Study Of A Symmetrical Llc Dual-Active Bridge Resonant Converter Topology For Battery Storage Systems, John K. George 2020 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

Study Of A Symmetrical Llc Dual-Active Bridge Resonant Converter Topology For Battery Storage Systems, John K. George

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

A symmetrical LLC resonant converter topology with a fixed-frequency quasi-triple phase-shift modulation method is proposed for battery-powered electric traction systems with extensions to other battery storage systems. Operation of the converter with these methods yields two unique transfer characteristics and is dependent on the switching frequency. The converter exhibits several desirable features: 1) load-independent buck-boost voltage conversion when operated at the low-impedance resonant frequency, allowing for dc-link voltage regulation, zero-voltage switching across a wide load range, and intrinsic load transient resilience; 2) power flow control when operated outside the low-impedance resonance for integrated battery charging; 3) and simple operational mode …

A Power Constrained 433-Mhz Low Noise Amplifier, Pablo Alvarez Arellano 2020 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

A Power Constrained 433-Mhz Low Noise Amplifier, Pablo Alvarez Arellano

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Within wireless communication systems, low noise amplifiers are critical for the performance of receivers. They are primarily responsible for providing enough gain while adding little noise to overcome the noise of the subsequent stages. The LNA presented here is part of a battery-powered transceiver meant to measure crop nutrient data and relay the information. Therefore, power consumption and area become import considerations. To design for a specific power level, a power-constrained noise optimization method is used. The method sizes the amplifying transistor for a fixed source impedance, power dissipation, technology, and operating frequency. The chosen topology is the cascode stage …

Multiple Input Single Output Converter With Maximum Power Point Tracking For Renewable Energy Applications, Kenneth K. Nguyen, Taufik Taufik 2020 California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo

Multiple Input Single Output Converter With Maximum Power Point Tracking For Renewable Energy Applications, Kenneth K. Nguyen, Taufik Taufik

Master's Theses

In this thesis, a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) for multiple input single output (MISO) converter is presented such that power generated from multiple individual energy sources can be combined to deliver the maximum amount of power to a common resistive load. Typically, MISO converters will employ techniques that yield equal current sharing from each energy source. However, this may not be desirable since each source may be rated at different power ratings and/or may experience different operating conditions, preventing the system MISO converter to acquire the most available total power from the sources. Utilizing MPPT control would therefore be …

A Novel Three-Level Isolated Ac-Dc Pfc Power Converter Topology With Reduced Number Of Switches, Obaid Aldosari 2020 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

A Novel Three-Level Isolated Ac-Dc Pfc Power Converter Topology With Reduced Number Of Switches, Obaid Aldosari

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

The three-level isolated AC-DC power factor corrected (PFC) converter provides safe and more efficient power conversion. In comparison with two-level, three-level PFC converter has the advantages of low total harmonic distortion, low device voltage rating, low di/dt, better output performance, high power factor, and low switching losses at higher switching frequencies. The high frequency transformer (HFT) grants galvanic isolation, steps up or down secondary voltage, and limits damage in case of a fault current.

The existing three-level converter based on solid-state transformer (SST) topologies convert ac power from the electrical grid to a dc load while maintaining at least the …

Area Efficient Device Optimization For Esd Protection In High Speed Interface Ics, Dan Thomas Jarard 2020 University of Arkansas, Fayetteville

Area Efficient Device Optimization For Esd Protection In High Speed Interface Ics, Dan Thomas Jarard

Graduate Theses and Dissertations

Electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection is considered as a vital step in integrated circuit (IC) manufacturing process. IC chips are unable to overcome the effects of transient events without adequate discharge protection. Recent trend in the industry has seen the incorporation of system level ESD protection within the IC chip. Incorporating system level on-chip ESD protection often increases cost, degrades circuit performance and consumes layout area which could otherwise be used for improving the circuit performance. These design challenges could be easily overcome if the parasitic components in a circuit were used for ESD protection. Despite the various design challenges, on-chip …

Master's Theses

This paper presents the development and study of multiple-input single-output converter (MISO) for the DC House project that utilizes a controller to maximize the overall converter’s efficiency. The premise of this thesis is to create uneven load current sharing between the converters at different loading conditions in order to maximize the efficiency of the overall MISO converter. The goal is to find a proper ratio of current from each converter to the total load current of the MISO system to achieve the greatest efficiency. The Arduino microcontroller is implemented to achieve this goal. The design and operation of the MISO …

High- And Low-Voltage Mitigation In Distribution Systems Using Residential Static Volt-Ampere Reactive Compensators, Andrés Valdepeña Delgado

Boise State University Theses and Dissertations

Power distribution systems are experiencing a fast transformation from simple one-way radial feeders to complex systems with multiple sources and bidirectional power flows. The rapid increase of Distributed Generation (DG) connected to the distribution system over the last decade, especially solar photovoltaic (PV), has been the key element to this transformation.

The variable nature of PV-based DG has increased the complexity of voltage regulation in distribution systems. Electric Utilities are facing an increasing number of voltage issues in distribution systems with high penetration of DGs, leading customers to experience voltage levels outside of range A of the ANSI C84.1 standard. …

Electrochemical Performance Improvement Of Li2Mno3 Cathode Materials By Mgf2 Coating, Du-Dan Wang, Fei Wang, Huan-Huan Zhai, Yu-Peng Li, Na-Chuan Yang, Kang-Hua Chen

Journal of Electrochemistry

Cathode material Li2MnO3 has received more and more attention owing to its high theoretical capacity (459 mAh·g -1). However, the low initial coulombic efficiency and the poor cycle stability hamper its practical application in lithium-ion batteries. Herein, we investigated the crystal structure and electrochemical performance of Li2MnO3 by introducing MgF2 coating layer. The results indicated that the conversion of partial layer Li2MnO3 to spinel phase induced by MgF2 coating could reduce the initial irreversible capacity and improve the first cycle efficiency. The initial coulombic efficiencies of the 0.5wt.%, …

Direct Carbon Solid Oxide Fuel Cells, Jiang Liu, Xiao-Min Yan

Journal of Electrochemistry

Carbon is richly reserved in coal, biomasses, and many other nature resources. It is usually used as an energy source through oxygen oxidation reaction. The oxidation is generally realized through combustion which causes serious air pollution. Besides, the conversion efficiency of generating electricity through the combustion process is limited by Carnot efficiency. A direct carbon solid oxide fuel cell (DC-SOFC) is a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) directly operated with solid carbon as the fuel. It can convert the chemical energy of carbon into electricity with high efficiency. The concentration of produced CO2 from a DC-SOFC is so high …
