Electronic Health Records (EHR) contain a wealth of structured and unstructured patient data that can be leveraged for computable phenotyping, the process of algorithmically identifying patient cohorts with specific diseases or conditions. Traditional rule-based phenotyping approaches, while interpretable, often struggle with scalability, portability across institutions, and effective use of unstructured clinical narratives. Recent advances in large language models (LLMs) present new opportunities for synthesizing complex free-text information into concise, clinically meaningful representations. However, integrating LLMs into phenotyping workflows requires careful design to maintain transparency, interpretability, and measurable uncertainty—features essential for clinical adoption and downstream applications such as decision support.

Introduction: The smoking pattern of Latino smokers differs from non-Latino white smokers such that physical dependence may not be a strong motivator for smoking among Latinos. Multidimensional measures of dependence may be more useful, but there is a lack of psychometrically sound multidimensional Spanish-language measures. This study evaluated the psychometric properties of a Spanish-language adaptation of the Brief Wisconsin Inventory of Dependence Motives (Brief WISDM) for use among Spanish-speaking Latino smokers in the U.S.

Slum communities which compose an informal city offer a serious challenge to urban metabolism approaches that promise to be inclusive in confronting environmental injustice. In particular, urban political ecology (UPE) frameworks critically examine power structures and relational dynamics in the environment where objectionable injustices are identified and corrected. However, Holifield (2009) finds UPE limiting as it excludes marginalized communities and other important factors. The main reason Holifield highlights is the dominance of Marxist UPE frameworks that interpret environmental injustices narrowly as results of uneven social power relations and dynamics driven primarily by neo-liberal capitalist behaviors, institutions, and activities. Nutrition intervention programs can improve dietary patterns, habits, and health outcomes in communities, but a long-term, integrative approach is essential for success. Barriers such as limited time, resources, lack of cultural sensitivity, and competing priorities hinder their effectiveness. Research highlights the importance of environmental support, particularly from peers and employers, in improving dietary habits and nutrition literacy.

South Asians have a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes than manyother racial or ethnic groups. Dietary patterns are a key, modifiable risk factor, and cultural influences strongly shape food choices and lifestyle decisions. Effective, long-term behavior change requires culturally meaningful interventions. This study aimed to develop culturally tailored recipes that comply with the American Diabetes Association (ADA) and American Heart Association (AHA) guidelines.

We examine how three newspapers in different languages (New York Times in English, Sözcü in Turkish, and NurKZ in Russian) frame the same Syria Trump meeting using aspect based sentiment analysis. Each article was segmented into sentences (NYT 67, NurKZ 40, Sözcü 26), with Turkish and Russian sentences translated into English while preserving the original text for reference. We applied an LLM based ABSA labeler constrained to a fixed set of predefined aspects, allowing us to compare sentiment at the level of specific themes rather than overall tone. This project explores the feasibility of using a Large Language Model (LLM) to provide technical ballet critiques, a task traditionally reliant on oral tradition and person-toperson instruction. To test accuracy, current-day ballet technical standards were applied to clips of Leslie Caron in the 1951 film An American in Paris. Seven clips of classical ballet were analyzed by both the researcher (a dancer with 15 years of pre-professional training) and Gemini. Using a structured, technique-focused prompt, the LLM was tasked with providing technical corrections. This study proposes an AI-based economic uncertainty metric built from disagreement among three frontier large language models (Claude, Google Gemini, and ChatGPT) that score daily market sentiment across five dimensions: equities, inflation, labor, consumer confidence, and forward guidance. We quantify both across-model and within-model disagreement using cosine distance between 5-dimensional sentiment vectors and assess whether these disagreement measures track or relate to established uncertainty benchmarks (VIX, EPU, and the Citi Economic Surprise Index). Results suggested that across-model disagreement moved more closely with new and policy-based uncertainty than with option-implied volatility, as it was strongly positively correlated with the Economic Policy …

Project management apps often center around tracking tasks but in reality, setbacks come from system-level dynamics (handoffs and review gates, constrained specialists with overloaded schedules, etc), which quietly compound until nothing ships on time. This work presents PULSE, an agentic workflow optimization system that turns event logs and operational data into a three-component manager-ready report including 1. skill- and capacity-aware task assignments, 2. bottleneck detection from event logs, and 3. human-in-the-loop AI-assist recommendations. I evaluate my MVP using a synthetic dataset built with Ollama, mimicking cross-functional collaboration in a mid-sized e-commerce company. More than 30% of North Dakota adults age 65 and older have lost six or more teeth which is nearly three times higher than the U.S. average (11.7%). Likewise, 17% of older adults in North Dakota report complete tooth loss compared to just 6% nationally. This factsheet shares the connection between oral health and overall health, and ways to take care of teeth later in life.

Fruits have long been used as a metaphor for women’s bodies, reducing them to symbols of ripeness, sweetness, or fertility. Fruit is scientifically defined as “the fleshy or dry ripened ovary” of a plant. The fleshy, fruit-like forms I make explore the objectification of women’s bodies and the subjectivity of beauty and attractiveness. I study the shapes of fruit and women’s bodies, combining coil building with carving to create my work. In the past five years, numerous Republican legislators and conservative parental groups have aggressively pushed to restrict sexual content in public schools. Many school districts have adopted policies that limit what topics are covered in class, and several statewide laws have legitimized and mandated these policies. Consequently, books featuring queer themes or characters are rapidly disappearing from public school libraries. These library restrictions, or book bans, have sparked substantial controversy and litigation.

Mechanical properties of tendon are highly influenced by structural protein composition and microscopic sub-structures. Within the largest subunit of tendon, the fascicle, the role of the elastin protein remains understudied despite impressive extensibility and fatigue resistance of its resulting elastic fibers. While previous work catalogued contributions of fascicular elastin across tendon type and species, the anticipated effects of elastin in fatigue and healing have not yet been explored. While previous knockout mouse models showed that disruption of elastic fibers led to altered mechanical properties (e.g., increased linear modulus), these models depended on heterozygous elastin deficiency or indirect knockout of proteins …

The TRASH-E (Terrain-Adaptive Remote Autonomous Sanitation Hauling Engineer) project was created to compete in the 2025 ASME Student Design Challenge. For 2025, the ASME SDC asked for the development of a remotecontrolled robot that could collect and deposit trash from receptacles placed around a miniature city. The robot had to adhere to specific size and weight constraints, as well as obey traffic laws in the same manner as a real driver operating a motor vehicle.

This project centers on creating an educational air-hockey exhibit designed for use in a science museum. The goal of the device is to transform a familiar game into a hands-on demonstration of basic physics and engineering concepts such as motion, momentum, energy transfer, and impact forces. Through discussions with our customer, Professor Potter, we established that the exhibit must balance two priorities: it must be fun and intuitive for visitors of all ages, and it must provide meaningful real-time feedback that helps users understand the science behind the experience.

For this project, our goal was to design and build a remote-controlled wastecollection robot that could pick up trash bins and deliver their contents to a dumpsite while staying within the strict rules of the ASME challenge. The robot had to fit inside a 50 cm cube, drive through six-inch lanes, follow traffic rules, and be fully controlled by a six-channel RC controller. These constraints shaped almost every decision we made throughout the design process.
