This paper brings together two distinct and seemingly irreconcilable threads: first, the place of interactive narratives and games within the broader context of documentary media; and second, the value of counterfactual narrative as a documentary form. I will weave these two threads using my own counterfactual documentary game as the guide. As a graphic designer, I wanted to find the root problem of this issue and work towards a solution. Through my research and questioning, I concluded that this problem begins with men’s thoughts on hierarchy, language, and behavior, and supported by a prevalence of toxic masculinity in men’s culture.

I make paintings, sculptures, and installations that explore the nature of consumption and commodity. I am interested in how it has become the center of modern culture, and how we often overindulge. My paintings explore the fetishization of "the good old days" and the limbic drive to recreate past pleasures- often remembered more blissfully than they actually were. People want to follow what feels good, and are often found engaging in detrimental activities, trying to recreate the “magic” of their first time doing so. The veins of the leaves were bustling roadways, complex interactions that occurred at such a distance from my own anthropocentric understanding, they may as well have inhabited their own universe.

Dwelling within the infinite wonder of these microcosms, I coined myself a nickname that I abode within intimately: Bug Chaser. Perhaps I had heard the term on the news, or caught one of the teachers use it in passing, but as far as I was concerned, the term was entirely of my own creation.

As a picture of childhood composed from the point of view of a young boy named Freddie, who suffers the effects of repeated and ongoing trauma, the experience of reading The Freddie Stories presents a number of interpretive challenges: its main character is often split and in various states of disassociation, the difference between dreaming and waking life is not always obvious, multiple monsters appear in different and changeable forms, and as Freddie experiences repeated difficulties with language and cognitive function, his traumatic past enfolds upon the time in which the story is set. For centuries our existence and our experience has been negated. In this text, I invite the reader/viewer to experience the importance of representation to black communities. The Collaborative Urban Resilience Banquet (The C.U.R.B.) is an interdisciplinary art project consisting of citizen science experiments, community events, and social media storytelling that collectively examine critical issues of environmental, social, and food-based justice as we face oncoming climate crisis. The project explores lessons learned about/with/from Brooklyn's feral edible plant and animal species, many of whom have long and complicated relationships with humanity. The transdisciplinary art work within Do you wanna go dancing? unpacks the experience and perception of my interpersonal relationships, as well as the role that touch and introspection has in my visual arts practice and everyday life.
