PURPOSE:

Postprandial hyperglycemia contributes to the development of chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus. While post-meal physical activity (PA) is known to reduce blood glucose (BG), it remains unclear whether certain modes of PA are more effective than others when matched for energy expenditure. This study aims to compare the BG-attenuating effects of two energetically equivalent postprandial modes of PA.

METHODS:

Eleven healthy adults completed three randomized sessions, consisting of a 75g oral glucose challenge and either walking, stepping, or rest. Each session’s PA lasted 15 minutes and occurred between 45–60 minutes post-ingestion, when BG typically peaks. During PA both …

Previous research has explored exposing distal extremities to cold temperatures as a strategy to enhance exercise performance (ExPer). While some studies have found acute ergogenic benefits to indices such as repetitions-to-failure and muscle activity, overall findings remain equivocal. No studies to date have evaluated interset palm cooling (IPC) effects across a full-body (FB) resistance training (RT) protocol. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the foremost cause of death in the United States and worldwide; thus, understanding novel interventions (e.g., diet) to reduce CVD risk is of critical importance. Ambulatory BP monitoring allows assessment of cardiovascular responses under real-world conditions and may be superior to in-office BP in terms of CVD risk prediction. A 100-mile trail ultramarathon does significant damage to the musculoskeletal system. While subjective measures are commonly used to assess recovery from these events, objective measurements such as bioelectrical impedance (BEI) may offer validation and potentially insights into physiological changes happening during the recovery process. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in the United States and affects men and women differently, highlighting the importance of understanding vascular regulation across both sexes. Regular consumption of dietary capsaicin (found in spicy peppers) has been associated with reduced CVD risk, potentially through improvements in vascular function. However, the mechanisms by which dietary capsaicin influences vascular health are not well understood. Frailty and pre-frailty affect over half of patients with heart failure (HF) and are linked to less favorable outcomes, independent of age and New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class. Pre-frailty, a transitional and potentially reversible state, is more prevalent than overt frailty but remains less studied. Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) is the gold standard for assessing functional capacity (VO2peak) and prognosis in HF, but the relationship between pre-frailty and CPET metrics remains unclear. CASE HISTORY: A 21-year-old female with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) sustained a right ankle inversion injury while stepping off a curb, resulting in acute pain, swelling, and inability to weightbear. Initial conservative treatment including rest, ice, and traditional physical therapy (PT) was initiated but failed to relieve symptoms. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) revealed a Grade-II ATFL tear with chronic instability. After three months of unsuccessful conservative management and persistent pain and instability, surgical intervention was pursued. Polyphenols have been shown to have significant benefits on the aerobic system; however, there is currently little information about their effects on strength-endurance. Cranberries are rich in polyphenols, specifically the rare A-type proanthocyanidin (aPAC), which is associated with their various physiological benefits.

Law enforcement officers (LEOs) perform intense and unpredictable physical exertions resulting from their occupational tasks. Optimal movement quality is beneficial for the performance of these tasks and for decreasing injury risk. The prevalence of type II diabetes (T2D) has been increasing rapidly in low- and middle-income countries. Previous research in this population found very high physical activity participation. PURPOSE: Explore predictive behavioral variables of fasting blood glucose (FBG) in people with T2D in the Dominican Republic. METHODS: Sixty-five (48 women and 17 men) people with T2D enrolled. FBG was measured using a capillary blood glucose monitor. The high rate of injuries in baseball pitchers has been linked to increased pitch velocity. Monitoring arm health through shoulder strength testing may link weakness with dysfunction or fatigue. PURPOSE: To measure shoulder strength at three points during the season (pre, mid, post) and identify shoulder muscle weakness. Indian club swinging (ICS) provides a low-intensity, dynamic, and repetitive option to increase intensity while performing a warm-up for the upper extremity. PURPOSE: This study aimed to compare shoulder mobility and isokinetic (ISK) measures after performing a warm-up (WU) with ICS compared with two other WU conditions. METHODS: 18 participants [Age: 23 (3) yrs, Height: 167 (12) cm, Weight: 80.3 (19.4) kg] performed three WU routines: 2lb ICS, 2lb dumbbell [DB], and no external load [CON]). While blood flow restriction (BFR) in combination with low intensity exercise is known to stimulate muscle hypertrophy, its influence on flexibility is yet to be determined.

PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine if adding BFR to a Yoga intervention results in greater flexibility improvements in older adults (OA).

Sleep quality is crucial for overall health, particularly among older adults. Kanpu Masatsu (KM), a traditional Japanese self-massage technique using dry towels, has been associated with health benefits for this population. PURPOSE: This study explores the effects of performing Kanpu Masatsu before bedtime on sleep quality and fatigue levels. METHODS: Twelve healthy older adults (3 men and 9 women; age 60.67 ± 1.69 years) were recruited to monitor their sleep over 14 days using a Fitbit Sense 2. CASE HISTORY: A 22-year-old Division I female lacrosse athlete with prior left ACL reconstruction presented with progressive right lateral hip and anterior groin pain, intermittently radiating to the lateral thigh. She denied neurological symptoms, mechanical catching/locking, or instability, but reported occasional popping. Symptoms were minimally relieved by physical therapy, cupping, and dry needling. PHYSICAL EXAM: Initial: focal tenderness over the right lateral hip (TFL) and mild anterior hip-flexor tenderness; FABER/FADIR reproduced pain. Balancing performance demands with self-care is essential for maintaining psychological health. Mental toughness (MT) and self-compassion (SC) are often framed as opposing constructs; however, athlete data suggest mindfulness (MF) may integrate them. Whether this extends to non-athlete adults is unclear. PURPOSE: To test whether MF mediates the MT–SC relationship in a non-athlete population. METHODS: Eighty-four adults (M_age = 44.4, SD = 14.9; 57.1% male) were recruited from a community outreach program. Missing data were addressed with 20 item-level imputations. For senior health care leaders, it is pivotal in shaping culture, morale, and patient experiences, yet remains difficult to elevate amid competing demands. Evidence-based engagement interventions are rare in health care. As a psychological construct, mental toughness (MT) training builds resilience, focus, and confidence, offering leaders tools to persist under pressure and manage competing priorities. Modernism emerged as a universal language of geometry, light, and order. What Le Corbusier described as a “fundamentally new aesthetic” that rejected the architecture of past epochs to express “the spirit of an age.” Rooted in abstraction and universality, modernism sought to define a language freed from ornament and guided by progress. Yet when it encounters culture, faith, and climate, modernism transforms.
