Effects Of Library Workshop Attendance And Library Website Visit Frequency On Health Professions Students’ Libguides Awareness, John Carey, Ajatshatru Pathak, Sarah C. Johnson

This research article examines data from an in-person 2017 survey on LibGuides usage, perceptions, and awareness of health professions students seeking bachelor and graduate level degrees. Almost 45% (n=20, N=45) of participants who visited the library’s website at least once per week indicated awareness of library-created LibGuides. Nearly 90% (n=8, N=9) of health professions students who had not visited the library’s website were unaware of the guides. The statistical analysis shows significant associations between various variables (academic level, library workshop attendance, research guide type usage, research guide page usage) and library guide awareness. The Library Committee is a requirement of the RGH Medical/Dental Staff and is facilitated by Dr. Scott Schabel. After RGH and Unity merged, the Libraries formed one department and expanded access and services to all RRH sites. The Library committee, composed of staff from across the health system, provide feedback and share library news with their teams. The committee meets 2x/year via Zoom.

I used a Fulbright Scholar Award to work with librarians, information studies scholars, and policymakers in Finland to investigate what policies or policy tools were available to help balance the need between propagating accurate information, curbing dis/misinformation, and ensuring human rights of access to information. This policy assessment helped me understand how regulatory and ethical principles can mitigate the spread and propagation of harmful health information.

The Rowan-Virtua University School of Osteopathic Medicine opened a second campus in Sewell, New Jersey, to serve a planned increase of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) students and integrate them with clinical care at the new campus. In order to better serve the students and faculty, the new librarian researched how to best engage a cohort of 72 new PBL medical students, as well as 1^st and 2^nd year PBL students on the main campus as well.

2022 was a busy year for this online repository, with an additional 350+ works added, which include dissertations and theses and 2 additional peer-reviewed e-journals. Also, there are a number of exhibits available since November, with most materials from these exhibits contributed by The McGovern Historical Center.

Two latest additions to the exhibits are Houston’s Fight against Tuberculosis and Christmas Seals (1911-1980s) and Windows into McGovern Historical Center. Check it out!

Here, we present a protocol to isolate progenitor cells from mouse epididymal visceral adipose tissue and construct bulk RNA and assay for transposase-accessible chromatin with sequencing (ATAC-seq) libraries. We describe steps for adipose tissue collection, cell isolation, and cell staining and sorting. We then detail procedures for both ATAC-seq and RNA sequencing library construction. This protocol can also be applied to other tissues and cell types directly or with minor modifications.

Objective: The study purpose was to understand how early months of the COVID-19 pandemic altered interlibrary loan (ILL) and document delivery (DD) in North American health science libraries (HSLs), specifically the decision-making and workflow adjustments associated with accessing their own collections and obtaining content not available via ILL.

Methods: Researchers distributed an online 26-question survey through 24 health science library email lists from January 6-February 7, 2021. Respondents reported their library’s ILL and DD activities from March-August 2020, including ILL/DD usage and policies, collection access, decision-making, and workflow adjustments. Strauss Library at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus was part of the regional group of repositories called Mountain Scholar using DSpace when the lead for Mountain Scholar, Colorado State University (CSU), announced that they could no longer afford to support the Mountain Scholar instance. All the libraries currently part of Mountain Scholar had to decide whether to migrate to ContentDM with CSU or strike out on their own. Strauss Library considered our options, and with University of Colorado Boulder using Samvera, decided to pursue migrating to Samvera. The Center for Nursing History of Northeastern Pennsylvania (CNH) at Misericordia University documents the history of nursing and the many nursing schools in the Keystone State's Wyoming Valley. In 2015, the Center received a grant to digitize and host its photograph collection to establish a stable digital environment for this regionally significant collection. This presentation will share some challenges, successes, and lessons learned during the migration of over 500 digital objects from ArtStor Public Collections to the Library's institutional repository on Digital Commons.

While touted as an online hub for scholarly communications and open-access education materials, it also serves as the digital archives of the Historical Resources Center (HRC). The HRC's mission is to collect, preserve, and promote archival collections that document MD Anderson's 80-year legacy of fighting cancer. Launched in 2006, the eScholarship@UMassChan institutional repository has been an important digital platform at UMass Chan Medical School, hosting faculty research, student research, and unique original publications and scholarship. In June 2021, UMass Chan’s Lamar Soutter Library decided to migrate eScholarship@UMassChan from the bepress Digital Commons platform to two separate hosted platforms. Most content – over 25,000 items representing faculty and staff publications, theses and dissertations, conference proceedings, and departmental and project collections – moved to Open Repository, a DSpace repository platform hosted by Atmire. This presentation examines the process of building a conference collection on Digital Commons with a discussion on stakeholder collaboration, collection architecture, and promotion, and reciprocal benefit to both scholars and repository managers.

Conference collections enhance attendees' experiences by creating a live archive of conference materials, viewable both during and after the event. Collections provide meaningful metrics for interactions with conference materials, which exist as grey literature that may otherwise go unseen by wider audiences. In 2017 the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library partnered with The George Washington University School of Nursing to create a permanent digital archive for their Doctor of Nursing Practice project collection in our instance of Digital Commons. DNP projects are a unique type of content because they provide important research about nursing practices, but often go unpublished elsewhere. The GW DNP collection now contains over 120 items that have been downloaded over 95,000 times and therefore we were eager to explore additional avenues for disseminating this content beyond our IR and its subsequent indexing platforms.
