Accepting Film: A Study On Tradition, Values Change And Continuity In Tebuireng Pesantren, Jombang, Nurman Hakim

Antropologi Indonesia

The pesantren tradition contains values that become a guide for life and become a source for the actions of santri and kiai. The values in the pesantren tradition in the form of akhlak (morals), ibadah (worship) and barokah (blessings) become an anchor for kiai and santri in responding to films that are considered products of modernity emerging from the west. In the past the act of watching and making films was rejected and considered contrary to the pesantren tradition, but slowly now films are used by pesantren to preserve the tradition itself. This article explores how values in the …

When Two Worlds Collide: Caring In The Midst Of Bureaucratization Of Healthcare In Malinau, North Kalimantan, Anwar Arifin Dec 2025

When Two Worlds Collide: Caring In The Midst Of Bureaucratization Of Healthcare In Malinau, North Kalimantan, Anwar Arifin

Antropologi Indonesia

The issue of healthcare under neoliberalism has been a topic under scrutiny for anthropologists. With the rise of financial capitalism, the state is reconfigured to create a life where the logic of the market triumphs over all other aspects of life. This reconfiguration includes the healthcare sector, where new paradigms of neoliberal governance are incorporated into the fabric of healthcare. In continuing this analysis, I want to address a more specific approach regarding how neoliberal mechanisms work to disrupt caring practices, particularly through the use of bureaucracies. Drawing from various literature and my own ethnographic experiences in Malinau, this article …

Detection Of Phase-Binning And Interpolation Artifacts In 4-Dimensional Computed Tomography Imaging Using Deep Learning And Rule-Based Approaches, Jorge Cisneros, Nathan H. Feldt, Yevgeniy Vinogradskiy, Richard Castillo, Edward Castillo

Department of Radiation Oncology Faculty Papers

BACKGROUND: Four-dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) imaging is a crucial component to lung cancer radiotherapy planning and enables CT-ventilation-based functional avoidance planning to mitigate radiation toxicity. However, 4DCT scans are frequently impaired by acquisition artifacts that corrupt downstream analyses that depend on lung segmentation and deformable image registration, such as CT-ventilation and dose accumulation.

PURPOSE: This study develops 3D deep learning models to identify phase-binning artifacts at the voxel level and a heuristic, rule-based method to identify interpolation slices within 4DCT images.

METHODS: We introduce a generator that systematically inserts synthetic phase-binning and interpolation artifacts into any artifact-free breathing phase obtained …

Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Faculty Papers

Antibiotic therapy for bacterial infections often disrupts gut microbiota (GM) and intestinal integrity, inducing chronic inflammation and inflammatory bowel diseases. An effective therapeutic intervention is urgently needed to alleviate the aforementioned adverse effects of antibiotics. Curcumin (CUR) reveals great potential to restore intestinal integrity and GM dysbiosis due to its strong antiinflammatory and prebiotic effects. However, the weak solubility and stability of CUR result in limited bioavailability and a short half-life, which restricts its clinical uses. An ultra-small CUR oral nanoformulation was created using a carboxylated galactomannan (cGM), facilitated by hydrogen bonding between the phenolic hydroxyl groups of CUR and …

Acceptability Of Corticosteroid Use In The Treatment Of Infant Bronchiolitis: Utilizing The Theoretical Framework Of Acceptability To Design Research Instruments, Caroline R. Smetanka Dec 2025

Acceptability Of Corticosteroid Use In The Treatment Of Infant Bronchiolitis: Utilizing The Theoretical Framework Of Acceptability To Design Research Instruments, Caroline R. Smetanka

Capstone Experience: Master of Public Health

Bronchiolitis is the leading cause of hospitalization among infants under six months, yet treatment remains largely supportive due to clinical guidelines that discourage pharmacologic intervention. Recent research suggests that bronchiolitis is not a uniform condition, and a subgroup of infants (those classified within “Profile A”) may benefit from targeted corticosteroid therapy. However, these treatments remain outside current clinical guidelines, and their successful adoption depends on stakeholder acceptability. This Capstone project developed and refined four data collection instruments- two questionnaires and two interview guides- designed to assess how healthcare providers and caregivers perceive the acceptability of corticosteroid treatment for Profile A …

Automated Design Of Scaffold-Free Dna Wireframe Nanostructures, Wen Wang, Abdulmelik Mohammed, Rong Chen, Antti Elonen, Silian Chen, Mengfan Tian, Junhao Yang, Ye Xiang, Pekka Orponen, Bryan Wei

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Computer-aided design has become common practice in DNA nanotechnology, and many programs are available that make the sophisticated design processes accessible to both the core research community and curious scientists in other fields. However, most of the design tools are committed to the scaffolded DNA origami method. Here we present an automated design pipeline for creating DNA wireframe nanostructures based on a scaffold-free molecular self-assembly approach. Unlike in the DNA origami method, scaffold-free designs are not built around a global backbone strand but are constituted entirely of short, locally intertwined oligonucleotides. This overcomes many limitations inherent in scaffolded nanostructure designs, …

Modern Water And Sediment Transport Patterns In Alluvial Ridge Basins Of The Rio Grande Delta, South Texas, Usa, Waqid Nabi Dec 2025

Modern Water And Sediment Transport Patterns In Alluvial Ridge Basins Of The Rio Grande Delta, South Texas, Usa, Waqid Nabi

Theses and Dissertations

Alluvial ridge (AR) basins are shallow, marine-influenced depressions within river deltas, yet their flow and sediment dynamics remain poorly understood. This study examines hydrodynamics and sediment transport patterns in the Bahia Grande Complex, which are AR basins of the Rio Grande Delta, using tilt current meters, water-level and turbidity loggers, and suspended and bed-sediment sampling. The AR basins function as wind-dominated, microtidal environments, where pre-existing basin geometry and hydrodynamic forcings control water flow and sediment distribution patterns. Seasonal wind patterns and storms modulate water levels and flow connectivity. Substrate patterns reflect frequent resuspension in the shallow northern basin, maintaining coarse …
