This study investigated youth’s usage of new media technologies in and out of school as well as how it relates to learning and identity formation. Even though youth’s usage of new media in school is inferior compared to out of school, it does not mean that both contexts are disconnected. In fact, there is a possible relationship established between both contexts and such connection can prove to be significant for youth’s learning and identity formation. Social media brings opportunities for local governments to innovatively engage the public to enhance service delivery. Using the City of Austin, Texas as a backdrop, we assess the Austin Police Department’s utilization of social media in its communication efforts around community policing. This assessment develops a practical model to evaluate its community policing communication policies and practices by way of social media. The findings from this assessment provide several lessons and recommendations for practitioners to use in their efforts to integrate social media into public service delivery. One main purpose of information architecture and site navigation is to enhance the effectiveness of user interfaces (UIs) by supporting and enabling task completion, accessibility, and sustainability. This is of particular importance for science gateways given the complexity of information on portal sites.

We examined the accessibility of 50 randomly selected gateway websites in the Life Sciences category in the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) catalog, using both manual and automated methodologies. None of these sites produced an accessible website as per W3C, WCAG 2.1, and Section 508 standards. The most common accessibility success in these websites was URL structure, …
