Dignity: A Journal of Analysis of Exploitation and Violence

As pornography became increasingly popular online, many unsuspecting consumers reported adverse effects. These included sexual dysfunctions, such as lack of response with real partners, delayed ejaculation, erectile difficulties, and sexual compulsivity. Some pornography consumers began congregating in online self-help portals (forums and websites) to assist one another in quitting or reducing problematic pornography use. The popularity of the self-help resources and their potential to dampen the profits of a lucrative industry resulted in disinformation campaigns run by individuals connected to the pornography industry. Instructional medical librarians are uniquely positioned in a context governed by multiple instructional frameworks emerging from librarianship and the professions with which they liaise. Yet very little literature exists on medical librarians’ use of curriculum mapping to align their instruction with these frameworks. This review illuminates the current state of curriculum mapping in medical librarianship.We searched five bibliographic databases for articles published between 2010 and August 2021 and centred on information literacy(IL)curriculum mapping within a health sciences university context. Digital Commons@TMC, an online repository sponsored by The TMC Library, experienced a busy year with 702 new articles, images, dissertations, and audio-visual materials submissions (255% increase from 2022), bringing the total count to 8,338, viewed monthly by 7,066 institutions and 210 countries (up 5.5% from 2022) around the world.

The Digital Commons@TMC also includes historical materials. The McGovern Historical Center recently digitized and shared online more than 50 archival films, videos, and sound recordings. Digitization was made possible by funding from the South Central Academic Medical Libraries Consortium.

Redesigning Libguides: How To Improve Experience For Users And Staff, Chandler D. Smith

Objective: To create a template for LSUHSC-NO’s LibGuides to give them a unified look and feel and make navigation of the LibGuides easier.

Methods: Using LibGuides template editor, changed the navigation from “tabbed” to “side nav” and created a style guide for other librarians to base their LibGuides on and have a centralized place to look for resources and other help on building a LibGuide. Assessed relevance of individual guides, edited the tags list to get rid of unnecessary tags. Added Alt Text to images to increase accessibility of guides.

Faculty strategically design their course plans to generate discussion and exploration among students, placing growth and evaluation as priorities throughout any given semester. Yet, when loneliness and isolation creep into classrooms, final outcomes may fall short of a well-developed syllabus. Notably, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy announced this spring that the country currently deals with loneliness and isolation at an epidemic level, leaving educators searching for more opportunities to offer social connectivity as they guide students toward academic success.

The John P. McGovern Collection of Texas Historical Medical Documents has been fully processed and digitized. This collection, donated by Dr. John P. McGovern, includes medical ledgers, bills, apothecary receipts, legal documents, colonization contracts, a book about the effects of climate and weather changes on disease and death, correspondence, legislative and government records, official government seals, Republic-era currency, and more! All historical documents in this collection have been digitized and can be viewed and accessed alongside the finding aid.

Previous investigations into trends in Library and Information Science (LIS) literature have revealed changes in the topics librarians publish on over time, with older studies highlighting classification and indexing, and information retrieval and more recent studies highlighting keywords such as internet, information technology, digital libraries, and again, information retrieval. No similar investigation has been conducted on current publication trends by health sciences librarians. This study analyzes the top themes on which health sciences librarians published from 2016 to 2020 by examining the frequency of keywords.
