This research reports on data generated through an initial teacher certification program for secondary social studies teachers that introduced a specific and program-spanning focus on news media literacy. Growing out of the urgent need for pedagogies that address and promote critical engagement with the kinds of news media sources upon which civic decisions are made, our project follows teacher candidates from their initial certification coursework through the culminating student teaching semester. By examining the figures of the Catholic Monarchs -Isabel and Fernando- in the popular television show Isabel, this research demonstrates how the historical fiction genre tends to privilege the stories of exceptional women and the men surrounding them. Unlike other historical fiction shows where the emphasis is placed on the empowerment of a single female character, Isabel emphasizes the mutual empowerment and equitable dynamic between a woman and a man. In an era when gender roles and prejudice were particularly strict, Fernando and Isabel enter into marriage with diametrically opposed notions of gender roles. However, when they begin ruling and …

We are inundated by a constant feed of media that responds and adapts in real time to the impulses of our psyches and the dimensions of our devices. Beneath the surface, this stream of information is directed by hidden, automated controls and steered by political agendas. The transmission of information has evolved into a spiral of entropy, and the boundaries between author, content, platform, and receiver have blurred. This reductive space of responsive media is a catalyst for immense political and cultural change, causing us to question our notions of authority, truth, and reality.

Through the frames of identity, people often negotiate the dialectics of the ‘self’ with/against ‘the other’. The National Football League (NFL) is facing a reputation crisis—a serious problem for a powerhouse institution that airs its Super Bowl in 180 countries. Public and media scrutiny for its handling of domestic abuse cases and denial of concussions leading to Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) have left the NFL with a mega-crisis. Television ratings are down, player injuries are up, and fewer youth are participating in the sport. The focus of this study was to understand perceptions college students have regarding menstruation and if viewing a normalized media message may influence these perceptions. A treatment group of participants was randomly assigned to view an episode of the hit family sitcom Blackish that focused on menstruation and then answer survey questions. A control group of participants only answered the survey questions. A mixed methods analysis revealed three primary conclusions. First, these results contradict existing research in that the college students surveyed generally do not hold negative perceptions that may stigmatize menstruation. The purpose of this study is to explore how co-creational processes contribute to organizational legitimacy as a valuable outcome for organizations. 13 semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with digital communication professionals from a variety of organizations in the United States to better understand the use of social media platforms and perceptions of value from engaging with stakeholders in co-creation. Results showed that organizations engaged in co-creation of brand meaning via different methods such as referrals and feedback and that organizations reached different kinds of outcomes via these co-creational processes. งานวิจัยเรื่องนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการสร้างตัวละครที่มีลักษณะเฉพาะ และการเล่าเรื่อง ของละครโทรทัศน์ชุด Project S The Series ตอน Side by Side พี่น้องลูกขนไก่ และ SOS Skate ซึม ซ่าส์ ซึ่งแพร่ภาพผ่านทางช่อง GMM25 และมีตัวละครหลักในเรื่องเป็นผู้มีภาวะ ออทิสติกและผู้ป่วยโรคซึมเศร้า งานวิจัยชิ้นนี้ใช้วิธีวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลใช้วิธีวิเคราะห์เนื้อหาจากละคร สัมภาษณ์โดยตรงกับผู้กำกับ ผู้เขียนบทและแอคติ้งโค้ช รวมถึงข้อมูลบทสัมภาษณ์จากผู้กำกับและนักแสดง ผลการวิจัยพบว่า การเล่าเรื่องของละครทั้งสองเรื่องนั้นมีโครงสร้างการเล่าเรื่องใกล้เคียงกับละครโทรทัศน์ทั่วไป คือ มีการเล่าเรื่องชีวิตประจำวัน ปัญหาของตัวละคร และมีข้อมูลเรื่องอาการของโรคที่เป็น การรักษาจากแพทย์หรือเสริมสร้างพัฒนาการแทรกในเนื้อเรื่อง แต่จะเน้นหนักที่การก้าวข้ามผ่านอุปสรรคของตัวละคร โดยแกนหลักของเรื่องคือกีฬาที่เชื่อมโยงกับโรคที่ตัวละครเป็น การสร้างตัวละครที่มีลักษณะเฉพาะ 2 ลักษณะ ได้แก่ 1. การสร้างตัวละครจากบุคคลต้นแบบและการเก็บข้อมูล โดยพบว่าผู้กำกับได้นำบุคลิกหรือพฤติกรรมบางส่วนของบุคคลต้นแบบทางกีฬาและบุคคลต้นแบบทางลักษณะของโรคที่ตัวละครเป็น ผสมผสานกับการเก็บข้อมูลจากแพทย์ หนังสือ บทความ และการสัมภาษณ์ผู้ป่วยหรือบุคคลใกล้ชิด มาหลอมรวมเพื่อสร้างตัวละคร พี่ยิม และ บู ที่มีลักษณะเฉพาะขึ้นมา 2. การสร้างตัวละครที่เกิดจากการที่ผู้กำกับ ผู้เขียนบท แอคติ้งโค้ช และนักแสดงพัฒนาร่วมกัน ผู้กำกับและผู้เขียนบทได้เขียนบทละครและสร้างตัวละครก่อนเป็นอันดับแรก จากนั้นจึงปรึกษากับแอคติ้งโค้ชเพื่อหาวิธีที่เหมาะสมในการทำเวิร์คชอปให้นักแสดง และนักแสดงได้ศึกษาทำความเข้าใจกับตัวละคร แลกเปลี่ยนความคิดเห็นและออกแบบการแสดงและการเข้าถึงบทบาทตัวละครของตนเองให้สมบูรณ์ยิ่งขึ้น ละครโทรทัศน์ชุด Project S The Series ตอน Side by Side พี่น้องลูกขนไก่ และ SOS Skate ซึม ซ่าส์ จึงไม่ได้เป็นละครโทรทัศน์ที่ให้ความบันเทิงแก่ผู้ชมเท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นละครโทรทัศน์ที่ช่วยเสริมสร้างความรู้ความเข้าใจของคนในสังคมต่อผู้มีภาวะออทิสติกและผู้ป่วยโรคซึมเศร้าผ่านทางตัวละครทั้งสองอีกด้วย

งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาวิธีการพัฒนานักแสดงเพื่อสร้างอัตลักษณ์ตัวละครท้องถิ่นในละครโทรทัศน์ ทั้งนี้เพื่อให้เกิดกระบวนการและเทคนิคที่ใช้ในการพัฒนานักแสดงต่อไป งานวิจัยนี้เป็นงานวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ โดยศึกษาข้อมูลที่ได้จากการสัมภาษณ์เชิงลึก (In-Depth Interview) ผู้เชี่ยวชาญที่เกี่ยวข้องกับกระบวนการพัฒนานักแสดงจำนวน 12 คน และการสังเกตแบบมีส่วนร่วม (Participant Observation) ของผู้วิจัยเองโดยผู้วิจัยเข้าไปเป็นส่วนหนึ่งในการฝึกสอนนักแสดงพูดภาษาถิ่นใต้ในละครเรื่อง "สัมปทานหัวใจ" ผลการวิจัยพบว่า อัตลักษณ์ตัวละครท้องถิ่นที่ปรากฏในละครโทรทัศน์ ประกอบด้วยอัตลักษณ์ท้องถิ่นไว้ 5 ประเภท ที่ ได้แก่ (1) รูปร่าง หน้าตาของนักแสดง, (2) การแต่งกาย, (3) วิถีชีวิต ประเพณีและวัฒนธรรมท้องถิ่น, (4) ภาษาถิ่น และ (5) ศิลปะการแสดงท้องถิ่น โดยสามารถอธิบายได้เป็น 2 กลุ่ม ดังนี้ 1) อัตลักษณ์ตัวละครท้องถิ่นที่ถูกสร้างสรรค์จากทีมผู้ผลิตละครโทรทัศน์ ได้แก่ รูปร่าง หน้าตาของนักแสดง (จากการคัดเลือก), การแต่งกาย และวิถีชีวิต ประเพณี วัฒนธรรม 2) อัตลักษณ์ตัวละครท้องถิ่นที่ต้องฝึกฝนในการพัฒนานักแสดง ได้แก่ ภาษาถิ่น, ศิลปะการแสดงท้องถิ่น ซึ่งทั้ง 2 กลุ่มอัตลักษณ์ทำงานร่วมกันภายใต้กระบวนการทำงานของฝ่ายผลิตละครโทรทัศน์ และการเรียนรู้ของนักแสดง

This research implements both qualitative and quantitative methods. First in-depth interviews were arranged to collect data from 18 single women travelers. Questionnaires are developed as a tool for a survey research from these interviews. The survey was collected from 855 single women whose ages are between 25 to 45 years old and reside in Bangkok. HPV vaccination rates remain low among college aged adults that represent a catch-up population still eligible to receive the HPV vaccine. College students are often faced with the temptation of engaging in academic media multitasking and binge watching or completing their academic coursework in a timely and effective manner. A quantitative survey (N = 651) explored trait individual differences in self-control and academic delay of gratification and situational individual differences in enjoyment, reward, procrastination, regret, and guilt as predictors of academic media multitasking frequency, binge watching frequency, and binge watching duration. Stepwise regressions reveal that self-control is not a predictor of these media behaviors, while age and greater enjoyment were the only predictors of academic media multitasking and gender and greater …

This study evaluated characteristics of food blogs and food bloggers that potentially affect food choices. It was hypothesized that most food bloggers would not have a nutrition-related degree and food blog environments wouldn’t be supportive of health-conscious food choices. A cross-sectional study was conducted using a novel evaluation tool on 187 blogs, out of which 100 blogs met inclusion criteria. Because some blogs had multiple bloggers, two samples were investigated: 111 bloggers (n1 = 111) and 100 food blogs (n2 = 100). On April 20, 2010, explosions at the British Petroleum (BP) Macondo Project in the Gulf of Mexico initiated what would become the world's largest accidental release of oil into the ocean.
