Tobacco consumption remains a major public health concern in Bangladesh, where adult males represent the most affected group. Despite existing bans on public smoking, cultural norms, media influence, and limited awareness continue to sustain high prevalence. The objective of this study was to examine the socio-demographic determinants of tobacco use among Bangladeshi men, focusing on regional variation, education, media exposure, and family influence. A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 275 adult males in Dhaka Division using a structured questionnaire. Abdominal obesity is a condition characterized by excessive fat accumulation in the abdominal region, which can increases the risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases. In 2023, Riau Islands Province recorded the highest prevalence of abdominal obesity in the island of Sumatra, at 42.5%. This study aimed to analyze the determinants of abdominal obesity among adults aged 19–44 years in Riau Islands Province based on gender, using secondary data from the 2023 Indonesia Health Survey (SKI). The prevalence of chronic energy deficiency (CED) among pregnant women in Indonesia remains relatively high, ranging from 11.6% to 57.6%. This study aimed to examine the differences in the proportion of CED based on macronutrient intake and related factors. The study used a quantitative cross-sectional design with secondary data involving 124 pregnant women in selected areas served by community health centers in Bogor City and Regency. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. CED prevalence was 11.3% in the overall areas, with 10.9% in Bogor City and 11.7% in Bogor Regency. Obesity is a major risk factor for chronic diseases and early mortality. Although dietary counseling is essential in managing obesity, maintaining a calorie deficit and preventing weight regain remain difficult. Functional foods like high-protein, high-fiber meal replacements may enhance adherence and support weight loss. This randomized controlled trial evaluated the subjective outcomes of a weight loss program incorporating a protein- and fiber-enriched meal replacement among 73 overweight women aged 20–30 years. Jackfruit seeds and pigeon peas are sources of protein, complex carbohydrates, and bioactive compounds. This study aimed to analyze macronutrient content, antioxidant activity, and organoleptic quality of jackfruit seeds and pigeon pea flour snack bars. Malnutrition continues to threaten child health globally, with Thailand mirroring this trend: in 2022, 12.4% of children under five were stunted, 7.2% wasted, and 10.9% obese. While the country’s First 1,000 Days initiative—targeting pregnancy to age two—yielded early success in reducing undernutrition, emerging gaps among 3–5-year-olds prompted a policy shift toward a broader 2,500-day framework. This Note addresses the ongoing debate over fluoridation: the regulation of fluoride levels in public water systems. Extensive research indicates fluoridation, when regulated at the recommended concentration, is both safe and highly effective in preventing dental caries. Better known as cavities, dental caries is a preventable yet widespread health issue that disproportionately affects low-income populations. Reducing dental health disparities among economic classes is a pressing public health issue. The Americans with Disabilities Act has required equal access to jury service for decades; however, efforts to accommodate jurors with disabilities have been slow to develop beyond some minor accommodations for physical disabilities. While neurodivergent people frequently struggle to navigate a world catered toward neurotypical people, jury service remains inaccessible for many neurodivergent people who need accommodations to attend trial and engage in jury deliberations. If courts and advocates do not consider how to develop accommodations to secure the service of neurodivergent jurors, they will miss out on the unique skillsets that neurodivergent people can bring to resolving disputes.

Background/Objectives: Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a frequent and serious complication following left ventricular assist device (LVAD) implantation. This study aimed to predict AKI within 90 days post-LVAD by evaluating urinary levels of vitamin D binding protein (VDBP) and kidney injury molecule-1 (KIM-1).

Methods: We prospectively enrolled 29 advanced heart failure patients undergoing LVAD implantation and categorized them into four groups based on pre-LVAD kidney function and hemodynamic stability. Early-morning urine samples were collected 24 h before and 1 week after surgery. Urinary VDBP and KIM-1 levels, normalized to creatinine, were measured.

The subpolar North Atlantic (SPNA) is one of the few regions where the deep ocean is in direct contact with the atmosphere, making it a key location for interior ocean ventilation through gas exchange. We use a novel observation-based data product to analyze large-scale patterns of the air-sea flux of oxygen, finding a mean annual flux of 48.1 (Formula presented.) 14.6 Tmol (Formula presented.) from the atmosphere into the ocean integrated over the SPNA ((Formula presented.) Women With Persistent Atrial Fibrillation Need More Than Pulmonary Vein Isolation: Personalised Extra-Pulmonary Vein Ablation Strategy Vs. Pulmonary Vein Isolation Alone In The Tailored-Af Trial, Isabel Deisenhofer, Daniel H Cooper, Et Al.

AIMS: There is still conflicting evidence if women with persistent atrial fibrillation (AF) profit from a pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) plus strategy. We evaluated the efficacy of a spatio-temporal dispersion-targeted ablation strategy in women from the TAILORED-AF trial.

