To what extent do participants report that a poetry workshop builds connections between poets and strengthen their confidence in writing? What do participants want or expect from a poetry workshop? Through this project I hope to attend and host poetry workshops with an emphasis on the queer community. I will collaborate with campus and community organizations like Queer Humboldt and other organizations that are interested in exploring queer experiences through writing, connection, and meditation. This project will serve as a how-to guide for those seeking to conduct their own workshops.

This report presents a programmatic evaluation of the Richmond Resilience Initiative (RRI), a guaranteed income program designed to support economic stability among Richmond Residents experiencing financial hardship. The evaluation focuses on participants in Cohort Two and Cohort Three, examining program impacts over the two-year periods during which participants received cash transfers. Guaranteed income (GI), the provision of recurring, unconditional cash transfers, has grown in popularity as a significant policy innovation for addressing economic insecurity and inequality in the United States.

Virginia passed an adult-use (recreational; non-medical) cannabis law that went into effect on July 1, 2021. Allowing adult possession of cannabis requires the passage of laws and regulations that govern this market (often similar to tobacco or alcohol) due to the intoxicating nature of cannabis and to ensuring the safety of the production processes. Establishing a formal retail market can also address harms related to public health and criminal justice, and benefit state agencies and residents. In order to maximize benefits, Virginia must implement the market with an equity perspective to ensure just treatment for all residents and organizations.

Introduction: The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education presents opportunities and challenges for dental education. This study explores the use of Large Language Model (LLM) based AI tools, including ChatGPT and Grammarly AI, among faculty and students at the UTHealth School of Dentistry in Houston (UTSDH). This research assessed usage patterns, perceived benefits and concerns, and AI training demand.

Methods: A piloted, cross-sectional survey was administered via email. The survey included Likert-scale, multiple-choice, and open-ended questions. Background

Health literacy and numeracy are broad terms that relate to a patient’s understanding of their health information. While there is a substantial amount of research on this topic in a general sense as well as in relation to how deficiencies in these skills impact patients’ understanding of laboratory results, little is known regarding the extent to which underlying factors, which are impacted by health literacy/numeracy, affect how patients interpret their results. This literature review attempts to shed light on the current literature on this more focused and narrow issue, including recommendations to address these barriers.

Human genome sequencing typically relies on mapping reads to a reference genome to call variants, but this approach introduces technical biases, excluding duplicated and structurally polymorphic regions of the genome. To overcome this, we present a telomere-to-telomere genome benchmark with near-perfect accuracy across 99.4% of the diploid HG002 genome. This benchmark adds 701.4 Mb of autosomal sequence and both sex chromosomes (216.8 Mb), which were absent from prior benchmarks. We annotated genes and repeats on both haplotypes, including 19,956 protein-coding genes on the maternal haplotype and 19,190 on the paternal haplotype, and developed new methods to measure the accuracy of …

In her influential 2020 review in Globalization and Health, Mialon synthesizes the commercial determinants of health (CDOH) literature and underscores how commercial actors are connected to public health through the institutional environments in which they operate. Much of this research conceptualizes firms as institutionally embedded but relatively homogeneous actors, emphasizing external practices such as the production and promotion of harmful commodities, lobbying, and corporate social responsibility initiatives. While recent CDOH scholarship has begun to recognize the importance of organizational-level factors, few studies analyze the internal processes through which corporate conduct with public health consequences emerges. There are numerous infections that can adversely impact a developing fetus, neonates, and pregnant women, and there is limited research related to how specific infections experienced during pregnancy can affect these populations. Tuberculosis (TB), malaria, Group B streptococcus (GBS) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) can cause negative outcomes to maternal and neonatal health. For TB and GBS, there are vaccines in various stages of clinical trial development, and malaria and RSV vaccines are available. Was The Early U.S. Tax Treaty Program A One-Man Show?, Wei Cui

This article examines the origins of the U.S. tax treaty program from the mid-1930s to the early 1950s. Drawing on congressional records and previously unexamined Treasury and State Department archives, it argues that the program was shaped to an extraordinary degree by a single Bureau of Internal Revenue official, Eldon P. King. Far from merely administering treaty policy, King effectively created and directed it: he developed legal justifications for treaty negotiations, selected negotiating partners, led negotiations, managed relations with the State Department, and helped secure Senate acceptance of the resulting agreements. A 2013 amendment of China’s Company Law allowed limited liability companies to form without any minimum equity requirement. Using a confidential taxpayer dataset, we causally identify the reform’s impact on the composition of new firms and their financing choices. Firmentry surged by 33%. Newfirms started with 31.6% lower assets but operated at similar scales as prior firms. While entrants’ average profitability remained the same, smaller entrants saw increased profitability post-reform, indicating entry by productive butwealth-constrained entrepreneurs. Consistent with a preference for debt over equity, new entrants displayed a 94% decline in equity and large increases in liabilities. This indicates that …

This explanatory sequential mixed-methods study examined whether an alternative English Language Development (ELD) scheduling model influenced ninth-grade Long-Term English Learners’ (LTELs) attitudes toward school and perceived control at a California high school operating on a block schedule. Guided by Self-Determination Theory (Ryan & Deci, 2000), the study explored how differing ELD scheduling models may shape students’ experiences related to autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Long-term satellite image archives enable ecological monitoring at large scales, but manual extraction of fine-grained features (e.g., beaver dams) remains time-consuming. Machine learning models may automate these tasks, but their temporal transferability for multiannual monitoring is still poorly resolved.

We evaluated the performance of two complementary neural-network frameworks across a 100,000-hectare watershed in Montana USA, using a decade of satellite imagery (2014-2024): (i) a single-class ResNet-50 beaver dam detector, and (ii) a multi-class ResU-Net landcover classifier.

Using a qualitative, practitioner-oriented design grounded in template analysis, the research draws on semi-structured interviews with thirty professionals from diverse sectors of the economy of the canton of Geneva.
