Perkembangan tekonologi komunikasi telah membawa babak baru dalam kehidupan manusia. Salah satu hasil perkembangan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi yang mempunyai pengaruh signifikan dalam interaksi antar manusia adalah game online, dalam hal ini adalah Massively Multiplayer Online game (MMOG). Seperti halnya dalam komunikasi antar budaya yang terjadi dalam konteks bertatap muka, stereotipe sulit untuk dihindari. Kemampuan media untuk menampilkan sosok perempuan sebagai objek, menyebabkan eksploitasi fisik perempuan sebagai daya tarik tayangan. Studi ini berfokus pada komodifikasi kebertubuhan perempuan dalam wacana erotika dan pornografi pada tayangan televisi “Mata Lelaki”. Kemenarikan fisik perempuan serta penggunaan wacana tubuh perempuan dimanfaatkan oleh tayangan Mata Lelaki untuk membawa imajinasi khalayak ke tema yangmenjadi segmentasi program. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kualitatif dengan menggunakan paradigma kritis. Melalui analisis framing Gamson dan Modigliani, hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa kebertubuhan perempuan dalam tayangan televisi dianggap sebagai instrumen dalam mengakumulasi modal. Studi ini membahas pembingkaian bloggers Kompasiana terhadap banjir Jakarta pada tahun diselenggarakannya pemilu legislatif dan pemilu presiden, serta tipologi kritik media apa saja yang muncul dalam rangkaian posting mereka terkait tema tersebut. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dengan paradigma konstruktivis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa banjir Jakarta oleh bloggers Kompasiana dibingkai bukan hanya sebagai bencana, namun juga sebagai komoditas berita politik; tipologi kritik media yang muncul adalah Agenda Setting, Framing, dan Praktik Jurnalistik; dan peran bloggers sebagai pilar kelima baru mencapai tahap awal kemunculannya (emerging).

This article provides readers with a critical analysis of Mexico’s Parque EcoAlberto. Utilizing some of the theoretical work of interdisciplinary scholars who are interested in the study of “thanatourism,” the authors illustrate how this park, with its Caminata Nocturna (night hike), is much more than simply a “dark” tourist attraction that deters those who might travel North to the U.S. border. This study shows how the indigenous Hñähñú in Mexico have to confront a host of symbolic and material forces that are sometimes hidden in the patriotic metanarratives that swirl around this park.

This study examined the effectiveness of the implementation of a small-scale critical media literacy curriculum unit focused on gender stereotypes, especially as they pertain to occupations. The research question was whether students exposed to the critical media literacy (CML) curriculum were more likely than students not exposed to believe: that women experience discrimination in the workplace; that the media constructs stereotypical messages about women and men, especially regarding occupations; and that the media influences people’s thinking. In 2015 the journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates published a letter to his son, also about America and race. The literary device employed is no coincidence. Toni Morrison has anointed Coates as the successor to James Baldwin, and while that is a heavy burden for any 40 year old to bear, it is one that he just might manage to handle with grace.

Objective: A significant number of parents delay or refuse vaccinating their children. Incidental exposure to vaccine information (i.e., scanned information) may be an important contributor to anti-vaccine sentiment. This study examines the association between scanned information, trust in health information sources and vaccine safety concerns among African American, Mexican American, and non-Hispanic White women.

Methods: Women (N=761) in Los Angeles County were sampled via random digit dial and surveyed regarding use of and trust in health information resources and vaccine safety concerns.

This textual analysis explores the rhetoric of exclusion among homosexual men by analyzing DouchebagsofGrindr.com. The rhetoric of exclusion is used by some homosexual men in order to achieve hegemonic masculinity based on performance of gender, age, race, and physical characteristics to conquer stereotypes of femininity. Using the American sport media’s treatment of South African runner Caster Semenya, this article explores how in the course of defending Caster Semenya the American sport media presented a rigorous challenge to traditional conceptions of sex and gender. Yet these rhetorical efforts to deconstruct sex and gender binaries were undermined by the specific ways in which Semenya’s dual performances—athletic and gender—were visually depicted. Southern Appalachian attitudes about the religion of Islam and Muslim adherents are influenced largely by mass media's representations. With more than 80% of Appalachia’s population following Protestant Christianity, exposure to Islam in daily life is limited. Media outlets offer the greatest exposure to information about the religion and its adherents. This thesis examined the region's media representation of Islam and Muslims to determine what images are most often portrayed.
