Social Media Sponsorship: Metrics And Strategies For Finding The Right Content Creator-Sponsor Matches, Shahryar Doosti, Stephanie Lee, Young Tan

Business Faculty Articles and Research

Social media video sponsorship, where sponsors partner with content creators to promote their brands, has become increasingly popular. Leveraging rich data on sponsored and nonsponsored videos on Facebook, we introduce two metrics, Content Similarity and Audience Closeness, to help sponsors find effective creator-sponsor matches. Content Similarity captures the thematic alignment between a creator’s content and a sponsor’s brand, whereas Audience Closeness measures how closely aligned a creator’s and sponsor’s audiences are within a social media network. We find that both metrics significantly increase video viewership, but their effects vary over time. Audience Closeness generates more immediate, short-term engagement, whereas …

Ai Mediation — Ethically Questionable?, Steven Nappi Nov 2025

Ai Mediation — Ethically Questionable?, Steven Nappi

Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution (CJCR) Blog

Artificial Intelligence (“AI”) is an imperative aspect of modern society. However, in the legal field, AI must be used with the utmost discretion. Earlier this year, an attorney from Utah used ChatGPT to create a brief which produced a case that does not exist. In response, the Utah Court of Appeals sanctioned the attorney. Nevertheless, at the 2025 ABA TECHSHOW, a legal tech startup launched an artificial intelligence mediator.

Evidently, an attorney cannot ethically use AI to write a brief defending their client in litigation. Yet, the underlying question remains: why should AI be replacing human mediators?

The print edition …

Developing Middle School Students’ Systems Thinking In Earth Science Through Dynamic Simulations: The Case Of The Rock Cycle, Nicole Panorkou, Amanda Provost, Gabriella Migliore Nov 2025

Developing Middle School Students’ Systems Thinking In Earth Science Through Dynamic Simulations: The Case Of The Rock Cycle, Nicole Panorkou, Amanda Provost, Gabriella Migliore

Department of Mathematics Faculty Scholarship and Creative Works

In this paper, we discuss the development of students’ systems thinking about the rock cycle as they interact with an instructional module that includes three interactive simulations and accompanying questioning. We present the reasoning of six students from a whole-class design experiment in a sixth-grade classroom to describe how students’ systems thinking may be constructed and reorganized through activity with our design. Our findings highlight a framework of students’ systems thinking about the rock cycle that builds and expands prior work to specific sub-components. We also discuss an emerging framework for supporting students’ systems thinking through careful design of simulation …

Hiding In Plain Sight, Evan Seeling Nov 2025

Hiding In Plain Sight, Evan Seeling

Theses

This thesis considers how perceptual, emotional, and behavioral patterns—often inherited, unnoticed, or obscured—can be revealed through the optical phenomena of glass. It connects visual experience with themes of grief, memory, and identity, using glass to explore the boundary between what is seen and what is felt. Through material investigations in refraction, reflection, and spatial arrangement, the studio research examines how glass can both obscure and reveal, echoing the instability of perception itself. These investigations, paired with a focus on viewer interaction, suggest that patterns hiding in plain sight become visible through intentional acts of perception and reflection.

Effects Of Yttrium And Barium Trace Impurities On The Dielectric Properties Of  Srtio3 (111) Single Crystals At Cryogenic Temperatures, Hung Trinh, Alan Devoe, Fatih Dogan

Materials Science and Engineering Faculty Research & Creative Works

Commercially available single crystals of (111) SrTiO3 were found to contain impurities of varying amounts that strongly affected their dielectric performance at cryogenic temperatures. Three crystals with total impurities of 111, 126, and 625 ppm, primarily of barium and yttrium, were analyzed. Relative permittivity (εr) and loss tangent were investigated with high resolution as a function of temperature (4 K to 100 K), DC voltage (0 V/cm to 800 V/cm), and frequency (100 Hz to 1 MHz). An impurity level as low as ≈500 ppm barium resulted in an increase of the maximum permittivity (εm) to approximately 50,000 at …

