Investigating The Role Of Motivation On The Effectiveness Of Computerized Cognitive Training Among At-Risk Youth, Emely N. Lugo
Investigating The Role Of Motivation On The Effectiveness Of Computerized Cognitive Training Among At-Risk Youth, Emely N. Lugo
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Student motivation plays a central role in academic success, influencing persistence, engagement, and performance across grade levels. Within situated expectancy-value theory (SEVT), motivation is shaped by students’ beliefs about their ability to succeed (expectancy), the importance or usefulness they assign to a task (value), the perceived effort or trade-offs involved (cost), and the situational context in which learning occurs. Although the link between motivation and academic performance is well known, there is limited research on how motivational factors, like those proposed by SEVT, influence the extent of cognitive gains from school-based cognitive interventions designed to improve abilities related to academic …
Untangling Familicide: A Comparison Of Three Definitions, Lesley M. Vega
Untangling Familicide: A Comparison Of Three Definitions, Lesley M. Vega
Electronic Theses, Projects, and Dissertations
Familicide is generally defined as the killing of multiple family members by a relative. However, there is no single, universally accepted definition of familicide, and different studies use varying definitions with different inclusion criteria. Sometimes, very restrictive definitions are used that exclude many similar cases (e.g., father kills spouse and children). Conversely, broader definitions sometimes overlap with other phenomena, such as mass murder. Only a few studies have examined this phenomenon, primarily from an exploratory standpoint.
Case data was collected from the Gun Violence Archive, an online database that records shooting incidents in the United States, for familicidal events that …
Net Clinical Benefit Of Patiromer For Acute Hyperkalemia: A Post-Hoc Analysis Of The Reduce Trial, Robert Mcarthur, W Frank Peacock, Jeff Budden, Zubaid Rafique
Net Clinical Benefit Of Patiromer For Acute Hyperkalemia: A Post-Hoc Analysis Of The Reduce Trial, Robert Mcarthur, W Frank Peacock, Jeff Budden, Zubaid Rafique
Faculty, Staff and Students Publications
Introduction: Hyperkalemia (HK) is a common and potentially life-threatening electrolyte disturbance managed with potassium (K)-shifting medications and potassium binders. The use of K-shifting agents is a confounder when assessing the effects of K-binding treatments in clinical trials. Patiromer is a K-binding agent with demonstrated efficacy for the management of chronic hyperkalemia. As both changes in sK level and the number of interventions required to lower potassium are clinically relevant, we propose an evaluation using Net Clinical Benefit (NCB), defined as the number of K shifting interventions less the numerical change in K.
Methods: We conducted a post-hoc analysis of the …
Improving Post-Resuscitation Debriefing Completion Rates In An Acute Care Community Hospital: A Quality Improvement Project, Tiffany Tolden
Improving Post-Resuscitation Debriefing Completion Rates In An Acute Care Community Hospital: A Quality Improvement Project, Tiffany Tolden
Doctor of Nursing Practice Projects
Background: Post-resuscitation debriefing improves team dynamics and CPR quality and can identify systemic barriers to quality care delivery. However, completion rates remain low in acute care settings. Purpose: This quality improvement project evaluated whether a one-hour training session for rapid response nurses and charge nurses, combined with weekly reminder emails, would increase completion rates of post-resuscitation debriefings and influence nurses’ perceptions of their usefulness in an acute care community hospital. PICOT Questions: Will a one-hour training session (I) with rapid response nurses and unit charge nurses (P), along with a weekly reminder system (I), increase the completion rate (O) of …

BACKGROUND: Primary sarcopenia is an age-associated disorder with progressive and generalised loss of skeletal muscle strength and mass. Skeletal muscle fibrosis is one of the significant pathological manifestations of age-associated sarcopenia. Decorin, a small dermatan-sulfate proteoglycan, participates in extracellular matrix assembly. In numerous studies, the involvement of decorin is not restricted to matrix structural proteins, and it also affects a diverse variety of biological functions like cell growth, adhesion, migration, proliferation and differentiation. Additionally, it modulates the process of inflammation and fibrillogenesis. Based on these preclinical evidences, we hypothesised that decorin may potentially play an important role in skeletal muscles …

Silver titanate (AgTO) was synthesized via an ion-exchange reaction between sodium titanate and silver nitrate. This study investigates the efficiency of AgTO in the combined adsorption-photodegradation process for removing Methylene Blue (MB). The synthesized material was characterized using FTIR, XRD, SEM, and EDX techniques. Batch adsorption experiments were conducted to assess the effects of AgTO dosage (0.1–1.0 g/L), initial MB concentration (5–20 mg/L), pH (3–11), and temperature (313–333 K). The highest MB removal efficiency (90 %) was achieved at 313 K, pH 3, and an initial MB concentration of 5 mg/L. The photocatalytic performance of AgTO was further evaluated under …