METHODS AND RESULTS: In TAILORED-AF, 370 patients were randomised to either a personalised, artificial intelligence (AI)-guided tailored ablation or to PVI-only. AF substrate mapping data and 12-month ablation outcomes were compared between women and men. Overall, 21% patients were female (70.4 ± 6.9 vs. 64.5 ± 8.5 years for men, P < 0.001). While spatio-temporal dispersion extent was similar between groups, left atrial low-voltage surface area (< 0.2 mV) was significantly larger in women (P < 0.01). In women, the single-procedure freedom from AF (76% vs. 50%, log-rank P < 0.001) and any atrial arrhythmia (56% vs. 38%, log-rank P < 0.05) were significantly superior to PVI alone with a tailored procedure. In the PVI-only group, the single-procedure freedom from AF (50% vs. 70%, log-rank P < 0.001) and any atrial arrhythmia (38% vs. 61%, log-rank P < 0.001) were significantly lower in women. After a tailored ablation, no significant differences were observed between women and men regarding freedom from AF (76% vs. 91%, log-rank P = 0.07) or any atrial arrhythmia (56% vs. 62%, log-rank P = 0.69) free survival.

The four-dimensional structure of temperature and salinity}from the ocean surface to the seabed}is a critical factor influencing acoustic transmission properties. Modern numerical ocean modeling systems consist of three primary components: ocean observations, a numerical forecasting model, and a data assimilation system. Of the tens of millions of global ocean observations assimilated daily, the majority derive from satellite-based surface measurements. Background: Pediatric non-Down Syndrome Acute Megakaryoblastic Leukemia (non-DS-AMKL) is a rare subtype of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) arising from primitive megakaryocytes and is associated with poor outcomes. Given its high incidence of relapse, this subpopulation of children is frequently referred for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (allo-HSCT) in first complete remission (CR1).

Objectives: The objective of this study was to describe the clinical outcomes of non-DS-AMKL pediatric patients in a large, single-institution cohort.

Methods: A retrospective review of the medical records of thirty-six patients diagnosed with non-DS-AMKL treated at Texas Children's Hospital from 2000 to 2022 was conducted.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most prevalent malignancies globally and is the leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide. Advanced and metastatic CRC is associated with poor prognosis due to high rates of metastases and resistance to standard therapies. With the advent of next-generation sequencing, there has been increased interest in molecularly targeted treatments. Variants in SLC6A1 result in a rare neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by a variable clinical presentation of symptoms including developmental delay, epilepsy, motor dysfunction, and autism spectrum disorder. SLC6A1 haploinsufficiency has been confirmed as the predominant pathway of SLC6A1-related neurodevelopmental disorder (SLC6A1-NDD); however, the molecular mechanism underlying the variable clinical presentation remains unclear. Here, through work of the Undiagnosed Diseases Network, we identify an individual with an inherited p.A334S variant of uncertain significance. Exploration environments expose individuals and teams to prolonged uncertainty, physical risk, and cognitive strain. Despite advances in expedition technology and logistics, psychological preparation for extreme environments remains comparatively underdeveloped. This presentation introduces the concept of exploration psychology as an applied framework for preparing individuals and teams to function effectively in high-risk and unpredictable expedition contexts. Drawing on research from performance psychology, stress physiology, and cognitive science, the talk outlines how psychological mechanisms underlying fear, attention, and decision-making influence behaviour in extreme environments. Embryonic Transcription Factors (TFs) are often reactivated in cancer, driving developmental gene programs that support phenotypic plasticity. Metabolic adaptation fuels this plasticity by supplying energy and molecular building blocks for growth. RUNX2, the master regulator of bone morphogenesis, is ectopically expressed in epithelial cancer, promoting metastasis through trans-differentiation processes like Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) and osteomimicry. By combining omics data with functional validation, we demonstrated that RUNX2 drives cancer cell metabolic rewiring by repressing mitochondrial respiration while promoting anabolic processes. How microtubules (MTs) are generated in the proper orientation is essential to understanding how the cytoskeleton organizes a cell and MT-dependent events such as cell division. In the spindle, most MTs are generated through the branching MT nucleation pathway. In this pathway, new MTs are nucleated from the side of existing MTs and oriented at a shallow angle by the branching factor augmin, ensuring that both MTs have the same polarity. Looking back at my first semester, I’ve made some truly fond memories. Starting off with an amazing group of people in the program and going on our retreat helped me find a community I could rely on. This community has remained by my side, even during challenging times, and for that, I’ll always be grateful. Whether it was tackling escape rooms or being part of First Year Seminar, the first-gen community has shown itself to be incredibly strong and tightly connected.
