Animal movement is fundamental to biodiversity, offering early signals of species' responses to environmental change. I first discuss how wildlife movement is shaped by landscape composition and configuration, from global to local scales. I then focus on one linear infrastructure reconfiguring landscapes worldwide: fences. Drawing on research from the western US and beyond, I show how fences reshape animal movement, with cascading consequences for ecosystems and societies. I close with reflections on broadening this science through visual storytelling.

NRESS Seminars
Bianca has a PhD in ecology from UNC Chapel Hill and was a postdoc at the National Socio- Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC), the New School, and UMass Amherst, studying plant community ecology, urban ecology, and invasive species. She has been a professional editor at Science for 5 years, handling papers in community and ecosystem ecology, biogeography, paleoecology, sustainability, and environmental economics. In this talk, Bianca will discuss her work at Science and the inner workings of publishing research in this journal.

Assessing Awareness And Use Of Artificial Intelligence Tools Among Library Personnel In Public And Private Institutions In Ekiti State, Nigeria, Thomas Aanu Ojo
Assessing Awareness And Use Of Artificial Intelligence Tools Among Library Personnel In Public And Private Institutions In Ekiti State, Nigeria, Thomas Aanu Ojo
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Artificial Intelligence is a technology integrated into libraries as a tool to help eliminate tedious and repetitive tasks. However, its awareness and use in libraries are still in the early stages. Therefore, this study investigated the awareness and use of AI tools among library personnel in public and private institutions in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The study population comprised 107 library personnel in Ekiti State. The questionnaire was used to elicit data. Descriptive statistics of frequency count, percentage, mean and standard deviation were used to analyse the data. The findings revealed that the level of awareness of AI tools among library …

Green Lithium Extraction From Alkaline Brines Using A Dibenzoylmethane Octanol System, Maryam Gonbadi, Shayan Abrishami, Ozra Gholipour, Ana Vafadar, Amir Razmjou
Research outputs 2022 to 2026
The escalating global demand for lithium necessitates the development of efficient, selective, and environmentally sustainable extraction technologies from brine resources. This study presents a novel solvent extraction system employing dibenzoylmethane (DBM) as a lithium-selective β-diketone chelating extractant and 1-octanol as a biodegradable diluent for lithium recovery from alkaline salt lake brines. The effects of critical process parameters, including aqueous phase pH, extractant concentration, and total dissolved solids (TDS), on lithium extraction efficiency and selectivity were systematically investigated. Under optimized conditions (pH 12, 0.3 M DBM in 1-octanol), the system achieved a single-stage lithium extraction efficiency of 80.8% with exceptional separation …

Evaluating Data-Mining Strategies For Label-Free Raman Microspectroscopic Analysis Of Cellular Processes In Vitro: Dynamic Dimensionality Reduction, Zohreh Mirveis, Nitin Patil, Hugh J. Byrne
Research Outputs: 2025-Present
Understanding dynamic intracellular metabolism is essential for elucidating cellular function and disease mechanisms. However, analysing time-resolved spectral data is challenging due to overlapping signals, high dimensionality, and biological variability. This study evaluates the applicability of Multivariate Curve Resolution-Alternating Least Squares (MCR-ALS) for resolving complex cellular spectral data and introduces a framework that integrates Principal Component Analysis (PCA) of sequential time points as a preprocessing step. PCA was used to extract dominant spectral variance associated with biological kinetics (PC1), and MCR-ALS was subsequently applied to the sequential PC1 loadings to enhance the recovery of kinetic trends. To validate the approach, simulated …

Plastic pollution has become a major environmental challenge because of its persistence and widespread impacts on natural systems. This has accelerated the transition toward sustainable plastic alternatives and recycling based approaches. While these strategies aim to reduce the long term impacts of plastic waste, relatively little is known about how these materials change once they enter the environment. Using examples from biodegradable and semisynthetic polymers and recycled tire rubber, this seminar will examine how environmental weathering influences their transformation and interactions, with implications for their fate, exposure, and potential toxicity.

Introduction
Unprofessional behavior in health professions education adversely affects patient care, team functioning, communication, and learner development. Traditional professionalism curricula often focuses on elements of professionalism (eg, integrity, respect, duty) that may fail to illuminate the relational consequences of unprofessional behaviors. We developed an educational intervention that reframed professionalism through the lens of trust and entrustment.
Methods
The face-to-face intervention aimed to help learners analyze professional behaviors by examining their effects on patient safety, teamwork, and professional growth using a four-element trust framework. Beginning in February 2026, a multidisciplinary faculty /staff workgroup implemented a series of facilitated educational sessions across …
