Predictors Of Metabolic Response In Propensity-Matched Lymphoma Patients On Interim 18f-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron-Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography Using Standardized Imaging And Reporting Protocol: Do We Really Have One?, Nosheen Fatima, Maseeh Uz Zaman, Areeba Zaman, Unaiza Zaman, Rabia Tehseen, Sidra Zaman Apr 2019

Predictors Of Metabolic Response In Propensity-Matched Lymphoma Patients On Interim 18f-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron-Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography Using Standardized Imaging And Reporting Protocol: Do We Really Have One?, Nosheen Fatima, Maseeh Uz Zaman, Areeba Zaman, Unaiza Zaman, Rabia Tehseen, Sidra Zaman

Department of Radiology

The purpose of this prospective study was to determine metabolic response predictor(s) in propensity-matched patients having lymphomas who had baseline and interim 18fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron-emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) using strict standardized imaging and reporting protocols. This prospective study was conducted at PET/CT section of a JCI-accredited healthcare facility from April 2017 to February 2018. Patients with baseline and interim 18FDG PET/CT scans using standardized protocol were selected. Interim scans were performed not earlier than 2nd or later than 4th chemotherapy. During the study period, 97 of 112 consecutive patients with lymphomas (Hodgkin-HL: 32/97 and Non-Hodgkin-NHL: 65/97) were included in the …

Frequency Of Severity Of Disability In Patients With Grade Iii Lumbar Neural Foraminal Stenosis On Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Qazi Saad, Raza Sayani, Muhammad Zeeshan, Shahbaz Alam

Department of Radiology

Background Low back pain is a common condition and carries substantial socioeconomic implications. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the imaging modality of choice with lumbar neural foraminal stenosis being one of the most common causes of lower back pain syndromes. Studies have shown a lack of correlation between patients' severity of disability and radiologically determined nerve root constriction. Therefore, the goal of this study will be to determine the frequency of severity of disability in patients with severe (i.e., grade III) lumbar neural foraminal stenosis on MRI to ascertain the impact of MRI diagnosis on clinical outcomes. Materials and methods …

What Can We Learn From Adult Esl Students’ Responses To Children’S Literature?, Monique C. Stone Apr 2019

What Can We Learn From Adult Esl Students’ Responses To Children’S Literature?, Monique C. Stone

Language, Literacy, and Sociocultural Studies ETDs

Some teachers face frequently changing populations of students, making it difficult to gain cultural knowledge that is important to support student learning. The aim of this study was to explore how adult language-learner students in intensive English programs (IEPs) respond to children’s picture books portraying their home countries or cultures. Reader response theory (Rosenblatt, 1995) and cultural scaffolding (Gay, 2002; i.e., the use of student culture to support student learning) are the initial frameworks upon which the study was developed. The study was qualitative in nature and driven by a desire for the researcher to gain more cultural knowledge about …

Settling In The Shadow Of Sex: Gender Bias In Marital Asset Division, Jennifer Bennett Shinall Apr 2019

Settling In The Shadow Of Sex: Gender Bias In Marital Asset Division, Jennifer Bennett Shinall

Cardozo Law Review

Divorce has a long history of economically disempowering women. From the time of coverture to the era of modern divorce reform, women have been persistently disadvantaged by divorce relative to men. Family law scholars have long attributed this disadvantage to the continued prevalence of traditional gender roles and the failure of current marital asset division laws to account adequately for this prevalence. In spite of the progress made by the women's movement over the past half-century, married, heterosexual women endure as the primary caretaker in the majority of households, and married, heterosexual men endure as the primary breadwinners. Undoubtedly, women …

Review Of A Crooked River: Rustlers, Rangers, And Regulars On The Lower Rio Grande, George T. Díaz

History Faculty Publications

Michael L. Collins’s A Crooked River is a continuation of his book Texas Devils: Rangers and Regulars on the Lower Rio Grande (University of Oklahoma Press, 2010). Where his earlier book examined conflict on the lower Rio Grande from the U.S. invasion in 1846 to 1861, Crooked River considers the region from the U.S. Civil War through the end of Reconstruction. Collins provides a history of the region in the midst of upheaval and focuses particularly on “lawlessness” and violent policing (5). The book’s self-stated goal is to provide “the story Walter Prescott Webb never told” [End Page 471] (12), …

Wooden Planks: A Tool For Youth Science, Technology, Engineering, And Math Exploration, Harriet Shaklee, Diane Demarest Apr 2019

Wooden Planks: A Tool For Youth Science, Technology, Engineering, And Math Exploration, Harriet Shaklee, Diane Demarest

Journal of Extension

Wooden planks are a tool for developing youth skills through science, technology, engineering, and math exploration. These are small planks that can be stacked to create complex structures as youths explore math and physical relationships in an applied context. Building with wooden planks also cultivates planning, reasoning, and team skills as youths design and build structures. We developed an event in which adult and youth teams competed to build structures from wooden planks. Our Building Challenge proved to be effective in cultivating youth–adult engagement and expanding Extension's reach to new audiences while also raising funds for youth programs.

Recruitment And Onboarding Resources For Extension In The West, Sam Angima, Jan B. Carroll Apr 2019

Recruitment And Onboarding Resources For Extension In The West, Sam Angima, Jan B. Carroll

Journal of Extension

Recruitment and retention of competent Extension professionals is a priority for ensuring that Extension remains relevant in communities. Extension program leaders in the West have developed an online resource to support recruiting and onboarding of new Extension professionals. Components of the resource include summaries and short videos featuring Extension professionals from throughout the region discussing Extension work, Extension's history, community relationships, professional expectations, and program assessment. These elements are intended to support each state's recruiting and mentoring programs and to foster a more cohesive approach across Extension for recruitment, onboarding, retention, and program assessment.

Assessing The Social Media Use And Needs Of Small Rural Retailers: Implications For Extension Program Support, Jihyeong Son, Linda S. Niehm, Daniel W. Russell, Juyoung Lee

Journal of Extension

To assess small rural retailers' use of social media and the role of social media in their business sustainability, we conducted focus group interviews with small business owners/managers from rural communities in a midwestern state. Participants revealed strong interest in social media, especially for use in sales and marketing. However, their engagement in social media was limited due to lack of knowledge and resources (i.e., time, human resources, financial resources, effectiveness measurement) related to developing and updating content. On the basis of these findings, we examine implications for Extension professionals and outreach educators regarding social media needs and programming for …
