There is a significant body of academic writing on long-entrenched traditional chamber repertoire for the saxophone, both in the form of creative outputs (saxophone repertoire and études) and traditional academic writing (practical methods, journal articles, and dissertations). In contrast, the aggregate research output existing on “contemporary-classical” music for the saxophone is comparatively small. Dyslexia affects 15 to 20% of the population according to the International Dyslexia Association. Multimodal media, such as smartphones and tablets, which are capable of presenting varied modes of information (for example, visual, aural, and kinetic), have been shown to aid learning in dyslexic children. Music has been identified as a useful multisensory tool to help educators improve literacy skills in children. This thesis explores compositional techniques in electronic music that depict and explore chronic migraine and the therapies that manage the condition. Migraines are typically described as a destructive, violent force or a hopeless ailment, but research shows that this perception is damaging for new patients learning to manage migraine. Furthermore, evidence suggests that better understanding of how pain works can be instrumental in reducing pain (a process called Therapeutic Neuroscience Education). “Beychella:” Beyoncé’S Homecoming To A Futuristic Queer Utopian, Jolie V. Brownell

sprinkle: an undergraduate journal of feminist and queer studies

Beyoncé’s 2018 Coachella performance and 2019 Homecoming film set the stage for a radical Black queer reimagining. Yet, how can Beyoncé—who is straight—be located within a queer critique? In this paper, I argue that through a radical and political expansion of queer, the creative deployment of dis/identification, and the unapologetic expression of the erotic, Beyoncé performs an embodiment of queer of color critique. These creative gestures within “Beychella” invite viewers into a queer futuristic utopian and provide new creative modes to politically inhabit, resist, and reimagine interlocking systems of oppression.

At electronic dance music events in the United States, artists and attendees tend to appropriate religious and spiritual sounds, images, and dress, especially from India but also from elsewhere, to varying degrees. This project explicates the effects of adopting religious symbology, ethos, and atmosphere in the music and culture of EDM, specifically in bass music culture. It argues that although individual participants may adopt aspects of religious traditions in ways they perceive as authentic, the potential for misappropriation still exists. In this essay, I will examine a couple of aspects of hardware modular synthesizers which, despite not being a “new” morphological form (most commercially sold synthesizers from the 1960s through the early 1970s were modular), experienced an extremely unlikely expansion of interest and activity in the mid-1990s. From Music To Animacy: Causal Reasoning Links Animate Agents With Musical Sounds, Minju Kim, Adena Schachner

Listening to music activates representations of movement and social agents. Why? We ask whether high-level causal reasoning about how music was generated can lead people to link musical sounds with animate agents. To test this, we asked whether people (N=60) make flexible inferences about whether an agent caused musical sounds, integrating information from the sounds’ timing and from the visual context in which it was produced. Using a 2x2 within-subject design, we found evidence of causal reasoning: In a context where producing a musical sequence would require self-propelled movement, people inferred that an agent had been present causing the sounds. …

This is a mixed-methods pre-experimental clinical effectiveness trial that examines the effectiveness of a self-administered one-directional mood vectoring playlist in the management of symptoms of anxiety. This study used the Spielberger State Trait Anxiety Inventory, as well as a self-report Likert-type scale where participants rated their anxiety symptom severity, to explore the impact of the playlist intervention. Qualitative interviews sought to identify themes common among participants who were daily high responders and those who were daily low responders to the intervention in order to determine for whom this intervention would be most or least effective.Management of anxiety symptoms is particularly …

วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องกรรมวิธีการสร้างโทนชาตรีของช่างสุวรรณ์ โพธิปิน มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาประวัติชีวิตของช่างสุวรรณ์ โพธิปินและกรรมวิธีการสร้างโทนชาตรี รวมไปถึงปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อคุณภาพเสียงโทนชาตรีของช่างสุวรรณ์ โพธิปิน ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ช่างสุวรรณ์ โพธิปิน เป็นช่างทำกลองชาวจังหวัดอ่างทองโดยกำเนิด ได้รับการถ่ายทอดวิชาช่างทำกลองมาจาก นายแสวง โพธิปิน ผู้เป็นบิดา ช่างสุวรรณ์ได้เริ่มสั่งสมประสบการณ์ตั้งแต่เยาว์วัย จนกระทั่งอายุได้ ๑๑ ปีจึงได้เริ่มเรียนวิชาช่างอย่างจริงจัง และได้พัฒนาคุณภาพการทำกลองมาอย่างสม่ำเสมอโดยมีข้อคำนึงในการประกอบอาชีพด้วยกัน ๓ ประการ คือ สวย ดัง ทน ซึ่งกรรมวิธีการสร้างโทนชาตรีของช่างสุวรรณ์นั้นมีทั้งหมด ๓๐ ขั้นตอนโดยจะแบ่งเป็นขั้นตอนสำหรับกลึงและคว้านหุ่น ๑๖ และขั้นตอนสำหรับขึ้นหน้าทั้งหมด ๑๔ ขั้นตอน ในทุกขั้นตอนเต็มไปด้วยรายละเอียด ตั้งแต่การคัดเลือกหนังวัวสดและไม้ประดู่ที่มีความชื้นในระดับที่พอดี ซึ่งต้องอาศัยความชำนาญและประสบการณ์ในการแก้ไขปัญหาเฉพาะหน้าในทุกขั้นตอนเช่นกัน อัตลักษณ์โทนชาตรีของช่างสุวรรณ์ที่เห็นได้อย่างชัดเจนคือลักษณะทางกายภาพมีขนาดเล็กกว่าหุ่นโทนชาตรีโบราณของคณะละครชาตรีบ้านเรืองนนท์ แต่ด้วยหนังหน้ากลองที่มีความบางที่พอดีและมีการเลือกใช้ได้อย่างเหมาะสม จึงทำให้เสียงที่ออกมานั้นเต็มไปด้วยคุณภาพและเหมาะแก่การนำไปใช้งานได้จริง

งานวิจัย เรื่อง กรรมวิธีการสร้างตะโพนของครูภูมิใจ รื่นเริง มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อศึกษามูลบทที่เกี่ยวข้องกับตะโพน ศึกษาประวัติชีวิตครูภูมิใจ รื่นเริงและศึกษากรรมวิธีการสร้างตะโพนของครูภูมิใจ รื่นเริง โดยใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ อันประกอบด้วย การศึกษาค้นคว้าข้อมูลที่เกี่ยวข้องกับงานวิจัย จากเอกสาร ตำรา บทความทางวิชาการ วิทยานิพนธ์และหนังสือที่เกี่ยวข้อง สัมภาษณ์ผู้ทรงคุณวุฒิด้านดุริยางค์ไทยและศิลปินผู้มีความรู้เกี่ยวกับตะโพน รวมทั้งทำการศึกษาอย่างมีส่วนร่วมในการสังเกตการสร้างตะโพนของครูภูมิใจ รื่นเริง รวมเป็นระยะเวลาทั้งสิ้น 15 เดือน ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ตะโพนคือเครื่องหนังที่ใช้บรรเลงอยู่ในวงปี่พาทย์ สันนิษฐานว่าได้รับอิทธิพลมาจากกลองโบราณของอินเดีย มีประวัติความเป็นมาอันยาวนานโดยปรากฏหลักฐานมาตั้งแต่สมัยสุโขทัย ตัวกลองขึงด้วยหนังสองหน้า ขนาดเส้นผ่านศูนย์กลางของหน้ามัดประมาณ 8 นิ้ว หน้ารุ่ย 9 นิ้ว ความยาว 19 นิ้ว ความสูง 21 นิ้ว ตะโพนเป็นเครื่องดนตรีที่นักดนตรีไทยต่างสักการะบูชา เนื่องจากเป็นเครื่องดนตรีที่เปรียบดังสัญลักษณ์แทนองค์พระปรคนธรรพ เทพสังคีตาจารย์แห่งดนตรี ในสมัยโบราณ นิยมนำไม้กุ่ม ไม้ขนุน ซึ่งถือเป็นไม้มงคลมาทำเป็นหุ่นตะโพน จากการศึกษาด้านประวัติชีวิต ทำให้ทราบว่าครูภูมิใจ รื่นเริงเป็นช่างทำระนาดและกลองไทยทุกชนิด ได้รับสืบทอดภูมิปัญญาช่างจากครูเสน่ห์ ภักตร์ผ่อง กรรมวิธีการสร้างตะโพนของครูภูมิใจ รื่นเริง ประกอบไปด้วย 6 ขั้นตอน ได้แก่ การเตรียมหุ่นตะโพน การเตรียมไส้ละมาน การตัดหนังเรียด การเตรียมหน้าตะโพน การแกะสลักเท้าตะโพนและการขึ้นตะโพน ลักษณะเฉพาะที่ปรากฏในกรรมวิธีการสร้างตะโพนของครูภูมิใจ คือ วิธีการร้อยหนังเรียด วิธีการถักไส้ละมาน สัดส่วนของหุ่นตะโพนและการสาวตะโพนด้วยการใช้หัวเข่าเป็นอวัยวะค้ำยันหุ่นกลอง

