During the COVID-19 pandemic, pharmacists have been one of the most accessible healthcare workers working in the frontline providing the medication and drug needs of patients. Their roles and responsibilities in work expanded and to some redefined as the pandemic hit. Adjustments in their work, and workplaces were also implemented in adherence to the pandemic situation. The quality of work life of frontline pharmacists were affected because of the changes brought by the pandemic. Identifying Older Adult Orthopedic Patients’ Learning Styles For Tailored Communication And Health Literacy, Alexis Flippen Von Zimmer

Pacific Journal of Health

Effective patient communication supports health literacy, treatment compliance, and health outcomes. This study examined whether older adult orthopedic patients’ learning style modality preferences differ from general population norms and characterized their multimodal communication preference profiles to inform tailored provider–patient interactions. Using the Barsch Learning Style Inventory (BLSI), 57 English-speaking male orthopedic patients (50+ years) in a semi-rural Northern California practice were assessed. Primary learning modality distributions (n = 50 with single primary preferences) differed significantly from the BLSI theoretical norms using an exact multinomial goodness-of-fit test (p = 0.048), with fewer auditory learners and more kinesthetic learners than expected. …

"Appalachian Pop Culture Fairs", Heather A. Lauer

This presentation explores the development, impact, and challenges of pop culture conventions in West Virginia and the implications on the broader Appalachian region. Through in-depth interviews with organizers of eight regional conventions—including HerdCon, Tsubasacon, Causeacon, and the Mothman Festival— Lauer examined the motivations behind organizing such events, the cultural and logistical hurdles faced, and the personal and communal rewards experienced by those involved. By investigating how these events foster community, promote regional tourism, and provide inclusive spaces for fandoms, the presentation highlights the importance of pop culture in shaping identity and engagement in rural Appalachia. Time-Dependent Radiation Induced Conductivity Of Polyimide: Effects Of Dose Rate And Temperature On Dynamic Ric, Tyler Heggenes, Jenny R. Whiteley, Jodie Gillespie, Jr Dennison

Radiation induced conductivity (RIC) can impact charge dissipation within highly insulating materials used in spacecraft in harsh space plasma environments. Previous Utah State University (USU) research analyzed only the equilibrium portions of an extensive RIC database for polymeric materials, including Kapton HN (Trademark). This confirmed that equilibrium RIC follows a standard theoretical model that is temperature and dose rate dependent. The current study provides a new analysis of RIC’s time-dependent behavior of the Kapton HN data from this database. With the onset of radiation, the material response is characterized by an exponential increase in conductivity, while a hyperbolic inverse time-dependent …

UNK Archives and Special Collections has been required to pack and move their holdings no fewer than four times in the past two and a half years. In late 2022, work began to pack and move the holdings of UNK’s Archives and Special Collections in advance of a 2-year multi-phase renovation of the Library building. Organization was maintained via a carefully curated numbering system and associated spreadsheet. Access was challenging throughout and reference services significantly limited while collections were in temporary storage. The collection returned to the partially renovated archival stacks in late 2023. Unfortunately, problems were immediately apparent. A …
