This talk presents a brief, collaborative autoethnography of a health science library downsizing due to budgetary constraints. Prior to Fall 2024, the library consisted of five librarians, with one liaison to each school on the Health Sciences Campus. After staff downsizing, a functional model was instituted with two librarians serving students, faculty, and research. One librarian focuses on support of the research enterprise, while the other focuses on student success, completing the majority of health sciences instruction. In 2015, Jefferson Health completed the process of merging with Abington Hospital. In 2021, Jefferson Health completed the process of merging with Einstein Philadelphia Hospital. Graduate Medical Education (GME) leadership at both hospitals, in conjunction with the Thomas Jefferson University Libraries' leadership, identified a need for a clinical librarian to provide library support and services to their faculty, residents, fellows, and staff, building on a model introduced in 2019.¹ Library support is essential to fulfilling the scholarly output requirements of ACGME accreditation.² This was a new position created to help integrate both hospital networks into Jefferson Health …

Ripe For Harvest: Data Harvesting And The Need For E-Lending Privacy Legislation, George M. Farris

Digital lending has revolutionized libraries, adding a trove of available titles and increased accessibility and convenience to patrons. However, handling of patron privacy when utilizing e-lending services is an area that has not received much attention. This paper examines reasons why libraries and patrons alike should be concerned about privacy and the harvest of data when engaging in e-lending through a non-library entity. Examples of mishandling of patron data are discussed in this paper. Recommendations for legislative and non-legislative actions that libraries can take to uphold the American Library Associa-tion core values of intellectual freedom and privacy are also discussed. …

Redesigning Libguides: How To Improve Experience For Users And Staff, Chandler D. Smith

Objective: To create a template for LSUHSC-NO’s LibGuides to give them a unified look and feel and make navigation of the LibGuides easier.

Methods: Using LibGuides template editor, changed the navigation from “tabbed” to “side nav” and created a style guide for other librarians to base their LibGuides on and have a centralized place to look for resources and other help on building a LibGuide. Assessed relevance of individual guides, edited the tags list to get rid of unnecessary tags. Added Alt Text to images to increase accessibility of guides.

This paper examined the level of leadership and job performance of library personnel in University of Abuja, Nigeria. Survey research methodology was used with a total sample size of 202 library personnel in University of Abuja library using simple random sampling techniques. Data was collected mainly through questionnaire and analyzed using frequency distribution and descriptive statistics. The result revealed that the leadership of the University of Abuja library consulted his staff in taking decision at the same time a team player, friendly and provided mentorship to his subordinate. The information cycle is used to inform students about how and why topics are covered in different publications. Although extensive research has looked at first-generation college students’ experiences, very little has examined the role of the library. This article reports the results of an asset-based exploratory study understanding the experiences of first-generation college students at three universities. Key findings of this study focus on themes of self-advocacy, sense of belonging, library customization, and integration of the library with the larger campus. This article discusses these key themes in the context of improving library services and spaces, ultimately providing more inclusive resources for all student groups. Implications and recommendations for professional practice are discussed.

This poster outlines CSU, San Bernardino’s (CSUSB) Library Ambassador initiative, a partnership between the Pfau Library and the Office of Undergraduate Studies’ Student Mentoring Program that aims to connect students in first-year courses with peers knowledgeable about library resources and services. The poster includes the history of the program, which was piloted in 2016, and addresses some of the challenges and successes encountered along the way.