งานวิจัยเรื่องกรรมวิธีการผลิตซออู้ของครูอวรัช ชลวาสิน มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษามูลบทที่เกี่ยวข้องกับประวัติการสร้างซออู้ ศึกษาประวัติครูอวรัช ชลวาสิน ศึกษากรรมวิธีการผลิตซออู้และปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อคุณภาพเสียงซออู้ โดยใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า ครูอวรัช ชลวาสินได้ทดลองประดิษฐ์ซอด้วงคันแรกตั้งแต่อายุ 12 ปี หลังจากนั้นจึงเริ่มสั่งสมความรู้ด้านดนตรีไทย งานศิลปกรรม ความรู้ด้านวิศวกรรมตลอดมาและได้เปิดโรงงานผลิตเครื่องดนตรีไทยชื่อว่า โรงงานสายเอก จนกระทั่งประสบความสำเร็จ โดยเฉพาะซออู้ ไม้ที่ใช้ผลิตซออู้ของครูอวรัช มีทั้งหมด 9 ชนิด คือ ไม้ชิงชัน ไม้พยุง ไม้สาธร ไม้แก้ว ไม้ดำดง ไม้มะริด ไม้มะเกลือ ไม้พญางิ้วดำ และไม้ Snakewood การผลิตซออู้มีวัสดุอุปกรณ์ทั้งหมด 16 ประเภท กรรมวิธีการผลิตซออู้มี 8 ขั้นตอน ได้แก่ 1. การคัดเลือกกะลาและการแกะสลักลาย 2. การขึ้นหน้าซอ 3. การกลึงคันทวนลูกบิดและคันชัก 4. การเจาะคันทวนประกอบลูกบิด 5. การขึ้นหางม้า 6. การปรับบัวเข้ากะโหลก 7. การทำสี 8. การประกอบซอและปรับแต่งเสียง ลักษณะเฉพาะที่ปรากฏในการผลิตซออู้ของครูอวรัช คือ โครงสร้างยึดตามแบบกระสวนดุริยบรรณ หนังสำหรับขึ้นหน้าซออู้ การผูกลายแกะแบบทับซ้อน มุมมีดในการแกะที่ใช้พรางตาและก่อให้เกิดมิติ การคำนวณช่องลมในการผูกลาย การออกแบบลายเฉพาะของแต่ละคัน การเดินเส้นไม้พุดรอบขอบหนัง และการประยุกต์ใช้เครื่องมือบนพื้นฐานความรู้ทางด้านวิศวกรรมศาสตร์ ปัจจัยที่มีผลต่อคุณภาพเสียงซออู้มี 9 ปัจจัย ได้แก่ 1. การคัดเลือกขนาดกะโหลก 2. การออกแบบลายแกะและรูระบายเสียง 3. การพอกและฝนขอบปากกะโหลก 4. การใช้หนังธรรมชาติ 5. การปรับแต่งหมอนซอ 6. การเลือกสายซอ 7. การพันรัดอก 8. น้ำหนัก ขนาดและความตึงของคันชัก และ 9. ความรู้ด้านดนตรีไทย

