Background: Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a common finding in patients with heart failure and is well-known for its deleterious effects on cardiac function and hemodynamics; however, there are gaps in knowledge regarding the impact of AF on patients with left ventricular assist devices (LVADs).

Methods: In this study, we searched PubMed/Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases through September 2021 to find articles that assessed the outcomes of AF in patients with LVADs.

Results: A total of 12 studies that underwent systematic review evaluated the outcomes of 7853 adult patients. The meta-analysis analyzed findings from a total of 1003 patients. Pooled …

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a devastating disease with dismal prognosis. The only curative option for patients is surgery, but over 80% of patients are not surgical candidates. Unfortunately, PDAC is resistant to the three remaining options. PDAC is characterized by a profoundly hypoxic and immunosuppressive stroma, which contributes to its therapeutic recalcitrance. Alpha-smooth muscle actin+ (αSMA+) cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are the most abundant stromal component, as well as mediators of stromal deposition. Typhi in many South Asian countries and is associated with high levels of antibiotic resistance. Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is primary hepatic malignancy with a high incidence of recurrence. The risk of recurrence directly correlates to patient’s overall prognosis. Management of advanced HCC involves a combination of surgical resection, locoregional therapy, and systemic treatment. Distant metastases are rare, and intraventricular cardiac metastases are even more infrequent. This brief review details an illustrative case of cardiac metastasis after curative treatment of primary HCC and then summarizes the literature on risk factors, treatment options, and patient prognosis in the setting of distant metastases from HCC. Finite element models can predict subject-specific chondrolabral stresses and help to elucidate the effect of under-coverage and incongruency of the hip joint in patients with dysplasia. However, complex stress patterns are difficult to generalize and evaluate statistically. With an established correspondence across shapes from statistical shape modeling (SSM), statistical parametric mapping (SPM) allows for evaluation of local variability while preserving model subject-specificity. Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is described as under-coverage of the femoral head by the acetabulum, resulting in mechanical instability. Though DDH is often diagnosed using plain film radiographs, these images cannot adequately capture 3D joint coverage. Herein, we applied a 3D statistical shape model (SSM) to the femur and hemi-pelvis of patients with DDH to objectively measure shape variation and evaluated whether SSM outputs could predict measurements of joint coverage.

Problem Ankyloglossia occurs when the tongue cannot extend past the gums or lips due to frenulum restriction. In breast feeding, proper movement of the tongue around the nipple is hindered causing difficulty for the infant to obtain a proper latch. This may result in slow weight gain (SWG), failure to thrive (FTT), and dehydration due to poor milk production. Background: Cutaneous metastasis is a rare phenomenon of thyroid carcinoma. Several mechanisms regarding cutaneous metastasis from internal malignancies have been proposed. Various treatment options are available, including surgical procedures, radioiodine therapy, thyroid hormone therapy, and other possible therapies. The prognosis of thyroid carcinoma with cutaneous manifestation is poor.
