Behavioral Inhibition And Cognitive Control In An Emotional Go/No-Go Task, Amanda Burns
Locus: The Seton Hall Journal of Undergraduate Research
Behavioral inhibition is a temperamental tendency associated with heightened risk for developing anxiety disorders. Individuals with behaviorally inhibited temperament tend to avoid or withdraw from novel situations, which may be associated with prefrontal cortical activation related to cognitive control. The purpose of this study is to investigate how behavioral inhibition influences cognitive control using an emotional Go/No-go task. Participants completed the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI-Y) which assesses feelings of anxiousness, and the Adult Measure of Behavioral Inhibition, which measures behaviorally inhibited temperament. Participants then completed an emotional Go/No-go task utilizing neutral and negative stimuli and asking participants to quickly respond …

Phytophthora species are of global importance (Sinclair and Lyon, 2005). For most Phytophthora species, the natural mechanism of how these pathogens travel and spread long distances is not fully understood. They are have been shown to travel by air, water, nursery stock, and via inadvertent human transport. The purpose of this study was to identify the presence of Phytophthora species in four different Northern California forest/wildland soil types. Soils from Franciscan complex parent material (riparian, mixed conifer, and oak woodland), and serpentine parent material (mixed conifer) were sampled in Humboldt County (Fig 1). The focus of this project is to size the wing structure of HEX-1 to withstand the aerodynamic loadings that result from Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP) effects and blown lift. Furthermore, the design must be able to pass electricity and fuel through the wing structure without compromising the structural integrity. To analyze and size the wing, idealized wing analysis was performed by hand, coupled with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate results. Trainer aircraft present a unique fuel efficiency issue – the aircraft will almost never fly at its most efficient configuration simply due to the nature of pilot training. Akriveia Aerospace is focused on the design of a high strength and efficient structure to accommodate the small size of Akriveia Aerospace’s Accipiter aircraft while ensuring the structure’s ability to sustain the required loadings. Emphasis is placed on wing spar, fuselage bulkhead, bulkhead-to-spar bracket, skin, and spar web sizing; as well as the fasteners used to join the structural components. The Accipiter was inspired based on historical and modern fighter/interceptor aircraft, such as the F-16 Fighting Falcon and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Conversations With Hsls:09: Reflections On College-Going By Black Queer And Trans Scholars, Dion T. Harry, Quortne R. Hutchings, Christopher Sewell, Lorae Bonamy-Lohve, Taylor R. Lewis
Journal of Queer and Trans Studies in Education
This paper threads together quantitative data on Black QT students from the HSLS:09 data set, while connecting the authors' lived experiences about the college-going process. According to this data, Black QT high school students were heavily influenced by parents and peers and less influenced by school counselors and teachers regarding decisions about college and post-high school trajectories. In response, we engage in collaborative autoethnography (CAE) to center our narratives as Black QT people by threading our commonalities and differences to highlight what tensions and connections emerged from our experiences with the college-going process to add context to the aforementioned data.

Microclimatic Conditions In Shulgan-Tash Cave (Southern Ural, Russia): Implications For The Preservation Of Eastern Europe’S Largest Paleolithic Art Collection, Olga Chervyatsova, Rayan Akhmedyanovb, Nailya Saifullina, Ludmila Kuzmina, Mihael Kotov, Yuri Dublyansky
International Journal of Speleology
This study presents the results of a long-term investigation of the microclimatic conditions in Shulgan-Tash Cave (Southern Urals, Russia), which hosts the largest assemblage of Upper Paleolithic paintings (ca. 16.3–19.6 ka) in Eastern Europe. The cave exhibits two distinct seasonal ventilation regimes – winter and summer – differentially influence its two levels of galleries. In the Lower Level, which contains 83% of the images, near-atmospheric CO2 concentrations persist year-round, and temperature variations associated with seasonal infiltration events are minimal (1.0–1.3°C). By contrast, the Upper Level, including the decorated Hall of Paintings, is affected by downdrafts of CO2-rich …

The aviation industry has significant negative impacts on the environment through greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution. As small passenger aircraft tend to have more emissions per passenger mile than larger aircraft, this project aims to design a new hybrid-electric propulsion aircraft to be an innovative environmentally conscious option for short-range, limited-passenger flights. This project focuses on the design of the wing structure to increase fatigue resistance and lessen the shear force across the skin of the wings, while maintaining the structure’s stability and soundness. The designed wing structure will be optimized to account for the proposed weight and endurance of the aircraft. The overall wing shape and size was defined using preliminary design methods and optimized for efficiency at Mach 0.9. This project focuses on designing the wing structure of an interceptor aircraft to withstand sustained supersonic flight and provide sufficient fuel storage for extended operations. The aircraft and structure were designed according to the AIAA Homeland Defense Interceptor request for proposal (RFP).
