Purpose: Patients undergoing lower extremity amputation often desire to take an active part in decision-making. The primary aim of this study was to explore patients’ experiences of the care trajectory and information provided after a new care program was introduced. The secondary aim was to explore patients' perspectives of their involvement and participation in shared decision-making throughout the care process. The care program features new educational material, recommendations for the sagittal surgical technique, and information about a rigid removable dressing, early liner treatment, and a multidisciplinary team follow up three weeks after amputation.

Purpose: To gain insight into the self-management and support needs of patients experiencing persistent symptoms consistent with hypothyroidism, despite thyroid laboratory values within the normal range.

Methods: A qualitative study using the phenomenological approach was conducted. Semi-structured interviews including 19 patients diagnosed with persistent symptoms consistent with hypothyroidism, despite receiving adequate replacement therapy, were performed. Respondents were recruited using purposive sampling via Schildklier Organisatie Nederland (Dutch Thyroid Organization) (www.schildklier.nl). After transcription and coding, a thematic analysis was performed.

Purpose: Myocardial infarction (MI) remains to be associated with a high risk of recurrent cardiovascular events and disease burden. This study assessed patient perspectives on the burden of disease and treatment in the first year post-MI.

Methods: Data were collected via a self-administered online questionnaire posted on the Carenity patient platform in the United States (10/30/2022−12/30/2022). Only patients who had an MI in the prior year were eligible for inclusion.

This study examined how ecosystemic factors—gender, exposure to community violence, attachment to parents, children’s hope, commitment to school, and concern about community safety—affect internalizing and externalizing behaviors among African American, Latinx, and Asian American youth (N = 212) in Chicago. Additionally, this study tested whether CH served as a moderating factor in the relationship between concern about CCS and internalizing and externalizing behaviors among youth who are racial minorities. Hierarchical multivariate regression analyses found that the effects of ecosystemic factors varied depending on the youth’s racial contexts. Purpose: Misregistration between CT and PET can result in mis-localization and inaccurate quantification of the tracer uptake in PET. Data-driven gated (DDG) CT can correct registration and quantification but requires a radiation dose of 1.3 mSv and 1 min of acquisition time. AI registration (AIR) does not require an additional CT and has been validated to improve registration and reduce the 'banana' misregistration artifacts around the diaphragm. We aimed to compare a validated AIR and DDG CT in registration and quantification of avid thoracic lesions misregistered in DDG PET scans.

Experts recommend screening for or presumptively treating strongyloidiasis in foreign-born immigrant children, though prevalence is unknown. Health care providers encounter barriers to following this recommendation. We aimed to describe Strongyloides seropositivity and risk factors among pediatric patients on a mobile clinic. Participants completed a written survey and provided blood for absolute eosinophil count (AEC) and Strongyloides IgG enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). From October 2022 to June 2023, 206 patients participated; 201 (97.6%) were born outside the United States; 97.1% (n = 200) were Hispanic. Oncogenic KRAS is amongst the key genetic drivers for initiation and maintenance of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). Here, we show that engineered exosomes with KrasG12D specific siRNA (iExoKrasG12D) reveal a biodistribution in pancreas with negligible toxicity in preclinical studies in mice and Rhesus macaques. Clinical testing of iExoKrasG12D in the iEXPLORE (iExoKrasG12D in Pancreatic Cancer) Phase I study employed a non-randomized single-arm classical 3 + 3 dose escalation design (Phase Ia), followed by an accelerated titration design (Phase Ib) (NCT03608631). Gravel beach systems provide vital protection from coastal flooding and erosion. They are highly dynamic and exhibit complex responses to hydrodynamic forcing over a range of temporal (hourly centennial) and spatial scales (m to km). Yet gravel beach evolution, particularly at interannual to decadal scales, across the spectrum of coastal settings, remains poorly understood. We use four decades of Satellite-Derived Shoreline (SDS) data to explore the morphodynamic behaviour of 45 selected gravel beach systems around the United Kingdom and Ireland. Background: Tau protein aggregates are a key pathological hallmark of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and are closely associated with cognitive decline and neurodegeneration. It is proposed that tau aggregates faithfully propagate throughout the brain by self-templating their disease-associated conformation onto natively-folded tau monomers, thereby inducing their aggregation and incorporation into growing fibrils. As such, the inhibition or modulation of tau seeding and aggregation represents a viable therapeutic strategy for AD and other tauopathies.

