Creating An Outreach Story: Assessment Results, Strategic Planning, And Reflection, Rosan Mitola, Amy Wainwright Apr 2019

Creating An Outreach Story: Assessment Results, Strategic Planning, And Reflection, Rosan Mitola, Amy Wainwright

Library Faculty Research

Academic library outreach and student engagement initiatives often strive to connect students to learning spaces, resources, and experts. Librarians do this work to raise awareness of services and to remove barriers so students feel more comfortable seeking help. Additionally, these activities promote the academic library as a hub of engagement, innovation, and continual learning to various user groups. Unfortunately, because these learning experiences can often be unique or serendipitous, measuring how these efforts are contributing to the library’s teaching, learning, and research missions can be difficult. This paper focuses on how academic librarians can align their outreach to strategic goals …

“Sankofa Past, Present And Future” Immigration Patterns And Contributions Of Immigrants To The U.S Economy, Oluremi Alapo

Publications and Research

Immigrants migrate to the United States for various reasons - legally and illegally. Some for purposes such as education, economic opportunities, political asylum, while others simply choose to migrate for a change of environment. Franzee (2018) discussed some myths and facts about immigrants and the overall impact of their contributions to the United States economy. Historically, the United States experienced major waves of immigration patterns from Africa and its diaspora. The contributions of Africa and its diaspora to the United States economy are often overlooked largely in part by Africans and the African diaspora itself. This research examines the current …

Hesitations Of Co-Teaching In Public Education: A Meta-Synthesis, Paul School Apr 2019

Hesitations Of Co-Teaching In Public Education: A Meta-Synthesis, Paul School

Special Education Masters Program Theses

Although federally mandated, co-teaching and inclusion are not a common practice in the public-school setting. Special education can be very different depending on the building, teacher, population of students and district. Universal design was created to allow all programs and curriculum to be adapted to meet the needs of children in special education so they can access the general education classroom and learning materials. Many schools still have a special education classrooms where children in special education go to receive their education. In an ideal co-teaching model, both the general education and special education teacher would work together to provide …

Planting The Seeds To Examine Food Security Challenges In The Alaska Food-Energy-Water Nexus, Jennifer I. Schmidt

ISER Presentations

What is the Food-Energy-Water Nexus? It is the relationship between the energy that is used to clean and treat water and to grow food. It is also the recognition that it takes water to grow food and produce electrical power, and that it takes food to power us all to keep these systems running. This set of relationships can be considered at different scales including the "micro" that is most characteristic of small island communities in Alaska. This presentation was delivered at the Alaska Food Policy Council 2019 Festival and Conference.

Trends In Atlantic Salmon Markets And Implications For Bristol Bay Salmon Markets, Gunnar Knapp Apr 2019

Trends In Atlantic Salmon Markets And Implications For Bristol Bay Salmon Markets, Gunnar Knapp

ISER Presentations

World salmon markets are dominated by farmed Atlantic salmon. As farmed salmon production has grown, Bristol Bay sockeye salmon has become an ever-smaller share of world salmon supply. Norway and Chile are by far the largest producers of farmed salmon, followed by the UK and Canada. Historically, year-over-year changes in US monthly imports have been inversely correlated with year-over-year changes in prices. What explains changes over time in the price premium or discount of sockeye relative to competing farmed salmon? Looking at the relationship between price and supply changes, we conclude that the market is able to absorb 6-7% more …
