Purpose: There is a bidirectional link between uncontrolled diabetes and untreated periodontal disease. Controlling periodontal infection plays an essential role in the overall management of diabetes. This study explored an interprofessional (IP) collaboration between Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (CDCES) and Dental Hygienists and the utility of a point of care Periodontal Screening Tool (PST) for CDCES to build confidence in informing their clients on periodontal disease risk factors and providing resources to seek dental care.

Purpose: To determine if interprofessional education (IPE) program with dental hygiene and occupational therapy students help determine roles and responsibilities in patients post-stroke.

Methods: A virtual 90-minute educational module was presented to occupational therapy and dental hygiene students, hosted over zoom with a 30-minute presentation followed by an open discussion over two case studies. A pretest was administered before the event and followed by an immediate posttest. Both tests included the Modified Readiness for Interprofessional Learning (mRIPLS) items that are on a 5-point Likert scale.

The mechanisms through which a persistent recognition of commensal bacteria by oral epithelial cells (OECs) mitigates an uncontrolled inflammatory response of the oral mucosa remain unknown. CCL20 secretion by OECs in response to pathogenic bacteria is regulated by S. gordonii (Sg)-induced miR-663a; nevertheless, the mechanisms involved in these Sg-modulated responses remain to be elucidated. This case report is of a 31-year-old female who presented with splinted and faulty metalloceramic prosthesis on maxillary anterior teeth, which was responsible for localised periodontal disease and poor aesthetics. At multiple sites the ceramic had chipped off and the prosthesis colour did not match with the adjacent healthy teeth. A multidisciplinary approach of endodontics, periodontics and prosthodontics was employed for this case. The treatment plan consisted of removing the faulty prosthesis, endodontic retreatment of inadequately root-treated teeth and endodontics in the other coronally prepared abutment teeth. Incorporating research education and training in residency curriculum increases the understanding of evidence-based decision-making among doctors in training. Evidence suggests that the addition of research is linearly associated with improvement in clinical competence, and encourages the residents to shape their career as clinical investigators. The current paper was planned to share the experience of adding research into the core curriculum of Operative Dentistry-Endodontics residency programme at a tertiary care university hospital, and to evaluate the outcome achieved with that change.

Materials and Methods: 20 patients with kennedy class III modification 1 edentulous areas were recruited for this study and divided into two groups; Control group received implants with conventional osteotomy preparation following standard drilling protocol (speed= 1200 rpm) with torque of 30N and sufficient saline irrigation, while Study group received implants with osteotomy preparation following a low speed drilling protocol (speed < 200 rpm) without irrigation and a torque of 50 N. Cone Beam CT was used to evaluate bone height and density around the implants at 3, 6 and 12 months after insertion. Implant primary stability was evaluated using Ostell by Resonance Frequency Analysis. Results The results showed no significant difference between bone height changes and densities in the control and study groups. Implants primary stability also showed no significant difference in ISQ values between both groups. Conclusion Biologic drilling is a promising implant drilling protocol with a potential to insert implants showing successful osseointegration and acceptable bone changes.
