"The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of lipid composition on the physical properties of liposomes. Eight different types of liposomes were prepared for this study. Liposomes consisting of phosphatidylcholine (PC) and cholesterol were prepared in three different compositions 80/20, 50/50 and 20/80 respectively. Similarly liposomes consisting of PC and negatively charged phosphatidylserine (PS) were also prepared in three different compositions 80/20, 50/50 and 20/80 respectively. "Carbon dioxide sequestration has been proposed as a way to reduce anthropogenic carbon dioxide emissions. Several characteristics are required in order for a geologic formation to be suitable for sequestration. "Nickel nanoparticles were synthesized by gamma-radiation and femtosecond laser ablation. Aqueous precursors were prepared by uniformly dispersing nickel chloride in a 2:1 ratio of water and isopropanol. Stabilizers employed were Sodium Dodecyl Sulfate (SDS) and Poly Vinyl Pyrrolidone (PVP). Gamma-ray radiolysis of aqueous nickel precursors was investigated as a reducing agent for nickel cations to form atomic seeds for nucleation on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs). 30-60kGy was the dosage used in increments of 10kGy, at a rate of 10kGy/hr. "Carbon dioxide (C0₂) sequestration has been extensively implemented and explored predominantly in depleted oil reservoirs and deep saline aquifers where the C0₂ is stored under supercritical conditions. A lesser explored option with great potential is based on injection into shallow reservoirs where the C0₂ may not always be in its denser supercritical state. The research evaluates the potential for injecting C0₂ into saline aquifers at depths of ~550-650 meters and formation temperatures of -22⁰C.

In my Ph.D research, a wet chemistry-based organic solution phase reduction method was developed, and was successfully applied in the preparation of a series of advanced electro-catalysts, including 0-dimensional (0-D) Pt, Pd, Au, and Pd-Ni nanoparticles (NPs), 1-D Pt-Fe nanowires (NWs) and 2-D Pd-Fe nanoleaves (NLs), with controlled size, shape, and morphology. Admicellar polymerization using sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) template to form ultrafilm polystyrene on commercial calcium carbonate (CaCO3 ) of various particle sizes was studied. Adsorption isotherms of SDS decrease after the critical micelle concentration (CMC) of SDS was observed. This is explained by the phase behavior of SDS with calcium ion. The solubility product constants (Ksp) for calcium dodecylsulfate (Ca(DS) 2) were calculated as 1.55x10?9M3 at 30°C and 8.58x10?9M3 at 50°C. At SDS concentrations above the CMC, precipitation of Ca(DS)2 was governed by the critical ratio of calcium ion concentration bound onto anionic micelles which was 0.22 at 30°C and 0.20 …

Heat convection from the uniformly heated walls of a straight channel in presence of a rotationally oscillating cylinder (ROC) is simulated at Re = 100. Heat transfer enhancement due to vortex shedding from the ROC is investigated. Systematic studies are performed to explore the rotation angle and frequency influences on heat transfer by varying the latter in range of the lock-in regime and the former from 0 to 2 π/3. Real–time reservoir management is developed to manage a shrinking labor force and rising demand on energy supply. This dissertation seeks good strategies for real–time reservoir management. First, two simulator–independent optimization algorithms are investigated: ensemble–based optimization (EnOpt) and bound optimization by quadratic approximation (BOBYQA). Multiscale regularization is applied to both to find appropriate frequencies for well control adjustment.
