This paper explores self-documentation as a social instrument for surviving misrecognition and constructing situated forms of care. Drawing from Foucault’s Lives of Infamous Men, it examines how lives become visible only when touched by power, through brief administrative inscriptions. Building on Documental Fixity (Sanches & Day, 2020), the argument shifts from the stabilizing power of documents to the anticipatory actions of those who know they are read. Rather than asking what a document is, I treat “document” as a modeling frame imposed upon things to manage indexicality. This physical interactive art piece of thesis research in progress aims to deepen comprehension of information behavior in clinical contexts, where the contemporary medical record, with its increasing digital properties such as open record access for patients, can be viewed as an entity that both listens and influences. Today’s healthcare rely on a basis of evidence-based medicine (EBM) and in modern healthcare there are demands for rational decision-making about new methods, technology and treatments. HTA (Health Technology Assessment) supports decision-making in healthcare and in this study we turn to documentary practices of hospital librarians in HTA, as well as how documentary practices shape and are shaped by the work and roles of hospital librarians. This presentation explores a three-phase project that involved switching from a shared server hosted in a state consortia to a hosted service with Innovative Interfaces, along with a long overdue upgrade to Sierra. Phase I and II were the most challenging and work intensive and involved the most planning by the NEOMED staff. These challenges also brought our problem areas within the consortia to light. Throughout phase I and II, we improved our communication, stressed the importance of autonomy at the hospitals, and encouraged the staff to work directly with their IT and vendors.
