And The Oscar Goes To... Tiktok, Dawson Bley
Senior Honors Theses
Companies have been forced to take note of the emerging social media app, TikTok, which has attracted more than a billion users to its platform and invited businesses into an uncharted market ready to be exploited. By seeking to understand and employ the unique features which have led to TikTok’s far-reaching success, many companies can similarly improve their position. In particular, traditional movie companies, which have recently suffered blows at the box office due to factors such as competition with online streaming, could benefit from an analysis of this tech to restore lost engagement and revenue. The Australian News Media And Climate Change: How Frames Impact The Response Of Individuals In An Anthropocentric Society, Laura Joelsson
Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection
News media plays an instrumental role in shaping opinions and perceptions on climate change due to it being such a wide-reaching institution. The discourses of news media are able to use frames to determine the discursive context in which a concept or issue is discussed by promoting a central theme or message. This study aims to use critical discourse analysis to determine how climate change is framed in news media, and how these frames depict the forms and scope of possible climate action. The study also analyzes if these forms of action are predominantly anthropocentric in nature. Critical discourse analysis …

The trustworthiness and inspirational value of an influencer, as well as their …

Framing Addiction: How Variations Of News Stories Affect Attitudes Toward Addicts, James A. Smith
LSU Master's Theses
Stigma toward drug addicts and alcoholics can act as a barrier to treatment and, ultimately, result in more lives lost. Over previous decades, journalists have largely framed addicts as problematic to society which contributes to public stigma. Prior research in social medicine has found that non-news portrayals of treated addicts can improve public attitudes. Similarly, studies in mass communication have found that different ways of framing news stories can elicit different attitudes from news consumers. The purpose of this study is to test the effects of thematic framing, episodic framing, problem framing, and solution framing on readers’ attitudes when journalists …

Consumer Purchase Intent In Opinion Leader Live Streaming, Jihong Huo
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The COVID-19 prompted the live-streaming industry to become popular, and live streaming by opinion leaders became a new way of shopping. In live-streaming by opinion leaders, the time from understanding the product to completing the purchase behavior is short; opinion leaders, in turn, use live-streaming to boost sales and personal exposure. Despite the popularity of opinion leaders' live consumption, there are still relatively few studies on it. Therefore, this paper will study what factors promote consumers' purchase intention during the live streaming of opinion leaders.Using the Stimulus-Organism-Response Model (SOR) as a theoretical framework, this paper uses a quantitative research approach …

Virtual became necessary during the pandemic. We saw parties, meetings, Thanksgiving, conferences, and everything else shift to virtual. We’ve been virtual-ed out, but the convenience remains. The challenge is meeting people where they are and keeping them informed and involved. INDOT has found the sweet spot of virtual through intentional usage. We’ll cover virtual involvement from a district level, how we use virtual town halls for important education, and how we’ve brought projects into living rooms with interactive websites.
