prior work linking TDP43 proteinopathy to the accumulation of DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) in neurons, the present investigation uncovers a novel regulatory relationship between TDP43 and DNA mismatch repair (MMR) gene expression. The emerging field of cancer neuroscience is rapidly evolving, driven by novel technologies and tools. These include advances in single-cell and spatial transcriptomics; genetic mouse models paired with automated high-throughput; and innovative optical electrophysiological approaches, optogenetics, chemogenetics, engineered viruses, and new methods for visualizing neuronal activity. Collectively, these technologies are revolutionizing how we investigate, manipulate, and characterize distinct components that contribute to the nervous system-cancer interface. In the present review, we discuss the key technologies that are closing the gap between oncology and neuroscience, highlighting the innovations that are propelling the cancer neuroscience field forward.

Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR), widely used for gene editing, relies on bacterial endonucleases like Cas9 to study gene functions and develop therapies. However, its potential effects on mammalian cellular behavior remain unclear. Here, we systematically profiled effects of stable Cas9 expression on growth of 32 cell lines spanning 9 cancer types and non-cancerous cells, finding growth alterations in a subset. One of the most important factors in preventing mild steel from deteriorating in acidic conditions is corrosion inhibition. This study examined the anti-corrosion properties of two benzodiazepine compounds, namely Dimethyl-[4-(4-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[b][1,4] diazepin-2-yl] L-[4-(4-methyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[b][1,4]diazepin-2-yl)-phenyl] and dimethy-amine (DPBD) and toluene (DMBD), employing density functional theory (DFT)-based quantum chemical computations. Determining the corrosion inhibitors’ active locations and contrasting their efficacy were the goals. The probable active sites of DPBD and DMBD as corrosion inhibitors were identified by the DFT calculations.