All Decisions

In this nonpayment proceeding, the tenant moved for summary judgment seeking to bar the landlord from collecting rent under MDL § 302-a due to a rent-impairing violation and asserting a harassment counterclaim. The court denied summary judgment on the MDL § 302-a claim, ruling that the tenant failed to conclusively prove that HPD mailed the notice of violation to the landlord, a material element of the defense. The harassment claim, based on the landlord's repeated failure to make repairs, was also denied as an issue of fact existed regarding the tenant's alleged refusal to provide access. The case was adjourned …

Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease and alcohol-associated liver disease frequently co-occur, manifesting as MetALD. Understanding the hepatocyte-specific effects of alcohol and metabolic stressors is critical to uncovering mechanisms of synergistic injury. This study evaluated the individual and combined effects of ethanol, sugars, and saturated/monounsaturated fats on hepatocyte lipid metabolism, oxidative stress, and mitochondrial function using a 3D human HepaRG spheroid model. HepaRG spheroids were treated with ethanol (50 mm), sugar (glucose and fructose), and fatty acids alone or in combination for 10 d. The combination of ethanol (E) and metabolic (sugar and fat, SF) stressors (ESF) synergistically increased triglyceride content …

PURPOSE: Targeted therapies for metastatic prostate cancer are limited, highlighting the need for novel drug targets and mechanisms of action (MoA). Human kallikrein 2 (KLK2) is a prostate-specific antigen expressed across the prostate cancer disease continuum. However, it was not recognized as a therapeutic target for prostate cancer in the past due to limited evidence of its cell surface expression. In this study, we systematically characterized KLK2 expression in prostate cancer, confirmed its cell surface expression, and demonstrated the preclinical efficacy of three KLK2-targeting therapeutics with distinct MoA.

EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN: The KLK2 expression profile in different stages of prostate cancer …

Developing Optogenetic Approaches To Study Ca2+ Signaling Processes, Tatsuki Nonomura, Xiaoxuan Liu, Megan Chiu, Zhi Tan, Tien-Hung Lan, Yubin Zhou

Faculty, Staff and Students Publications

Calcium ions (Ca2+) are essential second messengers intimately implicated in a variety of biological processes, ranging from short-term events such as muscle contraction to long-term effects like gene expression. Dysregulated Ca2+ signaling can disrupt cellular function and contribute to the development of various human diseases, including developmental, neurological, immunoinflammatory, metabolic, and cardiovascular disorders. To study the mechanisms and biological consequences of Ca2+ signaling, optogenetic approaches have proven invaluable, as they offer exceptional spatiotemporal resolution compared to traditional methods. Recent progress in non-opsin-based optogenetics, particularly those engineered from Ca2+ release–activated Ca2+ (CRAC) channels, has substantially advanced our understanding of Ca2+ signaling …

Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent cell death pathway that involves multiple genes, including the transferrin receptor (TFRC/CD71), glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) and cystine-glutamate antiporter (SLC7A11). This study is based on the hypothesis that orphan nuclear receptor 4A1 (NR4A1) and NR4A2 maintain low levels of ferroptosis in triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells and bis-indole derived (CDIM) compounds act as NR4A1/2 ligands that induce ferroptosis by enhancing CD71 expression. 1,1-Bis(3'-indolyl)-1-(3,5-disubstitutedphenyl)methane (DIM-3,5) analogs were investigated for their cytotoxicity and effects on NR4A1 and NR4A2 regulated genes and induction of ferroptosis. Several assays also determined enhanced lipoperoxidation, reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde formation in …

Expanding Ode Examples: Introducing Gene Regulation Dynamics Through Hill Functions, Maila Hallare, Jane M. Santamore

CODEE Journal

Gene regulation is a fundamental biological process that controls gene expression. It can explain phenomena such as cell differentiation, circadian rhythms, disease progression, and metabolic control, among many others. Despite their importance in mathematical biology, gene regulation models are rarely featured in traditional ODE textbooks, which focus mainly on examples from engineering, physics, chemistry, and population biology. This article introduces gene regulation dynamics as a valuable addition to ODE curricula, presenting the models from a mathematical perspective and building on properties of the Hill function. These models deepen the understanding of biology-inspired ODE applications, provide accessible research opportunities for students, …