งานวิจัยเรื่อง การถ่ายทอดดนตรีพื้นเมืองล้านนาของเจ้าสุนทร ณ เชียงใหม่ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาชีวประวัติและผลงาน การพัฒนา การถ่ายทอดและการสืบทอดดนตรีพื้นเมืองล้านนาของเจ้าสุนทร ณ เชียงใหม่ ผลการวิจัยพบว่า เจ้าสุนทร ณ เชียงใหม่ เกิดและเติบโตในตระกูลเจ้าผู้ครองนครเชียงใหม่ จึงได้เรียนดนตรีพื้นเมืองล้านนาและเรียนเครื่องสายไทยในคุ้มหลวงมาแต่เยาว์วัย เมื่อได้รับเชิญเป็นผู้เชี่ยวชาญด้านดนตรีพื้นเมืองล้านนา ของวิทยาลัยนาฏศิลปเชียงใหม่ จึงนำระเบียบวิธีการบรรเลงของวงดนตรีไทยมาใช้กับวงสะล้อ ซึง ทั้งการพัฒนารูปแบบการจัดวง การพัฒนารูปแบบการประสมวง พัฒนาขนาดและระดับเสียงของสะล้อและซึง ส่งผลให้วงสะล้อ ซึง มีแบบแผนการบรรเลงที่มีมาตรฐาน รวมทั้งได้บันทึกโน้ตเพลงพื้นเมืองล้านนา และนำลูกบิดกีตาร์มาใช้กับซึง ทำให้ระดับเสียงไม่ลดระหว่างบรรเลง เจ้าสุนทร ณ เชียงใหม่ ถ่ายทอดความรู้ดนตรีพื้นเมืองล้านนา ให้กับนักเรียนวิชาเอกดนตรีไทย วิทยาลัยนาฏศิลปเชียงใหม่และลูกศิษย์ในกลุ่มช่างสร้างเครื่องดนตรี การถ่ายทอดเริ่มจากการสาธิตให้ดูและการนอยเสียง แล้วจึงถ่ายทอดเพลงในกลุ่มเพลงพื้นฐาน กลุ่มเพลงชั้นกลางและกลุ่มเพลงชั้นสูงถ่ายทอดการบรรเลงรวมวง รวมถึงถ่ายทอดกลวิธีในการบรรเลงแบบดั้งเดิมของดนตรีพื้นเมืองล้านนาและนำกลวิธีพิเศษของดนตรีไทยมาใช้กับการบรรเลง แบบแผนการบรรเลงสะล้อและซึงของเจ้าสุนทร ณ เชียงใหม่ ยังคงสืบทอดมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน โดยมีสายการสืบทอดสำคัญ คือ ลูกศิษย์ในวิทยาลัยนาฏศิลปเชียงใหม่ เนื่องจากส่วนใหญ่ประกอบอาชีพครูดนตรีไทย ทั้งในวิทยาลัยนาฏศิลปและในโรงเรียนเขตภาคเหนือ

วิทยานิพนธ์นี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษามูลบทที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการแสดงหุ่นกระบอกและศึกษากลวิธีการขับร้องเพลงหุ่นกระบอกเรื่องพระอภัยมณีของครูกัญจนปกรณ์ แสดงหาญ โดยใช้ระเบียบวิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า พุทธศักราช 2436 หม่อมราชวงศ์เถาะ พยัคฆเสนาได้นำรูปแบบหุ่นครูเหน่งมาสร้างและตั้งเป็นคณะหุ่นคุณเถาะที่กรุงเทพมหานครและได้เกิดคณะหุ่นขึ้นอีกหลายคณะ อาทิ คณะหุ่นนายเปียก คณะหุ่นนายวิง เป็นต้น การแสดงหุ่นกระบอกนิยมแสดงโดยใช้วรรณคดีเรื่องพระอภัยมณี บรรจุด้วยเพลงหน้าพาทย์ เพลงเกร็ด และเพลงหุ่นกระบอก บรรเลงด้วยวงปี่พาทย์เครื่องห้าหรือเครื่องคู่มีซออู้ทำหน้าที่สีเพลงหุ่นกระบอก การขับร้องสำหรับการแสดงหุ่นกระบอกแบ่งออกเป็น 2 ประเภท ได้แก่ ขับร้องเพลงเกร็ดสองชั้น ชั้นเดียว และขับร้องเพลงหุ่นกระบอก ซึ่งลักษณะการขับร้องเพลงหุ่นกระบอกเป็นการร้องเคล้าไปกับทำนองซอโดยมีระดับเสียงทางกลางแหบ (มฟซXทดX) เป็นระดับเสียงหลัก ในการขับร้องมีทั้งหมด 4 รูปแบบ ได้แก่ การขับร้องร้องลงธรรมดาเพื่อเจรจาหรือรับด้วยเพลงดำเนินทำนองทั่วไป การขับร้องทำนองหุ่นตลก การขับร้องสำหรับรับด้วยเพลงเชิด รัว และเสมอ การขับร้องสำหรับรับด้วยเพลงโอด จากการศึกษาทั้ง 4 รูปแบบพบว่า มีการใช้กลวิธีขับร้องทั้งหมด 13 กลวิธี ได้แก่ การปั้นคำ การเน้นเสียงเน้นคำ การเล่นเสียง การเอื้อนสามเสียง การโปรย หางเสียง การสะบัดเสียง การกระทบ การช้อนเสียง การผันเสียง การครั่นเสียง การโยกเสียง และการลักจังหวะ

