Analysis Of Scramento State University Union, Zachary Schuler Jun 2023

Analysis Of Scramento State University Union, Zachary Schuler

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

Sacramento State Union is a centrally located building with a large occupant load during the school year. This building is a 239,000-square-foot three-story structure built originally back in 1975. This original building was constructed using waffle slab construction. Additions in 1996 and 2016 were built using steel beam and girder construction to meet the total square footage we have today. This mixed-use occupancy is not only a congregation point, but many events are held in this building as well.

In this analysis of the building, fire life safety systems are reviewed and determined if they not only meet the minimum …

Fire Protection And Life Safety Analysis Of A University Conference Center, Amanda Beck Larkin Jun 2022

Fire Protection And Life Safety Analysis Of A University Conference Center, Amanda Beck Larkin

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This project report analyzes various aspects of fire protection and life safety design for a University Conference Center, for both prescriptive and performance-based designs. The University Conference Center is a ten-story, high-rise building comprised of various gathering spaces, ranging from small conference rooms to large assembly spaces with auditorium-style seating. The building has a large two-story podium with basement below, with a smaller floor plate, ten-story tower offset to one side.

In the prescriptive analysis, no deficiencies were noted in the water-based suppression or fire resistance analysis. The building construction type, height, area, number of stories, wall and structural ratings, …

B-91 Fire Protection Analysis, Evan Phillips Jun 2021

B-91 Fire Protection Analysis, Evan Phillips

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

B-91 is a multiuse building on a Department of Defense installation rented out to a defense contractor consisting of laboratory, office, storage, and utility spaces. To determine the adequacy of the building’s fire protection systems as determined by the state-adopted 2015 International Building Code, a prescriptive analysis was performed with specific areas of focus on the building construction and occupancy, emergency egress capacity, fire suppression systems, and fire alarm systems. The building is compliant with code requirements in its construction and the fire alarm systems are adequately designed to provide notice, but the egress from the building’s main conference room …

Military Maintenance Hangar, Eliot Jordan Jun 2020

Military Maintenance Hangar, Eliot Jordan

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This report describes the building code compliance of a military aircraft hangar. The facility is evaluated for both prescriptive code compliance and for a performance-based compliance via the use of design fires analyzed with computer programs Fire Dynamics Simulator (FDS) and occupant egress analyzed with Pathfinder software as well as hand calculations utilizing Excel.

The prescriptive code analysis is done based upon a combination of Unified Facilities Criteria, International Building Code, and NFPA 101 codes and standards. Prescriptive compliance was checked against the building non separated occupancies of S-1 and B. The building was evaluated for building construction type IIB. …

Building X- Fire Protection System And Life Safety Evaluation, Anthony W. Sublett Jun 2016

Building X- Fire Protection System And Life Safety Evaluation, Anthony W. Sublett

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

The fire protection and life safety systems for Building X were evaluated for compliance in accordance with applicable nuclear power plant non-power block regulatory requirements, NEIL, INPO, IBC, and NFPA design requirements, codes, and standards. Building X is a one-story building with two internal balconies with 10 occupants per balcony, which is made of non-combustible materials that also has a partial basement with concrete walls (is normally unoccupied), which houses potable water pumps and piping for the facility. Building X falls under the definition of mixed occupancy per the International Building Code (IBC) and the Life Safety Code (LSC). Since …

Orange Grove Library- Prescriptive And Performance-Based Fire And Life Safety Evaluation, David A. Boackle Jun 2016

Orange Grove Library- Prescriptive And Performance-Based Fire And Life Safety Evaluation, David A. Boackle

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

This report describes the analysis of the Orange Grove Library in Gulfport, Mississippi, using prescriptive and performance-based techniques to evaluate fire and life safety. The prescriptive analysis is broken down into four components: alarm, egress, structural and suppression. Prescriptive codes are written by consensus, such that adhering to these codes will produce a reasonable balance between cost, function and safety. The performance-based design analysis uses analytical tools to predict how this particular building would perform under specific fire conditions, chosen based on the actual building in place. Life safety is the primary goal of this analysis. Achievement of this goal …

Henderson Engineers Building- Fire Protection, Life Safety Code Compliance, And Key Issues Report, Alex Ataiyan Jun 2016

Henderson Engineers Building- Fire Protection, Life Safety Code Compliance, And Key Issues Report, Alex Ataiyan

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

A fire protection and life safety analysis of the Henderson Engineers, Inc. (HEI) building in Lenexa, KS (Kansas City) is performed. Both prescriptive and performance-based methods have been used to evaluate the building against the codes and standards of the 2012 International Building Code (IBC).

The following prescriptive fire protection and life safety systems were analyzed: Occupancy Classification, Building Construction Type, Fire Protection Features, Structural Fire Protection, Fire Barriers, Automatic Fire Sprinkler System, Fire Alarm System, and Means of Egress

During the prescriptive approach, the following deficiencies were identified: 1) As-builts indicate a horizontal assembly fire-resistance rating of only 1-hour, …

Monticello Office Building- Fire And Life Safety Analysis, Mark James Masciarelli Jun 2016

Monticello Office Building- Fire And Life Safety Analysis, Mark James Masciarelli

Fire Protection Engineering: Culminating Experience Project Reports

A Fire and Life Safety analysis was performed on the existing Monticello Office Building located in Delaware, USA. The Monticello Office Building is a mixed use building that contains office space to support a population of 700 people, dining facilities to accommodate approximately 400 people, and a conference area for up to 125 people. The building is composed of two major components; a five (5) story office wing and a one (1) and two (2) story amenities wing that mainly houses the food service, dining, kitchen, retail and conference areas. A prescriptive analysis of this building was performed to determine …
