Using court records, historical context, and firsthand accounts from organizers, former nonprofit workers, and participants, the project examines Punk HQ as both a community space for marginalized youth and a continuation of Lower East Side squatting traditions from the 1970s and 1980s. Vision-Language Models (VLMs) have emerged as transformative technologies for multimodal AI, yet they face significant hurdles in processing text-rich images required for enterprise applications like document understanding, medical imaging, and industrial inspection. Current VLMs struggle with accurate text extraction and reasoning, often exhibiting high hallucination rates and poor Optical Character Recognition (OCR) token utilization. To address these limitations, this research presents a comprehensive framework for optimizing parameter-efficient Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) fine-tuning strategies on state-of-the-art architectures, including LLaVA-1.5 and BLIVA-FlanT5. KRASG12D mutation is a prevalent gain-of-function mutation that drives pancreatic cancer tumorigenesis, but the underlying mechanisms that promote KRAS-induced cell proliferation and tumor formation remain elusive. To uncover the molecular pathways that facilitate KRASG12D-driven malignant transformation, we measured the transcriptomic alterations at various time points after induction of KRASG12D expression in human pancreatic normal epithelial cells. KEGG pathway enrichment of the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) showed that the major DEGs were located in pathways that regulate nicotinate/nicotinamide metabolism, TNF signaling, and microRNAs associated with cancer. Background: Seizures are one of the most common reasons for emergency medical services (EMS) activation for children, and current EMS practice results in underdosing and delayed delivery of anti-seizure medication. A prehospital evidence-based guideline recommends using intranasal or intramuscular midazolam as first-line treatment for pediatric seizures. Despite attempts to implement these guidelines, one-third of children having a paramedic-witnessed seizure have ongoing seizures on emergency department (ED) arrival; this may be due to inadequate or delayed midazolam dosing. Replacing the error-prone, sequential calculations with age-based midazolam dosing may be simpler, faster, and more effective without compromising safety. The objective of this …

The Whig party crafted the first ever modern campaign seen in American History during the campaign and subsequent presidential election of 1840. They did this not merely through the use of flashy campaign slogans and festive events as previous historians have discussed. The Whigs created the first ever modern campaign by telling both realistic and symbolic stories through the use of media narratives and physical objects crafted for the campaign. By doing this, this helped mold then candidate and future President William Henry Harrison into a candidate for all Americans, even if he was not in practice.

The 1961 Route 40 campaign in Maryland became a critical battleground where three competing approaches to addressing racial segregation revealed deep contradictions in Cold War America. Route 40, a major highway between Washington D.C. and New York, became an international embarrassment when African diplomats from newly independent nations were repeatedly refused service at restaurants and hotels. This crisis prompted responses from three distinct actors: the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), which employed grassroots organizing and direct action; the State Department's Special Protocol Service Section (SPSS), which pursued top-down diplomatic solutions; and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), which conducted extensive …

Klebsiella pneumoniae is a leading cause of nosocomial infections, bacteremia, and worldwide mortality. Further, a drastic rise in antibiotic-resistant isolates poses an urgent threat to humanity. Unfortunately, despite its clinical importance, a licensed K. pneumoniae vaccine is not yet available. Here, we report on the production and characterization of the broadest K. pneumoniae capsule bioconjugate vaccine to date. We tested this vaccine for its immunogenicity, functionality, efficacy, and antibody durability against a variety of K. pneumoniae isolates in a murine bacteremia model. We also established an immunocompromised murine model of bacteremia to better recapitulate human infection and tested our vaccine's …

The 2015 International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (MDS) Diagnostic criteria for Parkinson Disease are based on expert consensus opinion and defines core motor features, 'Absolute Exclusion Criteria' and a balance of 'Supportive Criteria' and 'Red Flags'. To assess validity of each criterion in pathologically-confirmed cases, a scoping literature review between 1988-2024 using search terms for clinicopathological PD and atypical parkinsonian disorders identified 28 articles. Supportive criteria were higher in PD, with excellent levodopa response and rest tremor most useful. Absolute exclusion criteria and red flags were present more often in atypical parkinsonian disorders. However, supranuclear gaze palsy, rapid progression …

Intermittent fasting (IF) has gained attention as a potential intervention for cardiometabolic health, though its long-term effects remain unclear. In this randomized clinical trial, we assessed the impact of 6 months of IF on body composition, cardiovascular risk factors, and related molecular pathways in middle-aged (30-65 years) men and women with overweight (BMI 24.8-35 kg/m²). In this trial, 41 participants were randomized to either an intermittent fasting (IF) intervention or to maintain their habitual diet. This study aims to identify the need for the development of Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media as an innovative solution in elementary school learning. The needs analysis method was conducted using a mixed methods approach through questionnaires and interviews with 103 students and 5 teachers. The data were analyzed descriptively and quantitatively to obtain a comprehensive picture of instructional needs. The results showed that student needs were in the high category, with a percentage of 80.64%-85.30%. The socio-cultural aspect was the highest need (85.30%), followed by the pedagogical and technical aspects, while the cognitive aspect had the lowest value (80.64%). …
