In this article, we offer what we call ‘a feminist geo-legal reading’ of documents used in spaces and practices of law. Legal cases and decisions are often based on different legal and non-legal documents, including laws, explanatory memorandums, testimonies, medical reports, and so forth. In contemporary asylum adjudication, country-of-origin information reports (COIs) have become a crucial source of authoritative evidence as asylum officers and immigration judges use these reports in their determination of a person's need for and right to protection. However, there is no straight line from COIs' substance to the prevailing authority that they command within asylum adjudication. …

The article examines a Beirut-based network of self-funded, independent musicians that translate memories and their emotions into artistic and activist practices. Drawing on musical albums created since the 2020 Beirut port explosion, the article explores the social and emotional impact of artist-run spaces for music production. Focusing on a friendship-based network around the collectively-run recording studio Tunefork Studios, it examines how care, trust, and solidarity with Lebanon’s citizens and music producers are translated into both their creative practices and their production and distribution strategies. This article examines the role of the SoundCloud platform in building careers for independent rappers and producers in the Middle East, particularly in Jordan and Palestine. Based on an ethnographic survey conducted between Amman and Jerusalem, the author analyses how artists use this platform to make themselves known, distribute their music, and navigate a digitized musical ecosystem. The study draws on Popular Music Studies and studies of digital platforms to examine three main areas.

The competency of clinical judgment in new nurses leading to safe practice has declined. The integrated clinical education theory posits discourse with meaningful feedback between nurse educators and pre-licensure students during clinical experiences enhances the development of clinical judgment. A study examined the job barriers, supports, satisfaction, and preparation programs of Texas school social workers (TSSW). The study used a convergent parallel mixed method design to compare and discuss quantitative and qualitative data obtained through a survey emailed to 476 Texas school social workers. Data was gathered from 250 social workers. The findings highlight the need to better understand the role of TSSWs and improve university social work preparation programs. The implications of this study’s findings on TSSW work barriers and supports and preparation programs can create major improvements to the preparation, job definition, and work environment of TSSWs, …

Teacher Inexperience And Student Exclusionary Discipline Consequences At Texas Large-Size High Schools, William Thompson, Cynthia Martinez-Garcia, John R. Slate

In this statewide, multiyear investigation, the relationship between teacher inexperience levels and student discipline assignments into in-school suspension, out-of-school suspension, and DAEP at Texas high school campuses with an enrollment of 2,000 or more students was addressed. An analysis of each discipline placement was conducted for the 2016-2017, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019 school years. Statistical analyses revealed the presence of relationships between teacher inexperience and student disciplinary consequence assignments. Students were more likely to be assigned to an exclusionary discipline consequence when higher percentages of inexperienced teachers were present than when higher percentages of experienced teachers were present. This phenomenological study explores how teacher leaders (TLs) perceive the impact and recognition of their voices within a high-performing suburban high school. Despite their pivotal role in shaping instruction and school culture, TLs often feel their insights are undervalued, particularly by district-level administrators. Through in-depth interviews with ten formal and informal TLs, the research reveals a disconnect between TL input and policy implementation, with on-campus administrators more receptive but limited in authority. Findings highlight the importance of collaborative leadership structures, professional capital, and authentic engagement to empower TLs. Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR) is the capacity to honor the inherent worth of all persons, a practice increasingly applied to school leadership. While UPR fosters trust and dignity-based relationships, its sustained use within chronically under-resourced schools exacts a significant emotional toll. This study builds on prior research with Colorado school leaders who framed UPR as a “compass for relationships.” Using narrative inquiry with five leaders from the original cohort, this follow-up examined the emotional and psychological costs of leading with UPR. Free schools in the UK, like international ones, were established to promote autonomy, innovation, and diversity in education. This case study explores how one such school in the South of England, leveraged these freedoms to co-construct a distinctive and socially just curriculum. Data collected through semi-structured interviews and focus groups with school leaders, teachers, trustees, and parents was analysed thematically and revealed how leadership, curriculum design, and the hidden curriculum intersect to support holistic development, equity, and community cohesion. Particular attention is paid to how extended opportunities in the arts, sport, and enrichment activities contribute to cultural capital and wellbeing. …

Coffee shops in the United States typically offer several options of dairy milk and plant-based milk alternatives (PBMA) for espresso-based beverages. Although previous studies have explored consumer preferences for dairy or PBMA in general, none have examined what drives their milk or PBMA choices specifically in the context of coffee shops. This study aimed to identify key decision drivers for the choice of milks in coffee, assess the role of lactose-free preferences, and explore whether offering lactose-free cow milk would increase coffee shop visits. After a year-long evaluation, the Primo Research Assistant Team at SJSU Library decided to enable the AI tool within OneSearch. Our presentation will cover the evaluation process, including a responsible AI framework and insights from user testing involving library faculty, staff, and students. Our testing revealed that 78% of participants approved the tool, recognizing its potential to simplify initial research consultations and assist students with developing research questions. We will also discuss key takeaways, support resources, and future plans. The session will touch upon discussions regarding AI ethics, biases, misinformation, privacy, and environmental impact.

Evaluating The Use Of Statewide Summative Assessments In College Admissions: Insights From A Case Study, Yen Vo, Stephen Dunbar, Catherine Welch, Jeongmin Ji, Xiaoting Zhong

The impact of COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing discussions around social inequality have significantly reshaped traditional college admission practices. This study explores the potential of using statewide assessments that are accessible to all students and aligned with curriculum standards as an alternative to college admission tests. Hierarchical linear modeling further revealed that statewide assessment scores contributed an additional 9% of the variance in admission scores above and beyond high school GPA and core coursework. Logistic regression and random forest analyses indicated that high school GPA and statewide assessment scores were the most contributing factors to admissions decisions, followed by core coursework. …

We use foreign trade data on both imports and exports of goods and services among a group of 15 advanced economies to determine the incomes and price elasticities of demand for exports and imports of goods, services and goods and services combined in the long run. We find that changes in foreign and domestic income have, as expected, a positive long-run impact on the demand for exports and imports, respectively, with the impact of income changes being typically greater on the demand for services than on the demand for goods. Insect proteins, especially from Tenebrio molitor (TM), are emerging as sustainable alternatives to conventional proteins. This study aimed to design and evaluate TM-enriched food formulations for individuals with increased protein needs, assessing their nutritional, physicochemical, and sensory properties, and exploring feasibility. Two sensory evaluations were conducted using the Check-All-That-Apply (CATA) method. The first (CATA1) assessed the direct incorporation of TM powder (32 g/100 g) into a pasteurized dairy product (D) with hazelnut (DTM₁H), hazelnut–vanilla (DTM₁HV), or vanilla (DTM₁V) aroma.
