Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a highly aggressive subtype of breast cancer that lacks expression of estrogen, progesterone, and HER2 receptors, limiting the effectiveness of targeted therapies and making chemotherapy the primary treatment option. However, resistance to chemotherapy remains a major clinical challenge, often driven by dysregulation of the transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling pathway. TGF-β plays a dual role in cancer, initially acting as a tumor suppressor but later promoting tumor progression through mechanisms such as epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT), immune evasion, and the establishment of cancer stemness. The COVID-19 pandemic caused a rapid pivot of instruction in higher education from traditionally in-person modes to virtual modes with a need to maintain student learning outcomes, especially in laboratory courses. The next pandemic and other natural disasters cannot be predicted, and there are other reasons such as lack of resources that may inhibit courses from being implemented in-person. This paper provides a laboratory activity that can be completed in-person or with virtual instruction. BACKGROUND: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects approximately 16 million Americans and often results in avoidable readmissions due, in part, to medication errors and lack of education. Telehealth interventions can support medication reconciliation and inhaler education following hospital discharge for patients with COPD.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to design and prototype TELE-TOC (Telehealth Education: Leveraging Electronic Transitions of Care), a post-discharge, in-home, televisit intervention, and to map its workflow to ensure integration into the routine discharge care transition process for patients with COPD.

Background: Separation of the pulmonic and systemic circulation is essential for terrestrial life, and mammals have evolved distinct cardiac chambers with specialized structures and functions. Transcriptomics profiling revealed cellular heterogeneity between heart chambers. However, the mechanisms underlying chamber-specific transcriptomic and metabolic differences-and their functional significance-remain poorly understood. The Hippo/YAP (yes-associated protein) pathway is a conserved signaling network that regulates diverse cellular processes. The Hippo kinases inhibit YAP in cardiac fibroblasts (CF) to restrict fibrosis and inflammation. Nonetheless, how YAP regulates the metabolic microenvironment during homeostasis and fibroinflammation remains unclear.

Clinical trials of immunotherapy in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) have largely been unsuccessful despite promising preclinical studies and proven efficacy in other solid tumors. These disappointing clinical outcomes have been attributed to an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, a relative lack of infiltrating immune effector cells, and tumor-related and host-related factors, which collectively render prostate cancer a relatively immunologically "cold" tumor. Sipuleucel-T (Provenge), an autologous cellular immunotherapy, induces an immune response targeted against prostatic acid phosphatase. It received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration in 2010, marking the first immunotherapy to show an overall survival benefit in patients with …

The following article addresses a conundrum: What if child assent in research were a fully informed, stand-alone process that empowered all children to discuss meaningfully, negotiate, and decide how and what the research experience would look like? Past research and practices suggest that child assent, when children (youths to 17-year-olds who have not been emancipated) agree to participate in research before, during, and after parents’ or guardians’ consent, is rife with problems that minimize informed participation and prize procedural ethics over true understanding of the processes and autonomous decision-making. This paper examines the history of the enrolled deeds record series in Jamaica, from its creation in the mid-seventeenth century through to the present day. It is a critical examination of a single record series through colonialism and independence. It examines the purpose of deeds and the context in which deeds registries were created before examining the history of the series through the periods of slavery and emancipation. It examines in close detail the late nineteenth century, when the Island Record Office—which has custody of the enrolled deeds—was created and several other important changes happened. Master’s students in Archives and Records Management could help low-resourced organizations address their Archives and Records Management needs while gaining practical experience. Archives and Records Management education programs could facilitate this mutually beneficial relationship by offering internships and service-learning courses. This paper analyzes the strengths and limitations of these two experiential learning mechanisms and discusses solutions to overcome the limitations. It argues that service-learning is especially suitable for addressing the Archives and Records Management needs of low-resourced organizations and proposes a service-learning model for that purpose.

Community archives are becoming an increasingly important component of the heritage landscape, as well as an observable part of university archival education. This article is part of a research project titled “Teaching about Community Archives in the US and Poland--A Comparative Study” conducted by the author between March and May 2024. Using the student-centered learning approach, the article analyzes a workshop conducted with US-based students on the design of university courses on community archives. This paper explores archival notations, primarily from the early modern and modern periods, found on the dorse of Norwegian charters dating from the 13th to the 17th century. By examining the notation practices of two prominent Norwegian archivists and collectors, the study further highlights individual efforts in documenting and preserving these materials across various collections. The archival efforts are contextualized historically, noting a transition to systematic archival management. The findings reveal the significance of this largely unexplored component of Norwegian charters as additional historical sources, emphasizing the role of dorsal annotations in provenance research. The study examines the morphosyntactic strategies used in Arabic language to indicate grammatical functions (subject, object) within a sentence, comparing and contrasting modern dialects of Arabic, particularly Saudi Arabic, and Yemeni Arabic, with Standard Arabic. The empirical observation of the study is that, while Standard Arabic mainly relies on a case marking strategy to determine grammatical functions, the modern dialects of Arabic under investigation are incapable of employing this strategy.