Background: Multimodality treatment {surgery + pre-operative chemoradiation [chemoradiotherapy for oesophageal cancer followed by surgery (CROSS)] or perioperative chemotherapy [fluorouracil, leucovorin, oxaliplatin and docetaxel (FLOT)]} is the standard of care for locally advanced oesophageal cancer. Whilst highly tolerated, clinically, patients may experience toxicities which negatively impact their functional status. Exercise prehabilitation aims to improve functional status in advance of oesophagectomy to minimise postoperative morbidities. The PRE-HIIT trial examined the ability of a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) exercise programme to improve cardiorespiratory fitness in advance of complex cancer surgery. Statice is a cut-and-come-again, full-sun annual with clustered, papery blooms. Plants have lower water needs and a moderate tolerance to salinity, making this crop a sustainable choice for cut flower production in Utah and other states with water and soil limitations. This fact sheet provides information on statice cultivars, site preparation, germination, transplanting and spacing, trellising, nutrient management, harvest, economics for producers, and pest and disease management.

Academia, think tanks, and international media have largely adopted the Turkish government’s narrative that the events of July 15, 2016, constituted a failed coup attempt. This dominant framing has shaped policy responses and scholarly interpretations despite the authoritarian context in which it was crafted. Many Turkish and Western scholars accepted the Turkish government’s narrative that the July 15 events were a failed coup attempt. They often rely on surface-level indicators and official statements without critically engaging with available evidence. Also, they disregarded substantial evidence and defendants’ statements in judicial proceedings that directly contradict official statements. One notable exception to this …

Urban densification threatens biodiversity, yet conventional greenspace expansion is con-strained by limited land availability. Living wall systems (LWS) offer potential biodiversity enhancement through vertical green infrastructure, though their ecological value re-mains underexplored. This study evaluated the biodiversity performance of three LWS in Plymouth, UK, using multi-taxa surveys to assess invertebrate communities, bird assemblages, and bat activity. A scoping review of 2,638 publications revealed limited research on LWS biodiversity, with only 27% of biodiversity-focused papers referencing specific species. The Community Mental Health Framework for Adults and Older Adults 2019 provided impetus for integration within England. It was unknown how, why, or under what circumstances integration would occur.Methods: A realist evaluation of Framework implementation in Somerset was undertaken. The extent of change, and how, why and under what circumstances change occurred were evaluated. Embedded researchers collected observational and interview data, and reviewed internal records. The court dismissed the landlord's petition without prejudice, finding the apartment rent-stabilized because the landlord failed to provide the required deregulation rider to the first tenant after a purported high-rent vacancy deregulation. Although the landlord proved substantial individual apartment improvements (IAIs), the regulatory status was deemed rent-stabilized. Consequently, the tenant's rent overcharge counterclaim was granted for $6,267.50, but claims for warranty of habitability breach, treble damages, and attorney's fees were denied.

Ebola virus (EBOV) is a nonsegmented, negative-sense virus (NNSV) with a single-stranded RNA genome. EBOV encodes for a limited number of proteins and thus depends on host factors to facilitate viral replication and pathogenesis. Of the virus-encoded proteins, multifunctional EBOV VP35 (eVP35) is necessary for host immune evasion and viral RNA synthesis. Previous proteomics studies identified an interaction between eVP35 and the host E3 ubiquitin ligase Mindbomb 2 (MIB2). Here, we show how an NNLNS (Asn-Asn-Leu-Asn-Ser) motif (residues 201 to 205) within eVP35 serves as a binding site for MIB2.