งานวิจัยเรื่องนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษามูลบทที่เกี่ยวข้องและกรรมวิธีการสร้างกลองทัด ใช้วิธีการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ จากการศึกษาพบว่าเครื่องหนังไทยมีที่มาตั้งแต่ก่อนสมัยอาณาจักรสุโขทัย พบตั้งแต่พุทธศักราช 310 - 343 และมีวิวัฒนาการล่าสุดในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 1 กลองทัดเป็นเครื่องกำกับจังหวะที่บรรเลงคู่กับตะโพนไทย ปรากฏบทบาทอยู่ในการประกอบพิธีกรรม การแสดงโขนละคร และการให้สัญลักษณ์บอกเวลาแก่พระสงฆ์ ช่างสนั่น บัวคลี่ เป็นช่างผู้มีความสามารถในการสร้างเครื่องหนังไทย อาศัยอยู่จังหวัดอ่างทอง ศึกษาจากการสั่งสมประสบการณ์จนสามารถสร้างเครื่องหนังได้ดี ได้รับการยอมรับจากหน่วยงานต่าง ๆ โดยกรรมวิธีการสร้างที่ส่งผลให้ลักษณะทางกายภาพมีหุ่นกลองที่สวยงามได้ลักษณะหุ่นที่เรียกว่าทรงมะนาวตัด คือ ขั้นตอนการกลึงหุ่น และกรรมวิธีการสร้างที่ส่งผลให้คุณภาพเสียงกลองทัดทุ้มต่ำ ดังกังวาน มีความกลมกลืนใกล้เคียงเสียงในอุดมคติของนักดนตรีเครื่องหนัง คือขั้นตอนการทำปากนกแก้ว ขั้นตอนการไสหนังเพื่อแต่งหนัง และขั้นตอนการนวดหนัง

วิทยานิพนธ์เรื่องพิธีกรรมและความเชื่อในการแสดงรำสวดของคณะอรชุน ลูกสุนทรภู่ จังหวัดระยอง มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษามูลบทที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการแสดงรำสวดและศึกษาพิธีกรรมและความเชื่อการแสดงรำสวดคณะอรชุน ลูกสุนทรภู่ ผลการศึกษาพบว่า หัวหน้าคณะอรชุน ลูกสุนทรภู่ คือ ครูทรงศักดิ์ บรรจงกิจ คณะรําสวดนี้ได้รับว่าจ้างไปแสดงในงานสวดหน้าศพและงานแสดงในวาระอื่น ๆ บทสวดเป็นเรื่องราวในวรรณคดีเป็นส่วนใหญ่ ในด้านดนตรีพบว่าเพลงที่นำมาใช้มีความคล้ายคลึงกับทำนองเพลงไทยและเพลงลูกทุ่งในปัจจุบัน การแสดงมีเครื่องดนตรีประกอบจังหวะ 4 อย่าง คือ ตะโพน กลองบองโก้ ฉิ่งและกรับ พิธีกรรมที่ปรากฏรวมถึงบทร้องรําสวดสะท้อนความเชื่อทางพุทธศาสนาและสิ่งเหนือธรรมชาติ การสวดสั่งเปรตเป็นพิธีที่สำคัญของการแสดงรําสวดในงานศพ โดยเชื่อว่าจะช่วยชี้นำให้วิญญาณผู้ตายได้ไปสู่ภพภูมิที่ดี และเป็นกุศโลบายให้กับคนที่มีชีวิตอยู่ได้รู้จักบาปบุญคุณโทษ การไหว้ครูประจำปีของคณะ ฯ สะท้อนความเชื่อด้านความกตัญญูรู้คุณ เมื่อได้มาเข้าพิธีไหว้ครู จะทำให้เกิดสิริมงคลกับตนเอง มีการใช้เครื่องบูชาและเครื่องสังเวยในพิธีกรรมสะท้อนความเชื่อในเรื่องสิ่งเหนือธรรมชาติ การถวายสิ่งของที่มีความหมายดีจะนํามาซึ่งความเป็นสิริมงคลและการอยู่รอดปลอดภัย ขนบของพิธีกรรมและความเชื่อของคณะรําสวดอรชุน ลูกสุนทรภู่ยังคงได้รับการสืบทอดและปฏิบัติต่อกันมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน
