Folia Medica Indonesiana

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a pathogenic bacterium that has been resistant to various types of antibiotics, so it is not easy to be treated with antibiotics and needs other solutions. Javanese citronella oil distilled from the Cymbopogon nardus plant is proven to function as an antibacterial agent (bacteriostatic and bactericidal), fungicide and repellent. This study aimed to prove that there is a positive correlation between bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects with antibiofilm and anticolony spreading from Javanese citronella oil on MRSA. The intended antibiofilm is a barrier to biofilm formation and eradication. Bacteriostatic and antibiofilm effects were tested using microtiter …

Disease Free Survival Of Stage I Endometrial Cancer After Surgery With Or Without Adjuvant Treatment, Woraluk Moradokkasem, Nungrutai Saeaib, Tippawan Liabsuetrakul

Folia Medica Indonesiana

This study aimed to define the disease free survival (DFS) and factors associated with recurrence in stage I endometrial cancer after surgery with and without adjuvant treatment. The demographic data, pathological results, adjuvant treatment (AT) and the outcome of patients with endometrial cancer stage I after surgery in Songklanagarind Hospital between January 2002 and July 2014 were collected. The DFS was analyzed by survival analysis and represented by Kaplan–Meier curves. The difference of DFS between AT and non-adjuvant treatment (NAT) groups was tested by the log-rank test. Distributions of risk factors by AT and recurrent status were analyzed using chi-square …

Lactate Level As A Prediction Factor Of Reperforation After Repairing Gastric Perforation, Vicky Sumarki Budipramana Mar 2019

Lactate Level As A Prediction Factor Of Reperforation After Repairing Gastric Perforation, Vicky Sumarki Budipramana

Folia Medica Indonesiana

Reperforation after gastric perforation repair is a complication which increases the rate of morbidity and mortality in gastric perforation. The lack of ability of the tissue to use oxygen in septic condition causes anaerobic cellular metabolism and furthermore it will cause failure in closing the perforation. The production of anaerobic metabolism is lactic acid which can be measured from the blood. The aim of this study is to determine the cut-off point of blood lactate level as a predictor of reperforation after repairing gastric perforation. Forty-six patients diagnosed as gastric perforation, who were repaired in Dr Soetomo Hospital from October …

Thrombocytopenia In A Patient Undergoing Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, Yudi Her Oktaviono, Feranti Meuthia

Folia Medica Indonesiana

Thrombocytopenia is a common abnormality in patients presenting with acute coronary syndrome. Baseline thrombocytopenia in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention is associated with early adverse events, related to both ischemia and bleeding. Treatment for acute coronary syndrome usually involves antiplatelet, anticoagulant, antithrombotic therapy, and the performance of percutaneous coronary intervention. The safety of antiplatelet therapy and percutaneous coronary intervention patients who have acute coronary syndrome and thrombocytopenia is unknown, and there are no guidelines or randomized studies that specifically suggest a treatment approach in such patients. One of the institutions in Italy recommends medical and …

Assessment Of The Rapid Immunochromatographic Test As A Diagnostic Tool For Norovirus Related Diarrhea In Children, Reza Gunadi Ranuh, Alpha Fardah Athiyyah, Deanty Ayu Pa, Andy Darma, Dadik Raharjo, Toshiro Shirakawa, Subijanto Marto Sudarmo

Folia Medica Indonesiana

In developing countries, Norovirus is the second-leading cause of acute diarrhea, after rotavirus. The approved gold standard method for diagnosis of norovirus infection is RT-PCR. The rapid immunochromatographic test is a novel and expedient method for diagnosing norovirus that is relatively affordable. However, the use of the rapid immunochromatographic test remains controversial because of its accuracy. This study aimed to explore whether the rapid immunochromatographic test could be used for diagnosing norovirus-related diarrhea in children. Rapid immunochromatographic test (QuickNaviTM-Norovirus2) and RT-PCR on stool samples was used to diagnose norovirus. Stool samples were obtained from pediatric patients aged between 1 and …

The Effect Of Hypercholesterolemia On Cortical Bone Thickness Of Wistar Rats (Rattus Norvegicus), Auliya Dzaqiyatus Sofka, Pudji Lestari, Gadis Meinar Sari

Folia Medica Indonesiana

There have been several studies reporting the effect of hypercholesterolemia on cortical thickness, but it remains a controversy. Some studies suggest that hypercholesterolemia can decrease osteoblast activity and increase osteoclast activity. Meanwhile other studies suggest that hypercholesterolemia is a protective factor of osteoporosis. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a study to determine the effect of hypercholesterolemia on cortical bone thickness. Method: This study used 8 rats (Rattus norvegicus) that were divided into 2 groups, including control group (K0) that was given standard diet and experimental group (K1) that was given high fat diet for 28 days and all were …

The existence of online taxis cannot be avoided any more, due to technological developments. Concrete and asphalt are the primary materials used to construct roadways for motor vehicles, bike paths for pedestrians and bicyclists, and runways for aircraft. Solar Roadways®, Inc. (SR) in Sandpoint, ID, proposed using robust, Solar Road Panels (SRPs) as an alternative roadway material due to the potential for creating a modular, multi-functional infrastructure product with cost-savings, user-safety, power-generation, and a better alternative in terms of environmental sustainability when compared to contemporary pavement materials. Typical roadway construction materials, on average, need to be replaced every 10-15 years while also requiring regular annual maintenance to maintain proper safety standards. SR’s novel roadway …

ATP-Binding Cassette (ABC) Transporters are a superfamily of integral membrane proteins that have been found embedded in both the cellular membranes and internal organelles of all species yet analyzed (1). This extreme conservation throughout the tree of life is due to their vitally critical and broad task of transporting all manner of things into and out of the cell and related organelles. This broadness of responsibility has led to an abundant diversity of this family, which in turn, has allowed life to adapt to the many environments found on Earth. While the importance and variability of this family is abundantly …
