Out-Of-Band Bluetooth Pairing Using Infrared Remote Control Protocols, Guillaume Bailey, Gaëtan Delcroix

Defensive Publications Series

In general, conventional radio frequency (RF) pairing methods for computing devices that use, for example, Bluetooth technology may rely on in-band communications between the computing devices. The reliance on the in-band communications between the computing devices for pairing may result in a slow, probabilistic process that may be prone to failure. Such a process may lead to a poor user experience. For example, a user may use in-band communications between a remote control device for a smart television and the smart television when pairing the remote control device with the smart television during, for example, an out of box setup …

Enabling Vertical Power Delivery In Large Asics And/Or Asic Packages Using Innovative Heatsink Support Structures, Dylan G. Rust-Nguyen, Vvs Narayana Jagarapu, Marshall J. Lise, David K. Owen

Defensive Publications Series

This document introduces a novel method for integrating heatsink mechanical supports into large ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) designs in a way that does not obstruct vertical power delivery. Vertical power delivery is a method that feeds current directly into the underside of the ASIC through vias. Traditional heatsink support structures use drawbars peripheral to the ASIC, distant from the ASIC’s center. The location of these drawbars necessitates the use of large backing plates, but these large backing plates interfere with vertical power delivery. The technique and apparatus described in this paper reposition the forces applied by heatsink drawbars by positioning …

Climate change and the global energy crisis have led to an increasing need for greenhouse gas remediation and clean energy sources. The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) is a promising solution for both issues as it harvests waste CO2 and chemically reduces it to more useful forms. However, the high overpotential required for the reaction makes it electrochemically unfavorable. Here, we fabricate a novel electrode composed of TiO2 nanoparticles grown in situ on MXene charge acceptor 2D sheets with excellent CO2RR characteristics. A straightforward solvothermal method was used to grow the nanoparticles on …