National-Scale Open Cattle Feedlot Detection Using Deep Learning And High-Resolution Aerial Images: Spatial Distribution And Animal Welfare Analysis, Uilson Ricardo Venancio Aires, Vitor Souza Martins, Dakota Hester, Thainara Lima, Lucas Borges Ferreira
Research Data
Open cattle feedlots are a major form of beef production infrastructure in the United States, characterized by outdoor confinement, high animal densities, and regulated feeding practices. Despite their economic importance, a comprehensive and spatially consistent national database of these facilities remains limited. This dataset provides labeled training data, trained deep learning models, and geospatial detection outputs developed to support automated identification of open cattle feedlots from aerial imagery. The dataset includes a manually curated shapefile of 11,746 open cattle feedlot facilities identified through visual interpretation of high-resolution aerial imagery in highly productive counties of Nebraska, Kansas, and Texas. These labels …

Mda Insurance: Offer Group Health Insurance To Entice Recruits, Retain Valuable Staff, Craig Start
The Journal of the Michigan Dental Association
Amidst a competitive labor market, offering group health insurance is critical for attracting and retaining qualified dental staff, as it is the most highly valued employee benefit. Dentists can establish an employment policy stipulating cost-sharing for premiums, rather than paying the entire cost. The MDA strongly encourages investigating the exclusive MDA Health Plan, which offers 11 distinct plan designs powered by Priority Health. For 2026, the MDA Health Plan is increasing rates by only 4%, significantly lower than commercial group plans requesting double-digit increases (10% to 18%). Plans can be started at any time during the year, requiring about 30 …

Geography
Reforestation is a prominent climate change mitigation strategy, but available global maps of reforestation potential are widely criticized and highly variable, which limits their ability to provide robust estimates of both the locations and total area of opportunity. Here we develop global maps that address common critiques, build on a review of 89 reforestation maps created at multiple scales, and present eight reforestation scenarios with varying objectives, including providing ecosystem services, minimizing social conflicts, and delivering government policies. Across scenarios, we find up to 195 Mha (million hectares) are available (2225 TgCO2e (teragrams of carbon dioxide equivalent) per year total …

Geography
As anthropogenic pressures continue to impact the environment, human health is expected to be subsequently affected. This dataset provides a comprehensive view of the trends and burden of infectious diseases, along with environmental metrics, across the Amazon biome between 2000 and 2019. The dataset includes health indicators for respiratory, cardiovascular, and major zoonotic and vector-borne diseases (Chagas disease, hantavirus, cutaneous leishmaniasis, visceral Leishmaniasis, rickettsial diseases, and malaria), compiled as annual case counts at the municipal level. The innovation of this dataset lies in its unprecedented assembly of data for this transboundary biome—much of it requiring ground-level collection beyond available in …

Geography
Zoonotic malaria risk at human-wildlife-environment interfaces requires surveillance that integrates signals from reservoirs, vectors and the environment. We coupled a drone-based environmental DNA (eDNA) canopy swabbing approach with portable quantitative PCR (qPCR) to detect Plasmodium DNA in situ during a 24-h field exercise in the Amazon rainforest. Drone-lowered sterile swabs into the canopy, which were then extracted and subjected to a multiplex pan-Plasmodium assay targeting five human-infecting Plasmodium species (limit of detection 0.2 parasites μL−1). Of 12 samples (10 canopy swabs, 2 field blanks; 13 total runs including repeats), one canopy swab amplified in duplicate (Ct = 28.7 and 29.23), …

A Gis Method To Analyze Trajectories Of Gross Changes Through Multiple Temporal Resolutions With An Application To Brazilian Soybean Cultivation, Thomas Mumuni Bilintoh, Robert Gilmore Pontius, Gustavo Oliveira, Julia Shimbo
Geography
Our manuscript presents Trajectory Analysis, which is a novel method to characterize patterns of gross changes during a time series of raster maps. This manuscript is our first article to elaborate on concepts and features of Trajectory Analysis that are necessary to analyze more than two time intervals. The method computes up to eight trajectories and three components of change: Quantity, Exchange, and Alternation. Quantity is the absolute net change between the two time points that bound the temporal extent. Exchange is the additional gross change between the same two time points. Alternation is the additional gross change that derives …
