Ben Bagdikian (1920-2016) graduated from Clark University in 1941 before becoming a journalist. He reported on prisons, poverty and civil rights and won the Pulitzer Prize. While Bagdikian was an editor at The Washington Post, Daniel Ellsberg gave him a top-secret history of the Vietnam War, The Pentagon Papers. Bagdikian gave a copy to a senator who read them into the Congressional Record. These papers include speeches and articles and research materials and manuscripts for his books, Media Monopoly, Double Vision, In the Midst of Plenty, Caged, and The Memoir of Lydia Bagdikian.

Among men living in the United States, prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death, and, excluding skin cancers, it is the cancer diagnosed most frequently. While incidence and mortality rates have been declining, the American Cancer Society estimated that there were 220,800 men diagnosed with prostate cancer and more than 27,500 prostate cancer deaths in 2015. Various patient-level and community-level factors have been shown to influence the differential patterns of diagnosis, care, and outcomes for men with prostate cancer. Direct Care Workforce: The Shift Towards Nonmedical Services, Christopher Kelly

Purpose:A shift in the direct care workforce from aides trained to provide medical services to those trained only to provide nonmedicalservices impacts both providers and consumers of long-term care. Between 2013 and 2014, data from the U.S. Census Bureau show that the number of nursing, psychiatric, and home health aides (who providemedical services) has declined while the number of personal and home care aides (who provide nonmedical services) has increased. This study explores the potential reasons for these trends by comparing these two groups of aides, using data from the 2013 and 2014 American Community Survey (ACS).

This study examines public preferences for two revenue options—fuel taxes and tolls—to finance transportation infrastructure in an urban area with the use of the results of a survey of residents of the Hampton Roads region of southeastern Virginia. Specifically, the study addresses two related research questions: (a) To what extent do residents support instituting tolls, increasing the fuel tax, or both? (b) What roles do self-interest and ideological beliefs play in support of increasing the fuel tax, imposing tolls, or doing both? Chapter 1 raises the research question guiding this study. Do relationships that board members of nonprofits have to officials in other agencies affect the likelihood of acquiring grants? The objective of this study was to examine the role that relationship ties played in the nonprofit sector’s ability to receive grants.

Chapter 2 ties the research agenda to existing research. Nonprofit organizational and financial behavior was explained in terms of resource dependence. Since nonprofit organizations face uncertainty in resource allocation, the behavior of the organization and the board members change in reaction to uncertainty. The report documents how municipal officials are managing conflicts and the impact of current approaches to dealing with destructive public conflict. Notes Regarding Nebraska Population Change From The Tuesday December 22, 2015 U.S. Census Bureau Release Of State Population Estimates As Of July 1, 2015, David J. Drozd

The Census Bureau estimates the population of Nebraska as of July 1, 2015 to be 1,896,190, so the state nearly hit the 1.9 million mark (and it does so with rounding). This is an increase of 13,210 from the July 1, 2014 estimate, or an increase of 0.70 percent. Nebraska’s most current annual growth is very similar to gains seen in the past several years – for example, the increase in the prior year from 2013-14 was 13,680 persons or 0.73 percent. Nebraska has now gained population for 28 straight years, with the last annual population loss occurring in 1987, …

Past Publications

On December 5, 2015, the U.S. Census Bureau released five‐year American Community Survey (ACS) estimates for the combined years of 2009 through 2013, making available social, economic, housing and demographic statistics for Nebraska’s counties. Also available are estimates for every community and legislative district in Nebraska and the nation.

The data are based on a rolling national sample survey mailed to about 3 million addresses each year, resulting in nearly 2 million final interviews each year from 2010 through 2014. By pooling several years of survey responses, the ACS can generate detailed statistical portraits of smaller geographies such as counties. …

This final report documents the major findings of the evaluation of the Methamphetamine and Suicide Prevention Initiative (MSPI Year-6), also referred to locally as the Soaring Over Methamphetamine and Suicide Program (SOMS), funded by the Indian Health Service (IHS), Division of Behavioral Health. The University of Nebraska at Omaha, Consortium for Organizational Research and Evaluation (CORE) contracted with the Nebraska Urban Indian Health Coalition (NUIHC) to provide technical assistance in completing this evaluation and the report.
