Female germ cells must preserve the integrity of their genome and generate genetic diversity via meiotic recombination. This challenging process is error prone. Highly conserved checkpoint pathways detect errors in recombination and DNA damage, inducing the death of defective oocytes. Nuclear Envelope Membrane Protein (NEMP) homologs are highly conserved proteins critical for fertility in flies, worms, fish and mice. They localize to the inner nuclear envelope where they provide mechanical support. However, why NEMP homologs are specifically required for fertility is still unclear. Using both Drosophila and mouse models, we establish that loss of NEMP homologs leads to activation of …
An Examination Of Spatial Structure In The Faunal Composition Of Mesopelagic Fish Assemblages Across The Open-Ocean Gulf Of Mexico, Including Possible Transitions Near The Oceanic Rim, Bianca Ruiz
All HCAS Student Capstones, Theses, and Dissertations
The Gulf of Mexico harbors a unique pelagic ecoregion, recognized for its diverse assemblages of mesopelagic fishes (200 – 1000 m depth distribution during daytime), which play a crucial role in deep-ocean food web dynamics. While mesopelagic fishes are well documented in the Gulf, little is known about how assemblage distribution patterns change where the oceanic domain meets the continental slope domain, a region dubbed the ‘oceanic rim.’ In the northern and eastern Gulf, a spatially extensive pelagic sampling and analysis program provides an opportunity to investigate onshore-offshore gradients in oceanic fish distributions. This thesis examined the nature of surficial …

Regulatory Innovation Through Authority: An Analysis Of India’S Central Consumer Protection Authority’S Functioning (2020–2025), Gaurav Pathak, Mohit Yadav, Anush Ganesh
International Journal on Consumer Law and Practice
This article presents the first comprehensive empirical analysis of India’s Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA), since its establishment in 2020, based on an examination of 165 orders across 118 cases through 2025. The study fills a critical research gap by systematically analysing CCPA’s enforcement patterns, procedural efficiency, and regulatory evolution. The unique dataset reveals that CCPA has fundamentally transformed India’s consumer protection landscape through a distinctive dual approach that combines reactive enforcement with proactive regulation. This study finds that 72 per cent of cases were initiated suo moto, indicating a paradigm shift from complaint-driven to preventive market surveillance and that …

Habitual entrepreneurs are a key driver of economic development. Hence, it is important to generate a more detailed understanding of their addictive behaviour while running their businesses.
