Turkish Journal of Botany

The genus Cyclotrichium, a member of the tribe Mentheae subtribe Menthinae (Lamiaceae, Nepetoideae), was analysed with respect to morphological revision, phylogenetic analysis, and cytogenetic properties. All species of the genus were investigated for morphological characters and ITS (internal transcribed spacers) of nrDNA sequence comparison (except C. hausknechtii for ITS). Six members of the genus were also analysed for chromosome numbers. The combined results strongly suggested that Cyclotrichium is a separate genus in Nepetoideae with distinct morphological, phylogenetic, and cytogenetic characteristics. For intrageneric phylogeny of Cyclotrichium, 3 groups were recognised: 1. C. niveum; 2. C. origanifolium; and 3. the remaining 6 …

Classification Of Some Plant Species According To Grime’S Strategies In A Quercus Cerris L. Var. Cerris Woodland In Samsun, Northern Turkey, Mahmut Kilinç, Nesli̇han Karavi̇n, Hamdi̇ Güray Kutbay

Turkish Journal of Botany

This study was carried out on 2 permanent plots of Quercus cerris L. var. cerris woodland in the Kurupelit region of Samsun, northern Turkey. Grime's CSR strategies were determined for 85 plant species from the 2 study plots (61 and 50 species from plot 1 and plot 2, respectively) according to the method that was applied. Most of the plant species in both plots had secondary and tertiary strategies, and this suggests that plants were exposed to more than one pressure factor. In both plots, CR (competitor-ruderal) was the most common strategy.

Yield Potential And Resource-Use Efficiency Of Maize Systems In The Western U.S. Corn Belt, Patricio Grassini 2010 University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Yield Potential And Resource-Use Efficiency Of Maize Systems In The Western U.S. Corn Belt, Patricio Grassini

Department of Agronomy and Horticulture: Dissertations, Theses, and Student Research

Maize demand for food, livestock feed, and biofuel is expected to increase substantially. The Western U.S. Corn Belt accounts for 23% of U.S. maize production, and irrigated maize accounts for 43 and 58% of maize land area and total production, respectively, in this region. The most sensitive parameters (yield potential [YP], water-limited yield potential [YP-W], yield gap between actual yield and YP, and resource-use efficiency) governing performance of maize systems in the region are lacking. A simulation model was used to quantify YP under irrigated and rainfed conditions based on weather data, soil properties, and crop management at 18 locations. …

Male Individuals In Cultivated Fritillaria Persica L. (Liliaceae): Real Androdioecy Or Gender Disphasy?, Elisa Mancuso, Lorenzo Peruzzi

Turkish Journal of Botany

In the last twenty years the growing number of studies about the reproductive biology in angiosperms has brought to light new cases of andromonoecy and androdioecy, the rarest sexual models among flowering plants. Female-sterile sexual systems, especially within order Liliales and family Liliaceae, often seem to occur in the particular form of size/age dependent sex allocation, known as "gender disphasy". The presence of male individuals of Fritillaria persica (Liliaceae) is here documented. Comparative morphological and functional sexual expression of this species, among males and hermaphrodites, was investigated by means of flowers counting, morphometric measurements of plants and pollen-grains, pollen viability …
