In this Corner, Dr. Antulio J. Echevarria II, professor of strategic competition at the US Army War College, critiques the essential concepts underpinning US doctrine concerning intrastate strategic competition. In this, his inaugural contribution, Dr. Echevarria discusses the shortfalls in the Joint concept of interstate strategic competition, namely, its failure to capture the true nature of that competition. A more extensive reading of the scholarly literature on strategic rivalry suggests the nature of strategic competition should be reframed to align more closely with the nature of war.

Squirrels are widespread in Alaska, yet a science-based conservation management plan (CMP) is absent at the state level. Squirrels are killed year-round with no bag limits, while population metrics remain unknown and conservation statuses disputed. The integration of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) into English language teaching (ELT) raises important questions about how AI-generated lesson plans shape pedagogy, interaction, and ideology compared to human-designed materials. This study examines how ChatGPT-generated lesson plans converge with or diverge from those published by the British Council, with particular attention to teacher and learner roles, classroom power dynamics, and pedagogical scaffolding. Railroad-highway grade crossings (RHGCs) are critical points of conflict between roadway and rail systems, contributing to over 2000 crashes and 250 fatalities annually in the United States. This study applied machine learning methods (ML) techniques to model and predict crash frequency at RHGCs, using a comprehensive dataset from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) and Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT). The dataset included 807 validated crossings, incorporating roadway geometry, traffic volumes, rail characteristics, and control features. Five ML models—Random Forest, XGBoost, PSO-Elastic Net, Transformer-CNN, and Autoencoder-MLP—were developed and compared to a traditional Negative Binomial (NB) regression model. The present study analyses the influence of various parameters on the accuracy and reliability of ROH identification procedures, as well as their relationship with inbreeding and genetic diversity in Duroc pig populations. The genotyping data of 70 Duroc pigs obtained using PorcineSNP80v1 chips were used, and the effects of LD pruning and ROH calling parameters were evaluated. It was found that the use of strict basic filters during the execution of the --homozyg command reduces the likelihood of false positives and contributes to the more accurate identification of ROH. Recent studies show improved milk yield (MY) responses; however, comparisons of lactation curve parameters between AIL and naturally calved (NC) cows often do not extend beyond 305 days in milk (DIM). Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are compounds that interfere with hormone synthesis, secretion, metabolism, or excretion. Evidence indicates that increased exposure to EDCs is associated with insulin resistance and, most notably, type 2 diabetes worldwide. This suggests a diabetogenic effect that is independent of obesity, underscoring the complex mechanisms and broad impact of EDCs on metabolic health. Key pathways include hormone mimicry and antagonism, altered hormone metabolism, inflammatory responses, and mitochondrial dysfunction. This review summarises the mechanisms through which EDCs contribute to these conditions and evaluates the epidemiological and experimental evidence supporting these associations.

EDs can act as obesogens, increasing the risk of weight gain and related metabolic conditions, including type 2 diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. They may also alter the basal metabolic rate, gut microbiota composition, and hormonal regulation of appetite and satiety. Fetal development relies on intricate maternal-fetal-placental interactions, with thyroid hormones playing a critical role in growth and neurogenesis. Exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) during pregnancy has emerged as a significant risk factor for thyroid dysfunction and its associated developmental and cognitive disorders. EDCs, including bisphenol A (BPA), polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), perfluorinated compounds (PFAS), pesticides, and heavy metals, disrupt thyroid hormone synthesis, secretion, and metabolism. Mechanisms include binding to thyroid hormone receptors, impairing the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis, and altering thyroid peroxidase activity. EDCs are commonly present in plastics, pesticides, industrial byproducts, and personal care products and pose substantial health risks, particularly to vulnerable groups such as infants and children. The rapid expansion and variety of cyber-threat information put enormous pressure on security operations centers (SOCs) that must convert unstructured data into understandable signals and make decisions upon it. This paper develops a Cyber-Threat-Intelligence (CTI) framework that integrates vulnerability information, product inventories, and weakness taxonomies into a domain-specific knowledge graph via automatic fusing. The proposed solution covers 284,296 CVEs, 101,644 CPE identifiers, and 965 CWE weaknesses, generating more than 800,000 typed edges linking threats, assets, tactics, and mitigations in an integrated CTI Knowledge graph.