Systematic Review Of Elementary Cybersecurity Education: Curriculum, Pedagogy, And Barriers, Na Liu, Siyu Long, Florence Martin

Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice

Abstract -As children increasingly engage with digital platforms, the need for effective cybersecurity education has become urgent. This systematic review synthesizes 81 studies published between 2017 and 2024 to examine global curricula research focus and topics, pedagogical approaches and assessment methods, and key challenges in elementary cybersecurity education. The findings reveal six major thematic categories: student awareness, parental mediation, teacher engagement, curriculum design, community and policy support, and pedagogical innovation. Among instructional strategies, game-based learning and narrative storytelling emerge as the most frequently explored. Despite this growth, major gaps remain in curriculum consistency, teacher preparation, assessment rigor, and stakeholder coordination. …

The Experience Of Administrative Burdens In Snap And Medicaid: New Evidence From A Nationally Representative Survey Of Low-Wage Workers, Stephen Roll, Mathieu Despard, Yung Chun

Center for Social Development Research

When functioning correctly, the U.S. social safety net ensures that everyone can reach a basic standard of living, regardless of economic circumstances, and provides financial support to help families who have fallen on hard times due to job losses or other adverse life events. However, the programs often have complex rules around eligibility, documentation requirements, and compliance. Those features and negative experiences with program staff impose psychological costs—collectively referred to as administrative burdens—that can make enrolling and staying in the programs difficult for many families. Drawing upon data from the Workforce Economic Inclusion and Mobility Survey of a nationally …

A Temperature-Sensitive Crispr-Cas12a System For Sterile Insect Technique, Christina Nguyen, Ahmed Idowu Omotayo, Sara Sanz Juste, Xuechun Feng, Víctor López Del Amo Nov 2025

A Temperature-Sensitive Crispr-Cas12a System For Sterile Insect Technique, Christina Nguyen, Ahmed Idowu Omotayo, Sara Sanz Juste, Xuechun Feng, Víctor López Del Amo

Faculty, Staff and Student Publications

The sterile insect technique (SIT) reduces population numbers by releasing sterile males that produce non-viable progeny. Specifically, CRISPR/Cas9-based precision-guided SIT (pgSIT) generates sterile males through genetic crosses of two transgenic lines: a Cas9 strain and a guide RNA (gRNA) strain targeting male sterility and female viability or infertility. However, pgSIT requires separate maintenance of the two lines and sorting to obtain sterile males, creating possible challenges for scaling. To overcome this, we propose using Cas12a nuclease, which is inoperative at lower temperatures but active at higher temperatures. Here, we develop a Cas12a-based pgSIT system involving a single strain containing both …

Chinese Women’S Rising Refusal Of The Family : The Problems, The Resistance, The Post-Family And Post-Capitalist Work Imaginaries, Peier Chen

Lingnan Theses (MPhil & PhD)

A new generation of Chinese women is questioning the family by examining internal contradictions in parent-child relationships, particularly in how intimacy and care are enacted, while also challenging the legitimacy of the family institution that underpins gendered divisions of labor and hierarchies. Some of them are revealing the problems within the family and refusing patriarchal marriage and family as their daily act of resistance. Their resistance extends beyond the family, into their workplaces, where gender division and hierarchies are also at work. This emerging phenomenon presses us to theorize today’s family problems, especially concerning those related to women’s gendered oppression, …

A Glance At Spark: Multiple Perspectives Of An Innovative Mentorship Program, Sungmin Park, Thomas Peterson

National Youth Advocacy & Resilience Journal

Youths from high-risk settings are often labeled based on their behavior, which leads to cycles of negative stigmatization and punitive interventions. Traditional behavioristic approaches used in schools, courts, and therapy have shown limited success in fostering long-term positive change. The SPARK mentoring program offers an innovative approach by following the principles from Martin Buber's “I and Thou” philosophy to view the youths with a humanistic and spiritual model. The SPARK program is a 10-week peer-mentorship program that connects youth on probation with college students who aspire to be educators. The SPARK program aims to ignite the spirit of hope, healing, …
