Bookbinding & Conservation: A Sixty-Year Odyssey Of Art And Craft By Don Etherington, Peter D. Verheyen
Librarian Publications
For those involved with bookbinding, book conservation, or with the Guild of Book Workers, Don Etherington needs no introduction – he has served as a teacher, mentor, and friend. Now, with Bookbinding & Conservation: A Sixty-year Odyssey of Art and Craft we can read about how he came to enter this field, was influenced by his teachers and mentors, and how he helped shape the world of bookbinding and conservation. "Bookbinding & Conservation: A Sixty-year Odyssey of Art and Craft" contains a forward by Bernard Middleton, another leader in the field, and one who needs little introduction himself. It is …

This paper explores the influences, ideas and motivations behind my MFA thesis exhibition. It primarily focuses on how I developed my work for the show in connection to my previous work as well as work created by other artists who explored the impacts of new media in the last decade. With the advancement of social media, digital technologies no longer have their infamous coldness. Our perceptions and the metaphors in language are all reflected onto the machines we create while in return they also shape and redefine our lives. It becomes increasingly difficult to talk about dialectics such as machine-human, …

Stained Glass Windows Of Trinity Cathedral, Cleveland, Ohio, Produced By Wilbur H. Burnham Studios, Michael J. Tevesz
Cleveland Memory
Trinity Episcopal Cathedral has over forty large stained glass windows that range in age from the 15 to the 20th Century. The medieval windows were produced in England and Germany, while the more contemporary windows were produced by such prominent studios as those directed by Willet, Connick, Tiffany, Heaton, Young, and Burnham. The more contemporary windows are of considerable artistic and historical interest, but there is very little information available about them. This monograph specifically focuses on the windows of Trinity Cathedral produced by the Wilbur H. Burnham Studios. The Burnham Studios windows are the most accessible windows within the …

Flexible, Versatile, Curious, Experienced, Informed, Explorative. These things, and many others, describe an effective, efficient and skilled designer. I try to be all of them. My design studies have been focused in three main areas: exploration, education and communication. The creative process is not a singular process, but rather a conglomeration of many varied processes. Some processes are not applicable to every design problem, but some are.

My goal is to create projects that are different, fresh, unique, and bale to stand alone when compared to my other work. This is an important ability for me to possess since it shows my extensive knowledge of design and my willingness to work hard at creating exceptional ideas.

- CAPTIONS for CHIMERICAL MOSAIC : SELF TEST KIT IN D# MINOR (This was never meant.) Return address: landscape of raindrops or holes. Enclosed, to be opened by recipient only: (1) a picture held within a picture; (2) maplike divination; (3) a specimen of missing twin; (4) capsules of pure time; (5) invisible tears. …Perhaps you will wonder if these contents are alive or simply uncanny. …Perhaps you will seek in vain a symmetry that no longer exists. Let its absence equal noon , unreal gravities and unspeakable thirsts. (Do not estimate what she knows.) A mirror is also an exit. …
