In 1994, Stewart Brand introduced the concept that buildings “learn” or adapt to their changing uses and circumstances over time through addressing maintenance, fixing mistakes, and adding enhancements. This article builds on Brand’s work by applying the concepts to one academic research library that has experienced additions and renovations based on changing assumptions through time of what the build-ing should provide and support. These changes were possible because the building was designed with an open structure that supports change and thus has allowed it to learn and adapt in a financially and envi-ronmentally sustainable manner. This poster highlights the Leatherby Libraries’ leadership in advancing AI literacy through creative, inclusive, and interdisciplinary approaches. As part of Chapman University’s “Year of AI,” the library launched initiatives such as Beyond the Lens and AI: The Next Chapter, blending art, ethics, and education to inspire campus-wide engagement. Through collaboration with IS&T, Town & Gown, and academic departments, the library positioned itself as a hub for ethical dialogue and innovation. The poster shares replicable models for how libraries can foster AI awareness through community partnerships, exhibitions, and experiential learning.

An eight-step process is detailed, including defining objectives, identifying target audiences, collecting and visualizing data, and publishing dashboards using accessible tools like Google Workspace. Over 30 school librarians across the U.S. and Canada and who had been nominated by their peers for their excellence were interviewed as a part of the AliveLibrary Project at San Jose State University. The major question was “What are the major characteristics of world class school librarians.” Each was read and rated by three researchers, and in several rounds resulted in eight major characteristics that seem to undergird high impact on teaching and learning across a wide spectrum of locations, affluence, diversity, and communities.

This book chapter investigates how academic librarians at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) define and contribute to student success, offering a perspective often underrepresented in library and information science literature. Drawing on a national survey of HBCU librarians, the authors explore how these professionals interpret student success both institutionally and personally, revealing tensions between traditional metrics—such as retention and graduation rates—and more holistic, empowerment-based frameworks. Ai Literacy For Instructors Certificate Teaching Materials, Justine Martin

These documents contain teaching materials for a four week AI literacy certificate program for instructors. The items include a syllabus, four after class worksheet assignments, and four PowerPoint presentations to guide synchronous Zoom sessions. These materials will help instructors build foundational knowledge and practical skills in the use and evaluation of generative AI (artificial intelligence). Facilitators will be able to explain how generative AI works, promote the applied use of AI chatbots for teaching purposes, and provide discussion and reflection on the ethical ramifications of AI use in higher education classrooms.

This study investigated the lived experiences of individuals living with HIV (PLWH) in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area of Texas during the COVID-19 pandemic, using an Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) framework. The research examined the intersection of health, social dynamics, and psychological resilience among PLWH, who faced compounded vulnerabilities due to systemic inequities and the dual public health crises of HIV and COVID-19. Through semi-structured interviews with ten participants from diverse backgrounds, the study captured the profound impacts of disrupted healthcare systems, heightened stigma, and social isolation on this marginalized population. Blockchain technology (BT) has the potential to enhance security and robustness of transactions through a distributed ledger bookkeeping process. This study employs technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework and threat-rigidity theory (TRT) to examine whether perceived disruption caused by COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted the adoption of BT, and inclination to adopt BT in the US. The COVID-19 pandemic provided a unique backdrop, as it affected businesses across all industries, sizes, and geographies. Results show a non-significant effect of perceived pandemic disruption on the current stage of BT adoption and intention to adopt BT. This chapter situates the emerging scholarly conversation around AI literacy within the established Association for College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education. We apply three frames in particular: 1) Authority Is Constructed and Contextual, 2) Information Creation as a Process, and 3) Research as Inquiry, considering competencies relevant to students encountering generative AI applications in educational contexts and addressing ways that both students and instructors may seek to engage productively with such tools.

Verifying scientific claims is challenging for the general public because most people lack domain knowledge. Manual verification by subject domain experts is accurate, but it is obviously not scalable to meet the rising number of scientific claims on the Web. Whether the emerging large language models and large reasoning models can be used for scientific claim verification, and how their performances compare to humans, are still research questions. We explicate a mapping of digital documents through computer machinery as an analog frame for Research and Design in neighborhood environmental literacy, within an applied interdisciplinary ecosystem theory.
