We present a case of hypercalcemia in a 12-month-old female with Down syndrome. The patient presented with significant weight loss (810 g since her 6-month visit) and severe growth failure (weight 5.8 kg, -4.5 SDs). Laboratory evaluation revealed severe hypercalcemia with appropriately suppressed PTH and 1,25-hydroxyvitamin D levels. Renal ultrasound confirmed medullary nephrocalcinosis. After excluding common etiologies, the patient was diagnosed with hypercalcemia of Down syndrome, also termed Abnormal Calcium, Calcinosis, Creatinine in Down syndrome. Treatment with intravenous fluids, calcitonin, and transition to a low-calcium formula (Calcilo XD) normalized serum calcium levels. The patient maintained normal calcium levels on restricted …

However, Utah’s harsh winter and short growing seasons present challenging growing conditions. New primocane-bearing cultivars are becoming available, but many of these produce fruit later than what is needed for local markets. Protected cultivation offers the opportunity to give more consistent production under Utah’s difficult growing conditions for berry crops. Protected cultivation methods include high tunnels, low tunnels and row covers. Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly transforming many industries, but its role in landscape architecture remains relatively unexplored. This study examines how AI, specifically GPT-4, can assist landscape architects in selecting plants for projects. By comparing AI-generated plant lists to those that human experts created, the research evaluates Accuracy, Suitability, Availability, Aesthetics, and Professional Usability.

The results show that AI-generated plant lists were highly efficient, accurately matching site conditions and improving plant availability while significantly reducing selection time. Antibiotic therapy for bacterial infections often disrupts gut microbiota (GM) and intestinal integrity, inducing chronic inflammation and inflammatory bowel diseases. An effective therapeutic intervention is urgently needed to alleviate the aforementioned adverse effects of antibiotics. Curcumin (CUR) reveals great potential to restore intestinal integrity and GM dysbiosis due to its strong antiinflammatory and prebiotic effects. However, the weak solubility and stability of CUR result in limited bioavailability and a short half-life, which restricts its clinical uses. BACKGROUND AND AIM: Alagille syndrome (ALGS) is a rare disorder characterised by cholestasis and extrahepatic manifestations. Given the current era of ileal bile acid transporter (IBAT) inhibitor therapies that reduce serum bile acid (SBA) levels, we evaluated whether SBA predicts liver disease outcomes in ALGS.

METHODS: Patients were ascertained from the Global ALagille Alliance (GALA) cohort. A prognostic threshold of SBA 102 μmol/L was assessed as a time-dependent covariate in Cox regression analyses for native liver survival (NLS) and event-free survival (EFS), while adjusting for total bilirubin (TB) levels.

Substantial investments have been made in hospital emergency preparedness. The Hospital Medical Surge Preparedness Index (HMSPI) has been proposed as a metric to assess health system readiness. This index summarizes hospital system characteristics, space and facilities, staff availability, and supply planning.

Methods

The primary objective was to evaluate the relationship between the HMSPI and characteristics of the respective hospitals, including size, type, location, performance on the Hospital Resilience Index (HRI), and Social Determinants of Health (SDoH).

This replication study examines the association between frequent social media (SM) use and bullying victimization, persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness, and suicide risk among U.S. young adults using data from the 2023 Youth Risk Behavior Survey. The study replicates the findings of Young et al. (2024), the first CDC report to incorporate SM into national adolescent behavioral surveillance. Using a weighted, cross-sectional sample of 15,203 students, the replication analysis estimated unadjusted and adjusted odds ratios for outcomes, controlling for age, sex, race/ethnicity, and sexual identity. 77% of students reported frequent SM use. Smoke produced from these fires creates a multitude of air pollution constituents that can cause breathing and other health issues for humans, particularly those with asthma and other respiratory conditions. In January 2022, the Department of Defense launched a five-year pilot program called the TRICARE Childbirth and Breastfeeding Support Demonstration. This demonstration aimed to cover lactation services for Tricare beneficiaries. This project included an electronic survey and was created and completed by 577 participants. Eligible participants needed to have given birth in the last 24 months and have TRICARE as their primary insurance. Participants completed this survey to help understand if they were aware of lactation benefits, if they utilized the service, and if it improved their breastfeeding experience.

Certified nursing assistants (CNAs) are at a higher risk of back injuries in healthcare, particularly in long-term care settings. This literature review assessed the primary causes of these injuries and the efficacy of current interventions, particularly Safe Patient Handling and Mobility (SPHM) programs. A total of 26 peer-reviewed articles were published between 2014 and 2025, including experimental simulations, cross-sectional and longitudinal studies, quasi-experimental training interventions, and evaluations of SPHM programs. Across the literature, the primary contributors to back injuries included high physical workload, inadequate ergonomic design, limited access to assistive devices, and staff shortage.

Since 2017, the Industrial Training and Assessment Center (ITAC) at UTRGV has included photovoltaic (PV) system evaluations in its industrial energy assessments. A review of these reports showed inconsistencies in PV system design, including variations in sizing methods, performance assumptions, and application of NEC requirements. To address these issues, this thesis develops a standardized and NEC-compliant methodology for designing PV systems, incorporating demand-based sizing, solar-geometry principles, and electrical calculations guided by NEC Articles 690 and 705.

The Unilateral Neuromuscular Effects Of Cross Education Eccentric-Focused Isokinetic Strength Training With Blood Flow Restriction In Sedentary And Recreationally Active Males, Bryan Mixumi

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine if BFR unilateral training protocols can elicit the same or greater cross-education effect as observed with HIGH protocols.

RESULTS: Significant time main effects and trained vs. untrained interactions revealed both training groups improved in isometric and isokinetic strength, work and power across limbs (P < 0.05). EMG analyses showed significant increases in vastus lateralis activation, with limb-specific neural adaptations but no group differences (P < 0.05) suggesting potential cross-education influence in the lower musculature.

CONCLUSION: With lower workloads, the BFR training protocols produced improvements in isometrics and isokinetic strength, work, power, and EMG that were comparable to those of the HIGH group across the trained and untrained limbs. The magnitude and limb-specific patterns varied across isometric, isokinetic, and EMG variables, but …
