This study analyzes the interactive relationship between S&T security and economic security, and puts forward some suggestions to accelerate the development of S&T security monitoring and early warning system in view of the risks and challenges to ensure S&T security in the process of realizing high-quality development.

Non-State Actors And International Crisis Outcomes, 1987-2017, Taylor Schubert

This study examines the way non-state actor involvement affects the outcome of international crises. This was tested by looking at a set of international crises from 1987 through 2017. We find that the involvement of a non-state actor in an international crisis is associated with a greater likelihood of the crisis terminating via agreement or unilateral act, and a reduced likelihood of a crisis fading away. Additionally, we find that non-state actors who engage in direct fighting as a part of the crisis are further associated with negotiated and unilaterally-imposed outcomes, but that non-state actors who control territory are less …

In contemporary military operations, some problems are so complex they do not give way to linear solutions but require problem management instead. Combining the fundamentals of Dao De Jing philosophy with the US military design process offers a new perspective to analyze complex security problems, devise management strategies, and plan military operations. Applying this new approach to the complex security environment in Syria allows for a nonlinear mapping of long-term goals and a new perspective on relationships between key actors, environmental factors that restrict changes in the security environment, and where planners should focus their attention.
