In January 2014, representatives from the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences and University Libraries at Washington University agreed to move the master's thesis submission process from a local, electronic form directly to the university's repository Open Scholarship, which is supported by Digital Commons. While the reasons for this change included streamlining the process for both students and administrators, making this decision ended up being the easiest part of the process, which took close to six months for repository staff to fully implement. This presentation describes the current state of research and practice into metrics for repositories including traditional metrics and newer alternative metrics, and some preliminary results of a research study assessing the usage and impact of a Digital Commons repository.

Since 2008 EIU has been digitizing ETDs and making them available via the library catalog, I-Share (the state of IL consortia catalog), and WorldCat. It was only after ETDs were included in the institutional repository (The Keep) that the majority of faculty became fully aware of how accessible these theses had become. This dawning realization led to important conversations with faculty and other stakeholders about concerns regarding publishing, grant approval, and patents. Executive Mba Students' Information Skills And Knowledge, Todd Quinn, Lora Leligdon

This study explores Executive MBA students information seeking skills and knowledge in academic and workplace environments in order to improve on library instruction. Our research consisted of a survey and 12 qualitative interviews, sampled from two University of New Mexico EMBA cohorts. The themes that emerged included: EMBA's specific skills and knowledge of their own industry's information, difficulty in finding new information, several barriers, and lack of transferability. By discussing adult learning theory and focusing on transferability, we can help students acknowledge and transfer their information skills and knowledge between academics and work.'

After sharing a sense of the problem being solved and the rationale for preservation-related staff involvement, this talk includes a brief history of UConn's institutional experience with the new data management context. Next, the focus shifts to a to-do list of some discussions and considerations that need to be happening at virtually every institution that receives federal grant funding for research. The University of New Hampshire Library and its partner, the UNH Earth Systems Research Center, have been awarded a grant in the amount of $474,156 from the Institute for Museum and Library Services, National Leadership Grants for Libraries Program, to build PLACE, the Position-based Location Archive Coordinate Explorer. Among project objectives is to provide a toolkit for other institutions to implement in their geospatial digital collections. Managers of institutional repositories are offered much advice, from national organizations (like SPARC) and promoters of movements like Open Access or products like Creative Commons licenses. This presentation is about how Nebraska's IR has succeeded despite not following the advice offered by experts, publishing consultants, and "thought leaders" in scholarly communications.

The advice generally offered includes: 1.Use open source software 2.Expect faculty to self-archive 3.Seek campus “mandate” or deposit policy 4.Promote author-rights addendum 5.Provide funds for gold OA fees 6.Participate in Open Access events 7.Promote Creative Commons licenses 8.Require peer review for original publishing and 9.Assign all possible identifiers.

Growing Ink: The Curious Case Of The Institutional Repository At Smu, Yeo, Pin Pin

InK, the institutional repository of the Singapore Management University (SMU) was officially launched in January 2011 with 7,000 metadata records for SMU research publications, only 600 of which was full text. The Library uses a variety of strategies to increase the number of full text papers and to raise awareness about Open Access amongst the faculty. SMU’s Open Access policy was approved by the University’s Research Council and promulgated by the Vice-Provost, Research to the community a year ago. The Library pulls the data from the University’s Research Publications System, an in-house platform, to capture faculty publications. This ensures that …
