Application Of Evolutionary Algorithms For Optimization Of Operation Modes Of Regional Electric Power Systems, Isamiddin Khakimovich Siddikov, Oksana Vitalevna Porubay
Chemical Technology, Control and Management
The paper presents the possibilities of using evolutionary algorithms to solve the problem of optimizing the operation modes of electric power facilities in the presence of constraints in the form of inequalities and equalities. The limits of constraints have a variable character, depending on the generated and consumed energy. Existing methods used for the optimization of modes are based on general principles and approaches to optimization, which usually adapt to the specifics of the problem. In electric power facilities, optimization problems have some peculiarities, among which is the presence of multiple constraints applied to both independent and dependent variables. Many …

The Application Of Model Predictive Control On Paralleled Converters For Zero Sequence Current Suppression And Active Thermal Management, Justin Dobey
All Theses
In the field of power electronics, the control of rectifiers is a crucial area of study. Rectifiers are used to convert AC power into DC power, and are commonly used in a wide range of applications, including renewable energy systems, industrial automation, and consumer electronics. However, in medium and high-power systems when multiple rectifiers are connected in parallel to a DC bus, stability issues can arise, including voltage fluctuations, zero sequence circulating current, and thermal imbalance.
Achieving stable DC bus voltage is essential for maintaining the proper functioning of electronic devices, while suppressing zero sequence current is necessary for protecting …

Accurate Orientation Control Of Tendon Driven Continuum Robots That Exhibit Elasticity, Manu Srivastava
All Dissertations
This dissertation makes new contributions to the modeling and implementation of Tendon Driven Continuum Robots (TDCRs). Specifically, motivated by 3D printing of concrete using a continuum hose robot in construction applications, we focus on TDCRs featuring compliance in the robot backbone and actuating tendons, e.g. surgical robots/endoscopes/catheters with tendon actuation. We expand previous mechanics-based models to show how and why such compliance significantly restricts performance when traditional kinematics-based planning and control techniques are applied.
The main contribution of this work is a new Elasticity Compensation(EC) model that explains why the ad hoc approach of preloading/pretensioning the tendons compensates for compliance …

Improved Vehicle-Bridge Interaction Modeling And Automation Of Bridge System Identification Techniques, Omar Abuodeh
All Dissertations
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) recognizes the necessity for cost-effective and practical system identification (SI) techniques within structural health monitoring (SHM) frameworks for asset management applications. Indirect health monitoring (IHM), a promising SHM approach, utilizes accelerometer-equipped vehicles to measure bridge modal properties (e.g., natural frequencies, damping ratios, mode shapes) through bridge vibration data to assess the bridge's condition. However, engineers and researchers often encounter noise from road roughness, environmental factors, and vehicular components in collected vehicle signals. This noise contaminates the vehicle signal with spurious modes corresponding to stochastic frequencies, impacting damage monitoring assessments. Thus, an efficient and reliable SI …

Electrical and Computer Engineering ETDs
Stochastic flaw formation leading to poor print quality is a major obstacle to the utility of directed energy deposition (DED), a laser and metal powder-based additive manufacturing technology for construction and repair of custom metal parts. While melt pool temperature variability is known to be a major factor in flaw formation, control schemes to decrease flaw formation are limited by a lack of physics-based models that fully and accurately describe DED. In this work, a stochastic reachability analysis with a data-driven model based on thermal images of the melt pool was conducted to determine the likelihood of violating melt pool …

The method of simulation structural-complex continuous-discrete control systems is discussed. For simulation and calculation of dynamic processes in continuous-discrete systems topological interpolation method is proposed, based on application of hybrid methods of space of state variables and interpolation of signals. The essence of the method is that the dynamics of the investigated system, considered at the final interval, is broken down into subintervals, on each of which the processes are described by linear ordinary system differential equations. The computational efficiency of the proposed method was evaluated by comparison with standard methods such as the Runge-Kutta-Merson method. The use of this …

These circuits are characterized by a specific distribution structure of magnetic resistance parameters in long ferromagnetic cores and the magnetic capacitance between them. It is shown that in the existing sensor, the distribution of working magnetic flux along the length of the ferromagnetic cores has a nonlinear nature, resulting in a nonlinear relationship between the output signal in the form of electromotive force and the input linear displacement of the sensor. It has been established that by selecting the law of …
