This document is a Fire and Life Safety Report on the Taylor Place Dormitory located in Phoenix, Arizona as part of the Arizona State University (ASU) downtown campus. The building was evaluated on a prescriptive basis based on the current City of Phoenix building codes and further evaluated on using performance based methods from the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) Handbook and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 101 Life Safety Code®.

A prescriptive and performance based analysis was performed on the Warren J Baker Center for Science on the California Polytechnic San Luis Obispo campus. The code based analysis included reviewing the building’s egress components, structural fire protection, fire sprinkler system, and fire alarm system. This included the requirements of the California Building Code, as well as applicable NFPA codes. This report analyzes the fire protection features of the Warren J. Baker Center for Science and Mathematics on the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo campus in San Luis Obispo, CA. The prescriptive analysis of the structural fire protection, egress, fire suppression, and fire alarm, detection, and communication systems shows that the building meets the requirements of current codes and standards. The performance based analysis includes simulating design fire scenarios in the atrium using computer modeling (CFAST, FDS) and the results of these models show that the atrium meets the tenability criterion for the calculated evacuation time of occupants.
